how did you solve the problem of the bees swarming. did you wait until they had their fill and licked up all of that spill. wow, that was kind of an action/adventure clip.
@TamaraChing Well, if my wife saw all those bees, I'd be in big trouble. So I just took a hose and hosed down the bed of the truck and the bumper. Eventually the bees realised that there was no more food and stopped coming.
I don't have a hive yet. I'm interested in winter feeding though. Could I place a container of boiled & cooled sugar/honey water to feed? I would place it in an open shed, away from rain (if we ever get any again...)
@wekebu last year was my first year of Beekeeping I used a mixture of 3 parts sugar 1 part water and it worked so well. I think you need for a big Hive about 20 kg of sugar if you rob them well for small hive take the half. and place it IN your hive behind the bees or more than 100 m away if you have more than 1 hive. don't forget to give the bees a help with some cork bung^^
@wekebu No because in a range of 50-100m they do one dance (Rundtanz ?Rounddance?) It gives no Direction so it just sais "Hey girls there is food nearby go search for it" So they may rob other hives. Out of this range they do another dance with directions. Also if you want to feed a speffic hive it is better to feed them directly so you can controll better how much each hive has got. One may be slower or has less bees and so on.
@Findas88 I understand. Thanks for preventing me from causing a problem. I get lots of honey bees that visit my pond, but I've never been able to follow where they go.
Intresting but aren't you affraid of American foulbrood? Here in germany it is a pretty big deal. Just in Düsseldorf were round about 20 Beecollonies killed because of American foulbrood. Here you have to noify rhe Federal Vet or you can be charged with I think up to 25000 Euro. How is that in Amerika?
Back in the '60s, I broke a bottle of honey into the carpet in the back of my dad's Edsel. There's only one way to clean up that kind of mess. Open the doors and let the bees have it back.

@Findas88 Thanks. So if I don't have a hive, I shouldn't just place food out?
