I personally have worked with this man in another business and I must say he is a first class, intelligent, insightful business man and human being who made great contributions to help that company. It is too bad that so many seem to be biased toward him because of many years of UAL bowing to union demands and then blaming him when the economics of the business needed fixing. UAL was not formed to be a welfare agency.

I remember that summer of 2000 as a flight attendant. That was the absolute last of the good times I was having fun flying! Then 2001 right around the corner and the industry has never been the same

It looks like he is reading the information he is saying because his eyes are looking away from the camera, and are moving rapidly from side to side like as if you were reading. Chances are he was reading from a que card, but that dosen't mean he wasn't sincere. I know how much the public loves to hate CEOs and other executives but you can't discount those that truely care about the reputation and success of the companies they run.

I am not exactly sure why people are bad-mouthing Jerry Goodwin. I think United should have taken a good look at themselves prior to 9/11. For example, the pilot slow-down in the summer of 2001, the ESOP, high-salaries, etc. Goodwin predicted that UA would be bankrupt if costs were not brought to industry standards and he was right.
