The only way you can really know if something is true or not is by trying it out. See if it brings out the "fruits of the spirit" from your soul, in other words, if it makes you a good, loving person, go with it. But remember, the Urantia Book is very complicated and requires many years of study to understand it fully. It is about having a personal religion of experience rather than by just believing in the written word. You have to want a personal experience with God.

I can relate to your concern. When I discovered The Urantia Book I actually put it down for six years. When I finally picked it up again I wanted to disprove it. Instead I found that the more I read it and reconciled it with human knowledge - whether it was history, science, religious beliefs, etc, my love for God deepened and the quality of my relationship with others became much more genuine and compassionate. I don't know, but Sagan was a scientist. The Urantia Book integrates and harmonizes science, philosophy and religion. There are not many people who have the background to understand the book. As you can tell by much of the contents of the posts here, most people don't even bother to read the entire book before commenting. Some of them can't even write English very well or make any sense. The UB is not for this generation but for those in the future who will be better equipped to comprehend it.

One cannot explain in 500 characters the weirdness and cult-like behavior of those who have taken the Urantia book to heart. I am a spiritually minded person, but this is so hard to believe, even I had to laugh at the complete lack of sanity of the claims made by those who follow this book. I read the Urantia Book in 2004 and was much impressed with the orderly layout of hierarchical structures and the descriptions of historic personages being on a divine mission from another place in the cosmos. Highly recommended for the disciplined mind.
First of all, the Urantia Book is a spiritual book. Not a book of science nor a book of organized religion. But it says that the scientific method of experimenting and repeatability is important to discover some aspects of reality and to keep religion honest. But it says that the science it writes about to demonstrate this is from the time of writing, and will become obsolete. Because they don't want to give us unearned knowledge which may harm us. Read the whole book.
Comments by ryanpsorrell are reasonable. However one cannot base the accuracy of Urantia Book claims strictly on modern science, which is not infallible. Much of modern scientific knowledge will turn out to be inaccurate, as has happened many times previously. Also, many critics of The Urantia Book have not read it in its entirety. There are acknowledgements to the sources of the book, as well as a disclaimer stating that the science in it will become obsolete, not so with the spirituality.

Looking at the comments on this page, I want to thank those who saw the truths in the book. To those who do not, I'd just say read the book in its entirety, not just a few pages. It really requires reading it over and over again to truly understand it because there are seeming paradoxes and "mistakes" in it. To those who comment negatively here without having read the whole book and studied it for a while, how shallow is that?
The more times you read/listen to it, the deeper the truth goes. However the truth can only be taken as deep as one self alows themselves to be. Within the Urantia book itself it speaks of those that can't be very deep because they are too intrested in the outer world's illusions of light.
They used the science of the time it was written (the 30s). They refused to give us unearned scientific knowlege, like Star Trek's Prime Directive.Much of the science they would use would become obsolete but that the spiritual concepts would still be valid in ages to come. But the science in the Urantia Book is still mostly valid with only a few "errors" and as we all know, current science is not infallible either, and has "mistakes" that are often corrected with new discoveries.
The revelators don't want to just zap information into our brains. They want us to really understand how these things work. And so they do that by using concepts which we can understand, even if some of them get outdated. The danger in giving us information that is way ahead of us is that humans tend to abuse it and do bad things with it. So instead of giving us new technology, they're giving us spiritual information.
Also, the Urantia Book is not a science book. It uses science to explain spiritual reality, so the important thing isn't the scientific facts, they're just tools to help us understand spiritual concepts. The Urantia Book is very complicated and it takes many years of study and practice to really understand it. And it's not a religion, it's just a book. The only way to see if its real is to see if it helps your life. Unfortunately, most people are too narrow minded, stupid or lazy to get into it.

There are no "scientific errors" in the Urantia book. Only through a biased perspective of someone who wants to find a mistake so they project a meaning upon word use rather then taking the full work in context can any "mistakes" be found. It's very hard, and confusing, to read it like a book. You should keep in mind that the "urantia book" is actually a series of papers. Each paper, for the most part, is self standing. The first two parts of the book are less relivant to humans living on this planet now then the last two. So I strongly sudgest everyone starting starts reading at part 3.

Elimination does not mean killing off people. In the era that they are talking about, way in the future, people have self-government. Which means each individual decides what to do. If someones feels that their genes will not contribute to their society, (lets say they find a gene in themselves that is conducive to schizophrenia) they can decide if they want to procreate or not. These people would be so spiritually advanced, they would choose not to have kids if they decide its not a good thing.
Again, there's nothing killing anybody here. An example of what they're talking about is the fact that when we had the draft, those who were the most unfit could avoid war, while those who were the fittest got drafted and often killed, which detracted from our gene pool.

Dude, the Urantia book is not difficult. Its complex no denying that. But there is a big difference between applied memorization and comprehension. The concepts are quite simple to understand.

Anthropologists have known for the longest time that our ancestors were NOT "adam and eve" but rather australopithecus and the homo species (erectus, habilis, etc.). Does the Urantia book anywhere attempt to explain how, if Adam and Eve are "aliens", why we share about 98% of our dna with chimps and are very similar morphologically to apes?
The Urantia book does not go against those facts you cite understood by anthropologists, nor does the Urantia book state that we are full descendents of Adam and Eve. Notwithstanding the default of Adam and Eve depicted in the UB, the protein coding for the human cells would probably not differ so much from our animal forbears as one might think.
If yu doubt this I urge you to ponder the fact you just cited, that we share 98% of our DNA with chimps and compare that with the understanding of how VERY different we are from our close morphological cousins.

OMG! I remember watching this BS back in 97 when it was still on Fox! My father taped episodes (he had experienced a crippling medical emergency which partially paralized him which sent him off to find answers, I became introduced to Art Bell in the same way).
All this being said, God is perfect, he is all merciful and he loves all of his creations. As for the Satan thing. I believe from the Urantia book in a being called Satan but he is not a devil and there is no Hell that he rules. I think God created all humans to be far from perfect, he gave us free will, and it is our imperfection that allows us to commit sin and do evil things.
One difference between the Urantia book and lets say the bible, is that the information was provided from spiritual beings as opposed to humans. It would seem impossible for Jesus's message to stay accurate over so many different years, people, and languages. So to ME it makes sense that it would be written by someone other than humans. However, this is where the whole misconception of the "Alien Bible" derives from. People who don't read the book are quick to alter the facts.

The only way you can really know if something is true or not is by trying it out. See if it brings out the "fruits of the spirit" from your soul, in other words, if it makes you a good, loving person, go with it. But remember, the Urantia Book is very complicated and requires many years of study to understand it fully. It is about having a personal religion of experience rather than by just believing in the written word. You have to want a personal experience with God.

I can relate to your concern. When I discovered The Urantia Book I actually put it down for six years. When I finally picked it up again I wanted to disprove it. Instead I found that the more I read it and reconciled it with human knowledge - whether it was history, science, religious beliefs, etc, my love for God deepened and the quality of my relationship with others became much more genuine and compassionate. I don't know, but Sagan was a scientist. The Urantia Book integrates and harmonizes science, philosophy and religion. There are not many people who have the background to understand the book. As you can tell by much of the contents of the posts here, most people don't even bother to read the entire book before commenting. Some of them can't even write English very well or make any sense. The UB is not for this generation but for those in the future who will be better equipped to comprehend it.

One cannot explain in 500 characters the weirdness and cult-like behavior of those who have taken the Urantia book to heart. I am a spiritually minded person, but this is so hard to believe, even I had to laugh at the complete lack of sanity of the claims made by those who follow this book. I read the Urantia Book in 2004 and was much impressed with the orderly layout of hierarchical structures and the descriptions of historic personages being on a divine mission from another place in the cosmos. Highly recommended for the disciplined mind.

First of all, the Urantia Book is a spiritual book. Not a book of science nor a book of organized religion. But it says that the scientific method of experimenting and repeatability is important to discover some aspects of reality and to keep religion honest. But it says that the science it writes about to demonstrate this is from the time of writing, and will become obsolete. Because they don't want to give us unearned knowledge which may harm us. Read the whole book.

Comments by ryanpsorrell are reasonable. However one cannot base the accuracy of Urantia Book claims strictly on modern science, which is not infallible. Much of modern scientific knowledge will turn out to be inaccurate, as has happened many times previously. Also, many critics of The Urantia Book have not read it in its entirety. There are acknowledgements to the sources of the book, as well as a disclaimer stating that the science in it will become obsolete, not so with the spirituality.

They used the science of the time it was written (the 30s). They refused to give us unearned scientific knowlege, like Star Trek's Prime Directive.Much of the science they would use would become obsolete but that the spiritual concepts would still be valid in ages to come. But the science in the Urantia Book is still mostly valid with only a few "errors" and as we all know, current science is not infallible either, and has "mistakes" that are often corrected with new discoveries.

The revelators don't want to just zap information into our brains. They want us to really understand how these things work. And so they do that by using concepts which we can understand, even if some of them get outdated. The danger in giving us information that is way ahead of us is that humans tend to abuse it and do bad things with it. So instead of giving us new technology, they're giving us spiritual information.

There are no "scientific errors" in the Urantia book. Only through a biased perspective of someone who wants to find a mistake so they project a meaning upon word use rather then taking the full work in context can any "mistakes" be found. The mistakes are the illusions of the mind of they looking for errors rather then truth. It's just like modern day "sound bites" can make it seem stuff is being said that isn't. NO SCIENTISTS have ever accused the urantia book for making a mistakes.

It's very hard, and confusing, to read it like a book. You should keep in mind that the "urantia book" is actually a series of papers. Each paper, for the most part, is self standing. The first two parts of the book are less relivant to humans living on this planet now then the last two. So I strongly sudgest everyone starting starts reading at part 3.

the Urantia Book no where states "kill" them off. It advises us to breed them out. It also suggest we should not allow criminals to reproduce. Is that so bad?
I've worked with severely mentally retarded adults and it's a tragedy to see the waste of their lives, not to mention the enormous social expense to care for them.
No one with any morals would condone killing them, but should they be allowed to reproduce more? Is that fair to the rest of society that we should bear an unnecessary burden?

well, because without the full picture we can totally mistranslate things......just reading bits of the bible for example can generate COMPLETELY different interpretations and understandings....I used to be very hasty to judge manh things, until I realized the more I THINK I know, the more I realize I don't know...

Elimination does not mean killing off people. In the era that they are talking about, way in the future, people have self-government. Which means each individual decides what to do. If someones feels that their genes will not contribute to their society, (lets say they find a gene in themselves that is conducive to schizophrenia) they can decide if they want to procreate or not. These people would be so spiritually advanced, they would choose not to have kids if they decide its not a good thing.

Again, there's nothing killing anybody here. An example of what they're talking about is the fact that when we had the draft, those who were the most unfit could avoid war, while those who were the fittest got drafted and often killed, which detracted from our gene pool.

Read the whole book and discuss it with an open mind with others who have studied it before commenting. So many people criticize things before making an in-depth study of it. There is nothing in there about racial cleansing. Nothing about killing the weak and retarded. If you believe there is, post the appropriate quote(s) to back up your opinions. Also Lucifer believed in his personal freedom at the expense of others', that is why he is considered evil.

It now comes with an audio dvd, with the whole book read aloud. So you can read it, listen to it, or you can read along with it as you listen to it being read! It will make the Bible make sense, to both Bible-bangers AND Bible-bashers alike. Talks about aliens too; too cool!

totally, if people all drank ayahuasca before choosing a religion or spiritual path, there would be little need for any books on the subject, and would also settle a lot of the divide and debate that comes between spiritual philosophies.
You do not hear of Shamans committing genocide. Why do indigenous people always get fucked over by modern CULTures? Because they have the keys to keeping people from being able to bullshit each other, if you take that away, BAM! FAiTh CONtrol.

I agree, but I too gained a lot from spiritual texts like urantia and ACIM, so I think of them as training wheels, all belief systems really, because there is a point in realization, where the universe really opens itself up to you(itself), and one realizes, it is not the books, nor the guru, nor the fasting, nor this nor that, but a pure honest drive to KNOW, to BE, to REMEMBER. Still, we need what we need while we think we need it, until we laugh that cosmic laugh under that tree hehe lol

I have read about 35-40 percent of the book. it is a difficult , rewarding read, In all the conversations Ive had with people about it being agreed or not, never has anyone called the book "shallow"...thats is funny, I doubt you got through a page. Keep reading your cereal boxes.

Dude, the Urantia book is not difficult. Its complex no denying that. But there is a big difference between applied memorization and comprehension. The concepts are quite simple to understand.
Try getting abducted, or have an NDE, or smoke some 5-MeO-DMT and experience both, and then tell me the urantia book is not shallow. Im sorry, but, I think its more compassionate to give someone a method to answer all of their questions rather than give them a belief system that creates more.

I like spiritual books, BUT, I love the direct mystical experience or union with god much more. It explains in a very deeply complex simplicity what all these silly little 3d human language limited Belief Systems really are. B.S. Entertaining, effective and spiritually fulfilling BS, but none the less, BS.

Anthropologists have known for the longest time that our ancestors were NOT "adam and eve" but rather australopithecus and the homo species (erectus, habilis, etc.). Does the Urantia book anywhere attempt to explain how, if Adam and Eve are "aliens", why we share about 98% of our dna with chimps and are very similar morphologically to apes?

The Urantia book does not go against those facts you cite understood by anthropologists, nor does the Urantia book state that we are full descendents of Adam and Eve. Notwithstanding the default of Adam and Eve depicted in the UB, the protein coding for the human cells would probably not differ so much from our animal forbears as one might think.

That is not how the Adam and Eve situation was portrayed in the Urantia Book. Adam and Eve were sent to Urantia to UPSTEP the human will creatures at that time by interbreeding. Adam and Eve did not colonize Urantia with humans by themselves or from scratch. You are correct about one thing the Adam and Eve process does take a GREAT deal of time.

All this being said, God is perfect, he is all merciful and he loves all of his creations. It doesn't make sense to me that someone (God) who has the utmost compassion and love would allow any of these creations to suffer, even if they made the most terrible mistakes. He dislikes sin, but he still loves the sinner. I don't want to sound offensive but I think that the bible portrays God in a very Human way, a jealous God, an angry God who seeks revenge from people who don't have faith. wat u thnk

As for the Satan thing. I believe from the Urantia book in a being called Satan but he is not a devil and there is no Hell that he rules. I think God created all humans to be far from perfect, he gave us free will, and it is our imperfection that allows us to commit sin and do evil things.

One difference between the Urantia book and lets say the bible, is that the information was provided from spiritual beings as opposed to humans. It would seem impossible for Jesus's message to stay accurate over so many different years, people, and languages. So to ME it makes sense that it would be written by someone other than humans. However, this is where the whole misconception of the "Alien Bible" derives from. People who don't read the book are quick to alter the facts.

For years I read & believed Urantia was truth. I was still in high school and was seeking something I could hold on to that'd make a difference in my life. My boyfriend, later became my husband, introduced me to it. At first it fulfilled my inner most hunger for answers. Not until I was married did I discover it was a satanic book.
