I was at this show too. For those that may not see, Mike's short says "I know Brian's Dad". They were introduced by Brian Healy of Dead Artist Syndrome.
The original version was recorded live in the studio with Mike giving visual and even verbal cues to the band. You can hear it on the Sticks And Stones album. Lets all be nice now, boys and girls. Mike Roe(lead singer/songwriter) just got married!! Mazel Tov!!!
@mypetsounds I had this album "All Fall Down" when it came out after following them for a few years. It was too good for Christian radio. I think it scared them!.Definitely a Doors influence though. I missed these guys every time they performed near me. Met them all individually though. Great bunch of guys and killer musicians.
@Timmberlea: I've been a fan since PPOTA was released. I remember seeing the vinyl and cassette at the local bookstore. I couldn't wait to hear it and it blew my mind. Then All Fall Down was released and I loved it as well. My favorite - the self-titled release that was on Island records. It is disappointing that these guys weren't bigger.

Stop ripping off other bands names. Have you heard of the internet? Use it before ripping off another bands name. You only get pissed off people like me rating it as poor.
I'm sure that Mike Roe was not spoofing off of the band PBS. And it isn't crappy. This is a great song. I have no idea who PBS is, but this SONG is awesome.
For the record "Pearls Before Swine" is a biblical reference. Matthew 7:6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."
Yeah, this album was released the same day as "The Joshua Tree". Guess where all of Island's promo budget went?
U2's not a bubble gum band, and they deserved the recognition they got with that record, but it's too bad Island couldn't have spread the love around a little.
As a long time fan of both bands, it bums me out that the 77's lost their greatest opportunity for major label success for U2's benefit, even if the boys from Dublin had nothing to do with the decision.
How come the absolutely nasty audio on all these Cornerstone vids? C'mon, man! This stuff is 90% lost to history with this crap audio.

That's what I really like about bands like 77s, is that they have gut level music!

cytube and catbur:
1. Stop making fools of yourselves. The name of this *band* is not PBS, it is The 77's. The *song* name is Pearls Before Swine.
2. The band has been around since 1981-82, this song is from 1987. Were you surfing the net in 1987?
Give it a rest.

Where is there a ripoff of a bands name? The term Pearls Before Swine comes from The Bible.

And this song was released in 1987, long before the internet was widely used.

Shut up catbur. Mike Roe is THE rock star of the world. You must just be jealous cause you wanna be him.

This song was originally written and recorded in 1987. Maybe the band you're talking about took their name from this song?
I've never heard of them, but if they're 77s fans, they couldn't be all that bad.

A most excellent video. The last part was a funky transitional mood vector.
