Why isn't this song more widely known? I can't even count the number of times I've heard Stars and Stripes Forever, Your a Grand Ole Flag, and all the other crappy songs. But this one is magnificent.
@MrTThorne93 You back motherfucker? Some assholes just never learn.
How many time have you been banned? One? Two? Three?
And what right do you have to judge who's a Christian? Are you one of people who thinks Catholics and Mormons aren't Christians?
Look, just leave Dixie videos alone. It got your ass banned last time, and it will get you banned again. And while finding new ways to insult you was fun. It's tiring now. How 'bout a good old Non-Agression Pact.
You civil war, and confederate haters - go educate yourself about the civil war. If you did, you would know that that war was not about slavery, but about being attacked by your own government and fighting for your home and your freedom. Every one of you would fight for that. The slavery issue came up much later in the war. Abolishing slavery was a wonderful thing, but not the basis of the war. There were black troops that volunteered and fought for the south also.
@earthworkr2 You mean educate us about the WAR OF SOUTHERN AGRESSION . The south waged a millitant Jihad against the Unionst Christians . The War of southern agression was a war to conquer the Union states of America the USA by the inbred confederates and their terrorist officers . THe Union Forever Down with the traitors up with the Stars
I kind of like the confederate version better. "Down with the tyrants, raise up the cross". Though I still support the Union. It's just that our politicians suck. Politicians shouldn't get paid. They should get housing and food (nothing extravagant). And have to fly US airways (or Delta, etc) like the rest of us. Without all of the perks, the greedy would leave, and those who actually want to serve the county would run.
Proud that my little grand-son is American -- great country that I pray will get back to the principles of Truth that it was founded upon. The people deserve no less! If only we could hear this rallying cry in the streets of America's cities and towns once more...time to rally 'round the Flag of Freedom before we are all slaves. No more half-truths and fake principles predicated upon a pack of lies; no more false wars in the name of justice and liberty. Time to stand up for FREEDOM everywhere!
@branman864 Slaves rising up to kill their master? Is that so different from what the American revolution was fought for? Was this country not founded on freedom? Did our founding fathers no kill for it?
War is a messy business, and blood is the price we pay for what we believe is right. Were the American revolutionaries terrorists? Was our carpet bombing of Japan and Germany terrorism? Are drone strikes terrorism? How many innocents have we killed?
@BadLuck765 What war took place in 1859? What war was it that made John Brown even "accidently" kill a free black? What war made John Brown raid Federal property in an attempt to murder?
@BadLuck765 If John Brown is not a terrorist because he used blood and "blood is the price we pay for what we believe is right" is Osama Bin Laden not a terrorist, since he faught for what he believed was right?
@branman864 Terrorist means, very broadly defined, "to use fear as a weapon." More narrowly defined, it means guerrilla groups who attack things with hidden explosives, or other unconventional tactics to create fear or panic. By definition, Osama bin Laden is a terrorist.
There is a semantics difference between "terrorism" and "war crimes," but they're essentially the same thing.
Also, having slaves rise up and kill their master, I fail to see why that's so terrible.
@alexf711 Keep telling yourself that, revisionist. Or you could take the words of Confederate Vice President Stephens:
"Its (confederate govn't) foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests upon the great truth that the Negro is not equal to the white man. Slavery — subordination to the superior race — is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great and moral truth."
@crixxxxxxxxx Hard words to listen to. Hard words to swallow. The TRUTH usually is. Chew hard boys 'n' girls, and swallow. Then RALLY 'ROUND THE FLAG, ' cause the battle still rages.
Stirring music indeed! Lincoln said that was the abolition of slavery was not his intention. His error was to try to Force a Union that had been brought about by Mutual and Peaceful, though impassioned compromise. The decision whether the states had the right to secede belonged to the Supreme Court, not to the President. Lincoln's terrible decision caused the death of some 620,000 Americans, the worst war in our history. The south was destroyed economically by Sherman and Sheridan etc.
When this megalomaniacal attempt failed, as predicted by pre war planners, at the last minute he switched and tried to follow WPO-3. But by then, the defense was in chaos -- in shambles and Bataan could not be adequately stocked with supplies to hold out as planned.
Wrong. War Plan Orange 3 called for MacArthur to hold on to the Bataan Peninsula for 6 to 9 months. It called for an IMMEDIATE withdrawal to Bataan upon the start of war with Japan. MacArthur refused to follow it initially. Instead, he thought he could defeat the Japs in the field via his numerically superior army of Philipinos, supported by some elite units and by his US forces.

McA was ordered out of Corregidor by Marshall, who had hated him since McA had filed an efficiency report that said that Marshall should not be given command of more than a batallion. He considered resigning commission and taking up arms as a private, but was dissuaded by staff. McA was very complex, very bright, and a winner. Truman was scared of him politically, and fired him to keep him from getting the Rep. nom for Pres. Instead we got Ike, who McA said was the best clerk he ever had,.......
@aceeddyjones MacArthur would not have been able to been successful in Europe. Each tool to its job. Ike was a brilliant supreme allied commander, diplomatic enough to deal with prima donnas likes Churchill, Montgomery, Patton and De Gaulle, but tough enough not be dominated by them. MacArthur would have destroyed the alliance and received no cooperation from the British, possibly gaining a war with the Soviet Union as well. Had Soviet Union made a separate peace, the war would have been lost
Jesus Christ why does everybody get so pissed about stuff that hasn't any bearing on the orginal post? It's a song celebrating the Union. Ol gen. Maccy wasn't even born so just chill out and God bless America lest we have to rely on our own strength of mind and single minded determination like the Union and Confederacy both had back then. Cause just from this comment trail there isn't a single sign of unity that countrymen could and should share.
@ThePopee1 A couple of northern states had slaves, yes. They tended to more agricultural than long-urbanized areas like New York. Hardly hundreds of thousands like those genteel planters who doubled as the southern states' representatives and senators, though. They tried to leave the union because they couldn't run it anymore.
Ike was not a coward, and he didn't let the Russians take Berlin. That order came from FDR and he had already been comitted to letting the Russians take Berlin at Yalta. Perhaps a big mistake, but remember FDR was so ill at Yalta he simply didn't have the strength to stand up to Joe Stalin. Actually FDR was probably to il to continue serving as president at that time. Blame FDR not IKE
I hate it when jackasses come to these videos and start posting idiotic statements concerning this period in American History and try to relate it to what is going on today. Both the Northern and Southern songs are a part of our heritage.
F*** all trolls who pollute this with their drivel.
@AwesomeMrGuy what matters most is the end result. we have that ability to look towards the end result since it's history. Even America during WW2 carried prejudice and hypocrisy, yet hitler (like confederacy) still stood for something far worst. defeating them must have happened in order to preserve humanity...even if the forces doing so are not so well rounded themselves. furthermore, Lincoln may have felt as such during his candidacy for pres. but changed his ways in the end.fact
@galept of course I know who they were referring .... the traitors of today are allowing this influx of illegals of which both political parties have much to gain... For me, born in Va and living now near several major battlefields of the Civil War, Australia is looking better all the time..
@irish89055 I grew up around Antietam and Harper's Ferry, spent most of my life so far involved in Civil War history, culture and heritage. Australia's got nothin on us!
@galept hi galept.... my comments about moving to Australia and comments as to whom the modern day "traitors" are, relates to the invasion of the US by millions of illegal hispanics. I live just south of Richmond near many battlefields including Cold Harbor and Petersburg. I love the Antietam battlefield from photos and want to go, even live up that way if I don't leave the US... This invasion will stop and they will go home if we start arresting the employers..
@irish89055 I Support digging up the Confederate Soldiers every year and hanging the corpses along all highways because these men betrayed America and we KILL traitors and Commies
@galept ok, my anger of the current day policy of illega hispanics is going over most your heads. ummm, as I live almost on the very battlegrounds surrounding Richmond, Va and am a native of Va, the traitors werent' the common confederate soldier as much as people like Lee and other US generals that turned their back on the US. A big ceremonial traitor was Edmond Ruffin who was give the "honor" of firing one of the first cannons to fire on sumter, he lived not far from where i write this..
Doesn't matter, the CSOA no longer exists, and the rebel flag is obsolete. The current union flag is the Stars and Stripes. That is the flag of all united Americans.
Nobody invaded the South. The South was part of the US and the South rebelled. The Union had a right and a duty to bring the traitors to the United States to heal.
Up the Stars and Stripes and the U.S. Constitution! Down with the traitors and slavers!
If it hadn't been for the Southern rebellion those 600,000 would not have died.
@TheBushman2 ehhhhhh wrong yankee many of our founding fathers had slaves you fuck you disrespect them i hope they put on your headstone when you die the idiot who fucked our founding fathers i hope people piss on your grave oh also you know the souther POW camps yea because the yanks cut off food supplies they basicly were killing their own men not enough food to feed even the southern guards at the camps and if the yanks let the confederates sepperate 600k people would not have died
people dont seem to realize tho even if the south won and became a new country both countries would become so weak that I doubt our country would still be around today. We already lost 600 thousand people out of about 30 million americans plus dividing it into two countries? That is very apetizing for a diffrent country to get some free land.
*Sigh*.... damn it, I'm tired of arguing. Look, can we just all agree that whatever the causes of the war, slavery is wrong, state's rights are good, and rabid sectionalism and old grudges just serve to divide us and exacerbate the problems we have? Can't we just look forward to a future built in freedom and equality, and build that future? There are struggles aplenty ahead, without resurrecting these dead ones.
I was born in Texas, raised in Georgia, and now have returned back to Texas. All to say I am from the South. I love this song for it honors those who died for the preservation of the union. God bless this great nation in honor of their sacrifices.
@TheAdjundantReflex SECESSION WAS LEGAL - in that sense the North was VERY much the traitor. The US constitution lost this war. I guess one could say America lost the Civil war because the North one - and the North was preventing the South from exerting its sovereign right.
@Butternut731863 The South never had, does not have and never will have any sovereign rights. Those rights belong to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, not to any one or group of individual states. The states each gave up their 'soveriegn rights' when they joined the Union.
@romangeneralbob It was not about slavery little one. You need to hit the books a lot more, and not your bullshit textbooks that bread lies and minority pride.
@EpicTrollBeastMan yeah it was about states rights to hold on to slavery. south thought Abe Linc was gonna take slaves away (Slavery) and left the union. the north then invaded the confederacy (Unity). I know it was not a crusade to free the slaves.
South will rise again and please do, so this time we can build a gigantic, fortified barrier around them and cut off all ties so we can forever be free from the burden of being associated with racist cousinfuckers who have not made a progress for the past 150+ years.
I find the fact that the confederate version has the same chorus incredibly depressing. The most costly US war, and the same patriotic song was a hit for both sides.
600,000 American lives lost and there are still morons who fly the rebel flag. We are all Americans and should stand united. That is how we honor their sacrifice
@Goatoftheforest hmmm reminds me of a certain situation back during the American revolution. i do believe the English were making similar claims during the American Revolution that we were English and we should remain united under the crown.
@Thx1138d why. when your just going to quote a high school text book. If you would just dig down a little deeper you would not be acting the way you are now. Trust me i do not need to try anything. I have already seen the capabilities of your education based on your comments.
I am not quoting any high school textbook. If you had been a slave i am sure your perspective would have been different compared to your narrow minded Southern xenophobism.
@Thx1138d Did u know General Lee freed his slaves before the emancipation. While Grant held on to his till it had passed. Did u know the confederacy had in the works a similar bill. Did u know that freed black men chose to fight for the confederacy as well (ex. First Louisiana Native Guard). did u know that about 97% of confederate soldiers were non slave owners and most were small time farmers who could in no way compete with plantations. But they still fought.
@Thx1138d do not presume u know me. but since u decide to go there like ever typical person who's knowledge on the Civil War come from a text book. I will tell u a little about me.
My wife is Chinese, my brother in law is black, i have 2 uncles who are half Black Foot native American, and 2 uncles and a aunt who are half Korean. I have friends who are from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Uganda, Ghana, Iraq, and Afghanistan. I love them all very much.
@Thx1138d I may be a proud Southerner, but i am no xenophobe. I give respect to everyone. I do not care what nationality, race, or religion a person is. I will respect anyone until i am disrespected. And i will defend who I am, where i am from, and what my ancestors fought for. (My ancestors who fought in that war, happened to be Irish immigrants.)
And because of this I wont disrespect who you are, where u r from, nor what your ancestors did. each side had good reasons for why they fought.
@TsumeBeta038 do u mean your ancestors were Irish immigrants? haha i am not to sure what u mean same here. i said quit a few things in my last "few" posts. but none the less u have my respect.
@Goatoftheforest Just because they are flying a Confederate flag does not mean they are trying to not be American. People in the confederacy considered themselves as American as anyone in the North. so let them fly the Confederate flag and honor the fallen. Other wise your not being very American to say other wise.
@Goatoftheforest its the same thing as playing this song, not trying to be a dick but the south werent as bad as people make them out to be, i respect both sides because they atleast fought for which they believed blue or gray, and no other war will you find this, the civil war is what brought a nation together so i think there is some beauty in sporting a rebel flag and others sporting the stars and stripes because in the end they both came together
@Butternut731863 check your sources on that one....the Union lost a large number more than the confederates. Mainly because their main general, Ulysses S. Grant used the tactic of throwing soldiers against the confederates, confident that they would win due to their much larger number of troops.
@kpeverson83 Not necessarily - yes he blundered at Cold Harbor and in the closing days when he ordered assaults on the Petersburg Trenches, and Vicksburg - but lots of the butcher was due to poor Generalship by Northerners like Burnside at Antietam and Fredericksburg, and McClellan who was so cautious at Sharpsburg despite outnumbering the South 2 to 1 that the war went on much longer than it had to, and Meade at Gettysburg let Lee slip away as well. I see your point though :) Long live AMERICA!
@kpeverson83 The north lost a smaller percentage of men then the south did. While the north's casualties were higher it could afford to lose more then the south did. Grant, Sherman and Lincoln all knew this and called it 'The Butcher's Bill'.
@proudconfederate65 The Confederacy lost because it deserved to lose what was essentially a rich man's war and poor man's fight. I feel bad for all those dumb bastards who died to support the rich, slaving-owning elite who didn't give a damn about poor white families except to exploit their men as cannon fodder. And before you can go into your song and dance about states rights, let me point out that the only state right that was at issue was the right to own slaves.
@Ezrateach the yanks should have let the confederates be their own country and not intervene why they attacked was because they couldn't handle without the south because that is where most of their crops food supply came from. but hey look at our country now obama fucking us over an dover and over but hey no that's fine we let that happen things would be a lot different stayed their own country besides you yanks had a drunk for a general coming to battles wasted while we had Robert E. Lee
@philpalx yea and now look at us we are the all might union wooo getting fucked in the ass by president not even know his birthplace obama and now our nation is mocked and fat hell yea i sure love the yanks wooo fuck off billy boy
YES!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS THE UNION!

He considered resigning commission and taking up arms as a private, but was dissuaded by staff. McA was very complex, very bright, and a winner. Truman was scared of him politically, and fired him to keep him from getting the Rep. nom for Pres. Instead we got Ike, who McA said was the best clerk he ever had,.......
aceeddyjones 6 months ago

Fuck's sake.

smellincoffee 7 months ago 32
@smellincoffee you know, both sides during the civil war had slaves until late 1865.
ThePopee1 6 months ago

@irish89055 actually, they were referring to states that decided the right to own people was worth going to war over

@galept of course I know who they were referring .... the traitors of today are allowing this influx of illegals of which both political parties have much to gain... For me, born in Va and living now near several major battlefields of the Civil War, Australia is looking better all the time..
irish89055 8 months ago
@irish89055 I grew up around Antietam and Harper's Ferry, spent most of my life so far involved in Civil War history, culture and heritage. Australia's got nothin on us!
galept 8 months ago
@galept hi galept.... my comments about moving to Australia and comments as to whom the modern day "traitors" are, relates to the invasion of the US by millions of illegal hispanics. I live just south of Richmond near many battlefields including Cold Harbor and Petersburg. I love the Antietam battlefield from photos and want to go, even live up that way if I don't leave the US... This invasion will stop and they will go home if we start arresting the employers..

A big ceremonial traitor was Edmond Ruffin who was give the "honor" of firing one of the first cannons to fire on sumter, he lived not far from where i write this..

people dont seem to realize tho even if the south won and became a new country both countries would become so weak that I doubt our country would still be around today. We already lost 600 thousand people out of about 30 million americans plus dividing it into two countries? That is very apetizing for a diffrent country to get some free land.
king12191 9 months ago
*Sigh*.... damn it, I'm tired of arguing.

TheAdjundantReflex 10 months ago
@TheAdjundantReflex SECESSION WAS LEGAL - in that sense the North was VERY much the traitor. The US constitution lost this war. I guess one could say America lost the Civil war because the North one - and the North was preventing the South from exerting its sovereign right.
Butternut731863 10 months ago
@Butternut731863 The South never had, does not have and never will have any sovereign rights. Those rights belong to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, not to any one or group of individual states. The states each gave up their 'soveriegn rights' when they joined the Union.

DESheffield2nd 11 months ago
I am not quoting any high school textbook. If you had been a slave i am sure your perspective would have been different compared to your narrow minded Southern xenophobism.
Thx1138d 11 months ago
@Thx1138d Did u know General Lee freed his slaves before the emancipation. While Grant held on to his till it had passed. Did u know the confederacy had in the works a similar bill. Did u know that freed black men chose to fight for the confederacy as well (ex. First Louisiana Native Guard). did u know that about 97% of confederate soldiers were non slave owners and most were small time farmers who could in no way compete with plantations. But they still fought.
DESheffield2nd 11 months ago

And because of this I wont disrespect who you are, where u r from, nor what your ancestors did. each side had good reasons for why they fought.

@Goatoftheforest Just because they are flying a Confederate flag does not mean they are trying to not be American. People in the confederacy considered themselves as American as anyone in the North. so let them fly the Confederate flag and honor the fallen. Other wise your not being very American to say other wise.
DESheffield2nd 11 months ago
@Goatoftheforest its the same thing as playing this song, not trying to be a dick but the south werent as bad as people make them out to be, i respect both sides because they atleast fought for which they believed blue or gray, and no other war will you find this, the civil war is what brought a nation together so i think there is some beauty in sporting a rebel flag and others sporting the stars and stripes because in the end they both came together
corpralkirsch 11 months ago
@Goatoftheforest about half of those died under that rebel flag.
Butternut731863 10 months ago 20
@Butternut731863 check your sources on that one....the Union lost a large number more than the confederates. Mainly because their main general, Ulysses S. Grant used the tactic of throwing soldiers against the confederates, confident that they would win due to their much larger number of troops.
kpeverson83 10 months ago
@kpeverson83 Not necessarily - yes he blundered at Cold Harbor and in the closing days when he ordered assaults on the Petersburg Trenches, and Vicksburg - but lots of the butcher was due to poor Generalship by Northerners like Burnside at Antietam and Fredericksburg, and McClellan who was so cautious at Sharpsburg despite outnumbering the South 2 to 1 that the war went on much longer than it had to, and Meade at Gettysburg let Lee slip away as well. I see your point though :) Long live AMERICA!
Butternut731863 10 months ago
@kpeverson83 The north lost a smaller percentage of men then the south did. While the north's casualties were higher it could afford to lose more then the south did. Grant, Sherman and Lincoln all knew this and called it 'The Butcher's Bill'.
