Glenn, this is what I like about you. You respond right back, thanks. And By the way, keep up the good work, you're an exceptional player and offer great help to all who ask. Really appreciated.
excellent video shoot, love that split screen mix in real time so everything is properly synched up, a complete extemporaneous speech without the chopped up video editing feel. cue cards if used were not distracting from the veiwers perspective, playing was natural and expressive, not overdone. Traynor should be very pleased with this promo. you rock Glenn!
@SwallowedByTheTide It just doesn't have enuff' distortion. You would need to add an external distortion pedal to get some descent metal tones out of it.
I am looking to get a tube amp. I play mostly blues (Sanatana, Freddie King) sometimes some Queens of the Stone Age stuff. I am looking for a versatile tube amp that could deliver these sounds - would the YCS50 be a good choice? I was also looking at a Peavey Classic 30 any thoughts on that?
@SpyderKM Marshall has some great little combos and while they would be great for Chill Peppers stuff right out of the box, with a little distortion pedal added you could do Pantera tones no problem.
Hi Dave, What pup were you using on this demo ? Bridge--or neck---is it that amp or do all PRS guitars sound that thin & tinny ? There is no grit coming out here to my ears. Really tinny !
Three 12AX7s make it just a little puny in the gain, as you only get two for for gain and one being the phase inverter for the power tubes. Open sounding and jangly like EL34s, though 5881s are not my fave power tube, they can be a bit dry and sterile. Missing that thick, creamy drive. Good clean tones, reverb not overly wet and doinky(is that a word?lol) Definitely not for the 'banger boys and girls, but has some real good classic tones in there. Good playing and good, thorough walk through.
This would be an excellent demo if it didn't have that background music over top of it. That so annoying and it interferes with my ability to hear the amp!!!
@Zhorellski That is a good question. I don't think it is self biasing but I think you can change out the tubes. I'll try to get an answer from Traynor. I'd like to know this myself.
Great playing, great sound, great amp - at the top of my list after this video and hearing it at a local guitar shop. Feature packed and imho better than many big name and boutique amps.
Hi Glenn, I have carefully watched all of your videos many times and you have been extremely helpful on my studio and live set-up & gear decisions. Thanks for everything my friend. Now, I want to decide which processor I should get and besides X3 Live or GT-10, want to learn your opinions about TC Electronics' Nova System. Another video from Glenn' s point of view would be amazing.
If you mean from this video then no. The music I am playing in the beginning & end of this video will be on an up coming album. If you are interested in checking out my music please visit my blog or website.
hey i have a few questions, first the type of style your playing is pretty cool could you give me a few songs to learn with that style of strumming and clean style you have....and second i have a POD x3, do you think i could get a similar sound as yours wiht that and an epiphone with custom pickups??
niceee thnks man, since i play usually wiht my band and will be soon at bars..would you recomend the 1x12 or 2x12 ..and is ther much of a difference between the two if you are playing at lets say bar volume?
IDK about the 2x12 but man that 1x12 is LOOOOUUUUD. It is just as loud as my 350 watt Traynor K-4. I am only running the master at 1/2 way and that's enuff', and my band is very loud. I would say the 2x12 would be overkill for a pub or bar scene. I am waiting on an extension cab for this amp.
Wow nice, great amp with lots of features an quality! I never herd of this brand before everything these days is a Marshall. I guess since it's easy to get lol! I am curious though have you done a Andy Timmons patch for Pod x3 live? I have a used a few of your patches so far an they are always better then anything I try to create lol. That's why I asked, anyway 5/5 for the video man!
It would've been nice to hear you play some lead and bend some notes above the 12th fret. Sounded good for rhythm, but didn't seem to have much sustain for lead work.
That has alot to do with the guitar pick-ups also. I can assure you this amp has plenty sustain especially when you add your pedals or whatever effects you use. The propose of this demo was to let people hear how the amp itself sounded with no effects. I guess I could have done more riffing higher up though. Just didn't think about it. sorry ;-)
HI Glenn..great video. So i noticed you mentioned the volume/level control for the effects loop..is that how you are running the GT-10? Or are you running it through the other inputs on the back..could not remember what you said. Thanks!
No Actually I am running the GT-10 through the front amp input. The trick is I am not using any of the GT-10 amp models or cab sims. I am only using the stomp OD sims and the effects from the GT-10. I am using the amps channel to control switching from channel 1 to channel2 on the amp. This way I can use the amps overdrive and tubes. It's working well and sounds great. I hope to do another short demo on that soon.
I'm more of a metal-player, but this amp sounded really good! Never heard of Traynor before though. I think this amp will suit blues/jazz and old-school rock very very well. Sounds really great. Nothing for metal though so I will probably not buy, but I would definitely recomend it for other types of players.
Glen, you do top quality, professional demos. Even on gear I don't own and might not need, I still find your demos consistently provide really good food for thought. This amp sounds really nice and seems really versatile. Great playing as always. Thank you.
Great demo. Usable, real-world tones by a pro player. No more Premiere Guitar videos for me!!

would this amp work well with a Line 6 pod HD500?
rpape2601 7 months ago
@rpape2601 Sure it would. You could go right into the front of the amp and use the clean channel.

I don't see why this amp couldn't do metal. Especially the head version which I hear has an extra gain stage.

@ElTone43 Yes the Traynor is great for blues. I used the YCS50 on my blues album and came out with some really good tones.

Hi, my local guitar shop is trying to sell this amp to me as a metal amp. Do you think this could be passed as a metal amp?
SpyderKM 1 year ago
@SpyderKM Absolutely not LOL. This is not a Metal Amp!!!! Blues, yeah... Classic Rock (with a good distortion pedal) yeah... Metal, A big NO!!
extremevideopro 1 year ago
@extremevideopro lol thought so. i been trying to find a great tube combo amp that can rock out tones from chili peppers to pantera. any ideas?

patdel92 2 years ago
The POD X3 is good but what you are hearing in this demo is the amp only. Your guitar should sound good with that amp for sure.
As far as what songs to learn, the best advise I can give you is to go out & buy Stevie Ray Vaughan "Texas Flood" album. Learn from that.
