The captain dies in the end. All this talk about parallel dimensions is BULLSHIT. What he's experiencing in the end is the afterlife. He was in a fucking computer simulation. That's why it's called SOURCE CODE, like a fucking program. The whole premise of the movie is to appreciate life because it can be taken anyway at any second, NOT that we can hop into other dimensions. I can't believe people are so fucking stupid... -_-

@MrDrogosan no it wasn't the afterlife. The end were she GOT the text message that he sent, was THE OTHER DIMENSION, so in the real world she never got it. She only got the message in advance IN the other dimension the source code could bring them to.

According to the commentary, the text that she receives at the end of the film was received by her in a different "parallel world". Don't know what happens to "Sean", who originally was killed along with the other passengers.

Source code makes was perfectly simple to understand and in my opinion, it's ending deserved more attention and discussion than inception's.

Many people had trouble grasping the idea that the source code was more than a mere simulation reconstructed from memory, but that it actually granted the ability for an observer to access parallel realities. That was basically the whole point the movie and ending was making, hence all the string theory references.

I have watch this, you got to somehow have interest in the mystery of quantum physics to like this, Quantum tunneling using mind-link to Sean. and dimensional tunneling to alternate really using a host mind/body which is Sean. I somehow like this movie, if you have no interest in the mystery of physics and technology you definitely cant understand the movie,

I'd have to say anyone who doesn't get anything about this movie, is kinda stupid. The ending has some confusion, but if you actually watch the damn movie, or pay a little attention, you'd realize that he is in the body of someone else during the sourcecode, and reviewing the 8 minutes left of brain memory.

at the end of the movie captain Stevenson, main character dies but lives on in the source code as Shawn while another Captain Stevenson is alive in the altered reality. Thus a cycle.

@underbolly Close explanation but not quite. What really happened is the moment Goodwin, the female officer, ended his life support in his Reality, he got stuck as Shawn in another parallel reality where source code has not been used and Captain Stevenson(him) is still alive.

My guess would be it has something to do with him going back and not realizing he's someone else at this point in the movie, or something along those lines. Otherwise I would think he had gone back in time and came back, not realizing he left, but everyone else does, except he says where the bomb is located. So pretty much throws out that second theory of mine.

@Ichigostrawberrys, half of his body was destroyed in combat, but they used his upper body and still active brain for the last 8 minutes of surviving conciousness. The machine keeps him alive & allows him to jump into the other body and control it while the host in uncontious. That is how the transition works. However, the system does not allow for deviations from central individual mission given the limited amount of time available to achieve it. Hence, he is limited in his options by default.
