i remember this when i was in 4th grade , i remember the teacher watching news channel 5 reporting this one and my school was taking cover in the hall ways while their was nothing but chaos outside, i also remember going to Hendersonville to see the damage ive never seen so many car and building destroyed in one area, i think that was one of Tennessee worst tornado breakouts
I experienced this tornado first hand, was caught right in the middle of it....literally...12 people were killed...i lived by kangaroo...just devastating!
We stopped filming because we ran for cover in Lowes. We made it into Lowes about a minute or two before it hit Vol State. It then went a block or so behind us and killed several people just off of Shutes Lane. We were much closer than we wanted to be.
@papillonkids I remember when I went to Wal Mart in corbin,Ky to take shelter for a tornado and they had everybody to get in the middle of the store were the clothes were at. Hail started pounding down so hard on the roof that it sounded like thousands of sledgehammers and everyone was looking at the ceiling like, (Are we gonna die.) It only got worse, The lights went out and everybody started screaming and running and tripping over things. No one was hurt or killed. It happened April 24, 2010.
That's crazy. I live in Westmoreland, and when I went to Hendersonville to check on my sister I could believe how much damage had been done. Sad part is Vol-State hasn't changed much since then. If it were to happen again, it could be worse.
that same tornado was chasing me my sister and my mom when we were going down the interstate.then we had to find shelter in a building and the tornado destroyed a gas station about 300 feet away from us and after about 20 minutes past it was over.but after i saw that tornado dissapear i saw another one form in the other direction and it turned out to be an F3 i think.once we road to our house we saw damage everywhere .
yeah i totally remember this...i go to station camp now as a senior. this happened my freshman year there. it was so scary. i was on the second floor in the science wing...in other words i was pretty dang close to it lol. i think it was really lucky it totally missed the school and only hit our sports fields
I went to station camp when the tornado hit, we where hit pretty bad I didnt get to leave the school until 5pm. My god father owned the Key Stop market next to Tom Bannen and that was hit pretty bad and my grandparents lived over by the Kangaro Mart on 109.
Its very difficult to watch all of this and remember what it was like to sit though it.
Nothing strange about tornadoes in Sumner County. I've lived there for 27 years.
I delivered newspapers to every house off of Browns Lane for years and knew quite a few people there. I watched footage on CNN and MSNBC that day and couldn't recognize the area because of the absolute destruction.
this is so scary...you must have some of the last video footage of vol state before it got hit. my dad was in the W building there (not one of the one's worst hit) and this was such a scary day for everyone...
Believe me, I was. I kept begging my husband to go to Vol State. He wisely chose not to because the tornado went right through Vol State (he could tell it would). We finally got past VS and went to Lowes. The tornado destroyed many houses and killed a few people about 2 blocks behind Lowes. Too close!
I was in this... I was at Sumner Academy when it hit, destroyed the school.
