This is a live version of the (Jungle Brother) Sammy B Remix. She sang over the, "Synthetic Substitution", drum sample also used by Ultramagnetic ("Ego Trippin'"), De La Soul ("Potholes..."), and others. I have not seen the recording posted on YouTube or anywhere else (maybe I'm just missing it). IMO, it is the best remix of this classic.
Wow..it seems like yesterday...it's funny how the youth within inside you is not really far away. Memories will always take you through a time machine. A certain song, dance. slang. style and mind set of an era. will we ever liver days like this again?
Listen to the struggle of centuries in the lyrics..and we are still struggling.
Why was this woman with her great voice and presence not made a bigger star. The black image never has and never will be accepted in mainstream white culture it has to be repackaged...if you know what I mean.
DAMN! After all these years she still got that big ole ass! oooh Lord now I see why they call it spread. You can just lay that shit down all over the whole bed if you needed to. Jesus have mercy, that Sherry Shepard gal on the view ain't got shit on this woman.
I remember when I was 15 my mother bought me my first stereo with a built-in CD player. Caron Wheeler's solo debut was one of the first CD's I got and I was so happy. Not just because I got to hear "Blue" but because it was CHRISTMAS!!!
for anyone who hasn't heard it, check out the beatminerz album "brace for impact" caron wheeler has a tune on there called "open" and it is absolutely wicked....worth getting the album for that track alone. anybody who wants it, leave me a note and i'll e-mail it to you...
Excellent! I have two of Caron Wheeler's solo albums. I hope she does another, because they were both great albums. "Blue is the Color of Pain", "I Need a Man" and "In Our Love" should have been mega-hits. But great singers who sing about substance often get over looked by the mass media!
i used to want to be you Caron love you ...you've inspired me to be a singer too. I love love your voice &songs so much, keep being beautiful and being u, love hun x
Her Live in Japan (2004)DVD is good. Her version of Don't Quit on that DVD will perhaps be her signature live song 30 years from now. She nailed it vocally and emotionally. This woman, in my book, was the first true "neo-soul" artist. She was about 3 years ahead of her time. If she'd stayed with soul II soul until about 1992 and then went solo in 1994...she would have been the biggest thing in U.S R&B. Timing is everything in the biz.
you have just blessed my night with this posting...Caron Wheeler is so beautiful. This cd (her first) is a classic. Such a conduit she is -still. She has another song called "Lite as a feather" that is truly beautiful. It is on her cd "Beach of the War Goddess". She is so brilliant.
Caron, we miss you... I'm from Turkey and live in The netherlands. Do you remember the interview you gave in Turkey in the 90's? I still have it recorded somewhere... I'm about to release my own album. You're a big inspiration. A Child Of Nature is soooooooo PROUD of you... Orkun

My favorite UK female artiste. Her vocals graced those Soul II Soul tracks and blew that album wide open. What is she doing now? She was so gifted.
