net netaulity is the idea that with any internet connection you can see every site. companys are trying to buy the rights to that. as in depending on what you pay you can see only some stuff. and not any thing that the company you buy internet acces from wants.
COPE act will never pass. Public access will never go out of business. If your public access provider is non-profit/non-commercial organization, why are they allowing their producers to "tag" their YouTube clips & shows with their respective names eg: MNN QPTV, BCAT, when a producer can just post their own commercial profit links on YouTube without problems & not get reprisals from PATV programming depts. for money you deserve to make. Public access TV orgs are hypocritical capitalists.
Giving corporations controlling interest in how the net is used when it was taxpayers money that was used to build it is just not right. Too bad we couldn't use copyright laws to protect our position on the net neutrality issue...
you are an idiot. the internet is not the freeway. the internet is a much more complicated space than that. you serve as a nothing but a mouthpiece for antibusiness propoganda. internet can be purchased from wi-fi providers, ISPS, telco's, cable companies, celluar phone companies, not from the government. you must be confused. youtube is a private company, so is google, so is yahoo.... hmmm who owns the "inernet" again... MORON the internet is a big network of lots of private networks.
Internet uses byways owned by citizens (public roads, sidewalks, even airwaves for wifi) but is regulated for the people by the govt FCC (mandated by congress.) I hope you see the connection, drinkinstein, about how congress can make legislation to give private companies more control over electronic spectrum that the people own. Its not propaganda, please follow up on your research before you make such biased claims.
so we are talking about regulation of the wires and the frequencies then... i suppose we should just have an un organized spectrum and let it be a free for all. what are you supporting is the exact definition of "net neutrality". are you only talking about physical plant or are you talking about the logical layers of the network? do you not support QOS? you are the uninformed users
The internet is currently "neutral" because the government commissions have protected our rights to our bandwidth with law. The new law will either 1) further protect our rights to free information and free exchange of ideas or 2) allow companies to influence our decision making based on which content providers have the budget to pay. If you fail to see the potential threat to your personal freedom then I can't help you. I think you just want to fight anyway, so thanks for your comments.
Good response. I'm not sure I would have used the highway analogy, as it needs you're aforementioned explanation, but it's still accurate. If the "private" telecoms wanted a 100% free market, they should not have used our tax dollars to set up their infrastructure. In for a penny, in for a pound.
What on earth is "antibusiness propaganda?" Who does it serve to propagate "propaganda" that's against business? Other than the public, I mean (you know, "The People").
Actually, as it is the internet has been of huge appeal to spread business, which following every economist's logic, results in peace. To choke the internet, for which we all contribute with monthly fees a great deal, isn't going to be good business. The corporations have to step back now and keep their need for controlling people lives with offensive economy at bay. They have been extremely useful for the last 50-60 years but democracy has to spread further and corporations have to back off now
Youtube and myspace and bliptv will be just fine, they will introduce greater levels of ad sales to make up revenue for fastlane fees. These companies all have plans to roll out services that are not free, once we are hooked on their free stuff.
Contact every podcaster and blogger you know. They will be crushed if this ever happens. With there reader and listernership, they can help make a difference!!!
Also, with communites like YouTube and MySpace, (also would be crushed) you can help spread the word like WILDFIRE and help STOP this.

Which, you know, it's not free at all. I am paying for my ADSL, dial up and office connection to the web. That is enough money already. The internet is not free, I am paying, lots of people are paying for the connection. I don't get the misinterpretation by the telecoms in the US
Yes, I would like to get internet service without paying for it.
But in this context, I meant Free as in FREE YOUR MIND AND YOUR ASS WILL FOLLOW! That's a Funkadelic song, son. People used to dance to it in the old days. Now go and take your pills.

vote, protest, petition, make a voice of yourself. go to your state rep and complain to them, do something to have your voice heard.

and don't just do it yourself, spread the word, there are a lot more people interested in your same ideals that you would think.

Ironic thing is, they actually ARE selling off the nations highways and other infrastructure in addition to the internet. Google: buys toll roads
