@bhaggen the bitch sayin almost outta gas was me.. sometimes i like talking in odd voices.. and i don't think vdo makes a dipstick sender ANYMORE... you could maybe get one NOS or used, but i know that Gene Berg makes a dipstick, but not for a guage, its for the "idiot" light in your speedo and it makes it come on when the temp gets to 230* or so
competition heads a 120 engle cam, pointless ignition, and perfectly balanced rods and crank, race gas, 48 IDA webbers should get me pretty close. my goal is definitely a little ambitious... :D
i heard the best way to make big power with small displacement is to match port everything. i wanna build a 1641 dual carb motor and make 110 hp minimum. :D
@justin1234 there's like no difference when you build up to just 1641, but there's a HUGE difference with the dual carbs. i put back on the stock carburetor for a little while, but it was such a pain in the ass to get it to run right, not to mention it doesn't run as good. for example, with the stock, my preheat things were clogged so it ran like shit when it was cold and every time i pulled up to a stop sign, it would want to stall. i never worry about it stalling with the duals
@justin1234 oh, and because of the preheat thing, every time i would try to pull away from a standstill, it would.. how do i describe it... load up? and want to die. i would always have to pump up the throttle almost like i was trying to spool up a turbo just to pull away from a stop sign. and i felt like a tool revin my shit in a bug.. lol... it's so loud, but not fast at all xD
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and EFi injectors clean as new!
@MrSevvo took the baffles out. i've never dynoed so i can't give you any numbers. at about 1:16 i show the exhaust. the pipes used to have baffles that were like 3/4 inch holes
@bluesuperbug i show in the video... it goes in the oil relief spot. if you have a dual relief case, make sure u put it in the correct one. i believe the threads are different for the control valve and pressure relief valve.
@super71beetle they were there for the factory A/C condensor surprisingly alot of the super bettles had it but they had alot of issues most failed and were ripped out within the first 5 years of life.
you may need to get an electric fuel pump my stocker wouldn't even keep up with my stock carb at speed, your bugs coming along good got to see it when its finished.
Could be for a short bit, i had the my engine cut out on me when i was racing a prelude, we were doing speeds from 70-110 mph for over an hour on a road trip in the middle of the night, i was running the pict 32 (modified a bit of cores) ratio rockers im guessing i was putting out 70+hp it , so i had to slow down for the pump to keep up! which sucked but im thinking this is not something you or me will be doing often, o i couldn't Keep up in the straights but would catch him in the corners
Any reason you didn't go with a Engle 110 or performance. I just built one my self and should have it in my 72 super this spring, only diference is i have a spin on oil filter adapter, Weber 32-36 progressive and a 110 cam. How do you like the GT exhaust?
I am going to get the 4 tip gt exhaust or the Empi header w/ single quiet pack I still cant decide.
Have you taken it for a spin, does it act a lot better than the stock 1600?
@Corsonb461 Well, I got this bug from my gramps to restore. It still needs to be painted before i'll be able to legally get it out on the road. My dad and I built the engine with parts that my dad bought off a friend. If i could have, i would have put in a w-110 or 100. I have done a serious amount of laps around my neighborhood and it runs great, but i can only compare that to a BEAT TO DEATH smoking, running on 3 cylinders, 1500, lol! I can easily spin the tires if i wanted. i hope this helps
@super71beetle This is just making me more excited to get mine on the road. I need to put all the tin work on and than i can fire it up. I can not wait. Those carbs have to make that drink the fuel, I would have done duals but didn't have the money. My dad had a weber progressive lieing around from a bus engine, i just cleaned that up and got a manifold for it.
Hay there , im actually getting very good mileage with my dual 40s as long as i take it easy with the gas pedal, i calculated it out on a road trip once at 32 mpg as good as a stock beetle !but with way more power when you need it (iv got a trans with highway gearing which helps with the millage) and top speed is over 115 the Chevy that was checking my speedo couldn't Keep up, the needle on my 90mph speedo was moving back towards the 0 didnt quite get there! o this was down a very steep hill
@super71beetle How long do you sustain 88mph? I have a '70 Beetle and, although the speedo goes to 90mph, the certified VW mechanic I have do all my work says I shouldn't push it to 70mph unless it's cold weather. If there's nothing I can do, aside from buy one of those 5speeds for it, I might as well sell it and buy something faster. It's all stock right now.
@super71beetle i have had mine at 90 straight shot no down hill stock 34 pic 1641 empi gt 4 tip exhaust =D s28.photobucket . com/albums/c216/MasterPiMp420/Monster%20Vw%20Stuff/?action=view¤t=Speedo90mph . jpg
i did put it in the pressure relief place... because thats where that sensor is meant to go.. but it reads EXTREMELY inaccurately.. the gauge wont even get up to 120* and i've used infrared laser temp things on the case that read about 140*. its a POS sensor, and a lousy place to mount it.
nice beetle dude. i love the custom gauge cluster too, something i would do myself!

Doesn't VDO make the dip-stick oil temp sender anymore?.......Who's the bitch saying "almost out of gas"?

@skaterpunkdude3 no offense, but good luck with that endeavor. it will have to be a blueprinted masterpiece that revs to 8000 rpms to make that power

i have the exact same one,it goes in place of the sump plug, those webers sound mean!!

where the oil light wire goes you can get a splitter so u can put the oil gauge in the same place as the oil light sender is .
hope this helps you out
