  • i love hearing the tone of fozzie, piggy and yoda in Franks voice

  • RIP Jim Henson, he died when I was 9. I still lived in Belgium. I moved to the US in 1994.

  • @nellie2581 I was just 4 years and a day old the day he died :( my one dream was to meet him in person, but I may yet :) even if I have to join him up there I'll meet him some day :) may he live on in the Muppets! :D

  • Jim was a beautiful and creative man, he was my childhood. RIP Jim. x

  • a genius, that man was

  • I was shocked to the core when jim died so glad the muppets are still here but no one does kermit Quite like jim he was kermit and so very much more he was gone way too soon :*(

  • @wobber999 I totally agree

  • He was a genius

  • @gaargh Definitely

  • Forever my inspiration.

  • no trolls on a Jim Henson related video... ever. Says a lot about the man.

  • that is one massive emotional bomb!! i agree with hugatree10, weeping wreck! thank you for the upload JaimeWester

  • Damn I was so strong til the last five seconds...

  • Hey, one dislike: You're a sad, sad person.

  • It sounds like Fozzie talking at Kermits funeral...

  • @bloodanddajugs Oh yes

  • "I think that's when I knew he loved me and I loved him..."

Pretty sure my heart just broke.

  • Jim Henson has been, and will continue to be my favorite hero. He took a sock and a ping pong ball and built an empire, had fun with it, and stayed a very good man. That's my kinda hero. We'll miss you sir.

  • Oz's emotions were reflected so beautifully.

  • Dosent frank oz play yoda

  • WHY DID HE QUIT PUPPETRY!

  • damn, I was so proud of myself when I realized there was only 10 seconds left and I hadn't cried at all...but then, with only 6 seconds left, my heart broke...

  • i'm all for having your own opinion.. but whoever that one person who disliked this vid probably doesn't have a soul...

  • Thanks SO much for posting this; I have no idea why you would have it to post but I am glad you do. I was so touched by the Muppets as a child and still relive those memories regularly via YouTube. I knew it had been hard on Frank, and had always wondered... like someone else said, it is really nice to finally get some closure about it and I too hadn't realized how much it meant to me. Peace, to you, and to all the puppeteers; I hope they know how much they all meant to us and still do.

  • @AdamR702: I can't pretend to know his mind. All I can say is that I saw it tonight. And I smiled. And in a couple of spots I shed a tear. I think, if Jim had been alive and involved, the movie couldn't have helped but be better, but it was as true to his vision as it could have been without his hand in it.

  • @dragonbat2006 I saw it, too. Now, don't get me wrong; Jim Henson, Richard Hunt, Frank Oz, Dave Goelz, Jerry Nelson, and the other first generation Muppeteers were incredible artists in their heyday & no one can make a movie with their same combination of artistry, comedy & heart. And none of them can be replaced. But the new Muppets movie came pretty darn close to being as great as one of their movies!

  • @ztslovebird

One would hope that there could be a way to open the floodgates for the Muppeteers and the Creature Shop to shine with the new generation (whoever is doing Rowlf and Dr Teeth these days does a great job).

I kind of feel the last 10-15 years were like the Dark Ages for the Muppets. But much like the old guard at Disney gave way to the new 'dreamers,' I think that needs to happen with Henson. Let's just hope Disney can allow them to 'experiment.'

  • those last 6 seconds, wow....

  • If anyone has seen the Muppets movie I have a question. Would Jim be proud of it?

  • @AdamR702 Hugely. It was full of the wonder and sweetness he helped to instill in the world, it remembered him

  • @AdamR702 Of course. Jason Segel made that movie out of all the right reasons. To praise the muppets and Jim.

  • @BJCobbledick It's a great homage to Jim Henson and the Muppets. Some of the Muppet movies/tv shorts made after Jim Henson died seemed to be nothing more than famous people saying "ooh, look, I'm working with the Muppets, yaaayy!". It's not too hard to figure out which ones I mean. But the new Muppets movie is great; it acknowledges that time has passed, there is a generation that doesn't know who The Muppets are, but they will come back when the fans need/want them.

  • @AdamR702 I'd like to think so. There are a few moments with subtitles that hardcore fans will be pissed about (rightly so; we never needed subtitles for Swedish Chef or Camilla before, and we don't now), but they only occur once or twice. There are plenty of homages to past Muppet projects, especially the first Muppet movie. And Walter's a perfect fit for the Muppet family. Anyway, it's definitely worth the price of a movie ticket, popcorn, and bottled water :)

  • @AdamR702 I think so. :)

  • jeez... the last 5 seconds were so painful, and beautiful...

  • We still miss you jim. We still miss you.....

  • Jim Hensen was my Hero. He brought a child-like innocence to television programming that actually taught children of every age, by example. I remember providing child care to my niece when she was about 4. In the morning, and she knew the exact time, she would turn on the television for Sesame Street. She sang along with their songs, counted with The Count, learned the alphabet, numbers and an incredible cast - both human and puppet - how to make a better world and live a better life.

  • @jiblet42 ooops, I forgot, when Sesame Street was over, she went over to the t.v. set and turned it off because Mr. Rodgers annoyed her.

  • Frank and Jim were friends for 27 years and he is up there only 5 days after Jim's death. He has only had 5 days to analyze 27 years of friendship at this point. It's amazing he can speak a word about Jim without tears let alone 8 minutes. Now trying to get across 27 years of friendship in 8 minutes.

27 years of friendship summed up in 8 minutes only 5 days after the friends death.

  • @ShugoDarko You can't hear how choked up he is? I think Jim Henson was sick for a while before he died.

  • @ztslovebird No, on the contrary. Jim died very suddenly. I think everyone was still in a kind of numbed state of shock at first. It was difficult to believe. He got a kind of seasonal flu, had a nasty cough going for a week or so. People kept suggesting he see a doctor. It turned out he had double-pneumonia, and got a serious infection. By the time he sought medical treatment, and was hospitalized, it was too late. He died the next day. This was a very sudden, tragic, shocking turn of events.

  • @dkelly26666 Actually, I am corrected about one thing. It was first reported that he died from pneumonia. But it was later determined to have been a strep infection. He died 21 hours after being admitted to the hospital.

  • @dkelly26666 Yes, by the time Jim finally realized just how sick he was....it was too late

  • Wow, I was fine until the end.

  • I also believe Mr. Hunt is smiling and helping Mr. Henson too.

  • Mr. Henson would be extremely proud of his friends and how much they have done to keep the Muppets and Sesame Street going for so long. Every time a new movie or episode of Sesame Street appears on television and in theatres, I believe he is smiling his broad smile at his comrades, thanking them from heaven. I know he is continuing his dream and entertaining others in heaven as well and the legacy will continue and live on thereafter.

  • I was doing okay through this whole video, in fact I was smiling because of his great stories.. but that moment when he paused at the end and when he finished his eulogy, I just broke down.

  • Thank you for uploading this. My reaction was just like yours.

  • this is amazing. thank you for posting it.

  • Jim connected with every one of us because he was our best friend. He understood us and we shared jokes together, he taught us without teaching, and he loved us as we loved him. Jim was our teacher, our parents, and our relatives, but most of all; he was our friend. We'll all grow older and miss you, but we'll never forget all you've done for us and we'll never forget you.

  • this is an amazing story. it was so sweet and fun. the end rips your heart out. this used to be posted on here but they were taken down. please leave this on here for jim's fans.

  • That breaks your heart

  • I remember that just a few days after Jim died, Sammy Davis Jr died, and that that got a lot more attention in the press. No offence to SDJ, but that didn't do Jim justice :-(.

  • @ScGro Actually, SDJ died the night before Jim did. And while the tributes were pouring in for Sammy, Jim's death was announced.

  • To frank Oz if you ever read this >

Its hard to lose your best friend. But with this speech you honored your friend in such a way that you now can look back and say i am glad i did this for him at such a hard moment. In 2007 i lost my best friend i did the same thing. Dang its so hard stand up there in front of the croud. Words are never enough to say that you miss your friend. But frank > remember >Jim lives on inside you > through your great work. As he is the biggest inspiration to us all.

  • I'd love to see "statue" Jim made for Frank.

  • this is great! :)

  • Thank you for everything Jim Henson. You were my childhood. I remember ever morning before school Sesame Street would be on. I don't know what my life would be like without that show. The end really did break my heart.

Happy Birthday Mr. Jim Henson: September 23 1936- May 16 1990.

  • Thank you Mr. Jim Henson, you were such a big part of my childhood. R.I.P.

  • September 23rd 2011

    Happy birthday Mr. Henson.

You made me laugh and that is the greatest gift you could give to anyone.

    Thank You

    Mike

  • I can barely write this, because of the tears in my eyes...

Jim Henson, thanks for painting our lifes with green.

Thanks for making our childhood beautiful.

    Thanks for making us smile.

    Thanks for your work.

    Thanks.

In loving memory of Jim Henson // 24.09.1936 - 16.05.1990

  • The end of that video literally tears my heart in two. Miss you Jim. Happy 75th, because you are still here.

  • i love this

  • I was fine, and even laughing, until the end. The end killed me. :(

That's fitting, though. The reason this is such a wonderful eulogy is that it effectively expresses Jim's personality, his work, his nature. And all of that is recalled with joy and laughter and fondness.

And then the realization that he is gone is expressed. What came before that makes it even more painful. It expresses the magnitude of the loss profoundly to go from such joy to such sadness.

  • @Vamphaery: but the thing is he'll be remembered by the friend who was with him for 27 years, he'll be remembered by his family. And last by us - who are thankful for him for such "personalities: :) as Kermit or Beaker.

  • @lotharmb1 Indeed, he will not be forgotten for a long, long time. If ever. (I'd like to think if we ever do get of this planet, his work will be some of the "ancient" art we preserve.)

  • When frank says "WOAH" you can tell he is Sam, the American Eagle.

This is so adorable and heartwarming

  • Thanks for posting this. It has been up before but most of these were removed for some reason.

  • Wow.

  • That's a true friend!

  • Wow. I didn't cry, but my heartstrings were definitely tugged. What is Frank saying at the end? I couldn't catch it.

  • @stevi312 "I think that's when I knew... that he loved me, and I loved him."

  • Beautiful... True Friendship :'(

  • I remember the news jim died came on the radio, I was at work. I almost had to leave work that day. I large part of my childhood was gone. Now so many years later to finally see these videos brings a nice closure I never knew I needed until now. The whole muppets thing is a little weaker now without the major driving force behind it. Still miss Jim's work in movies and tv. Thanks Jim.

    Thanks for posting this video.

  • Kind of sounds like Yoda at the end.

  • @jakjonsun

That's because he's the actual voice of Yoda

  • @egtoonster i know... kind of broke character

  • @jakjonsun gotcha, just making sure :)

  • The very definition of love and respect.

  • I grow up watching Jim Hensons muppets and up til he died my children watched. I will always love him and I miss him with all my heart. I still sing the rainbow song... :..(

  • America, and the world, has been blessed by such a soul as Jim Henson.

  • I am so damn lucky to be 36. Why? Jim Henson was part of my childhood. I will never forget. As a child it seemed it would always just be there. By it I mean Muppets. I give all of the remaining muppet troop a lot of credit to keep the dream alive. Sadly without Jim it's not the same, now without Richard, Jerry, Frank, and Jerry Juhl it is over. I will show my new bourn baby real entertainment! 1989 -1950's Muppets! Lots of love to Jim Henson everywhere!

  • God, I was just quietly watching this and then he gets choked up right in the last few moments and I got choked up right there with him. Amazing.

  • Thank you for posting this. Beautiful and touching eulogy. Jim Henson was a gift to the child in all of us.

  • I was fine the whole way through this video... until he lost composure at the end. He and Jim had such a bond. I can't imagine how he feels. I'm surprised he held himself together to the end of that beautiful speech.

  • Great story but that final 5 seconds......damn :'(

  • I'm listening to this and I keep hearing Bert. I realize that Frank does Bert's voice, but I hear Bert more than any other Frank Oz character.

  • Well one person had to be naked and be photographed.

  • he gave us something soooo great it's beyond words!

i can't even begin to imagine what this world would be like if he was never here.

thank you Jim & god bless you!

  • A small part of my childhood died the day I learned of the passing of this great man.

  • Interesting too- as he said they were opposites- like Bert and Ernie are! I wonder how much like Bert and Ernie were their true selves!

  • @wendym1234 I'd like to think it's a decent portion, but I also don't think they can be defined by just one character; they did so many. :)

  • @JaimeWester I remember watching a documentary on Jim Henson, in which they mentioned that the interplay between Ernie (playful) and Bert (serious) was the EXACT same as to how Oz and Henson interacted in real life.

  • All this outpouring for Jim! Just want to also say- you are a wonderful and talented man too Frank! Thank you for continuing his magic and for keeping his dreams and Kermit alive!

  • 1 person is a Grouch.

1 person is Frank Oz (reliving the painful memory)

1 person is Jim's ghost (disliking sadFrank)

or 1 person's cursor just slipped and they disliked it by accident because anyone who would dislike this has no soul.

    ... take your pick.

  • @ewesterart or a mix of all 3

  • @TheaterServant ...touche'.

  • @ewesterart 1 person prefers Avenue Q with it's vuglar humor and potty-mouth puppets

  • @muppetlover16 Aw, hey now, Ave. Q is good too, in it's own right. XD Have you seen it? It actually feels more like a nod to Jim's work than an attempt at just bashing on it for no good reason. It's got a surprising amount of heart underneath the crude exterior. Hahaha...

  • @ewesterart It was only good when they used the OBC (Lyon, Barnhart, D'Abruzzo, Tartaglia et al.) But the new-ish cast (Anderson,Larsen,McClure, and Barnhart) does a phenomenal job

  • @muppetlover16 "It was only good with the OBC, but the new cast does phenomenal"? Hahaha.... that's a bit contradictory, but I agree so I'll go with it. XD I saw the newer cast recently and they did wonderfully.... but still, nothing beats Tartaglia's Rod.

  • @ewesterart IMO JT's Rod is okay, but he whines too much and he always sounds like he needs a decongestant, Bert doesn't sound like that, plus why didn't Rick Lyon say something about Jim too? Guess he couldn't make it to the funeral on time so he missed the whole thing

  • @ewesterart I don't think even the Grouch could dislike this.

  • @johnhamilton08 Why?

  • It'll be a very sad day when one day Jim, Frank, and Carroll are gone. It is heart wrenching to hear Frank at the end there. It's apparent that He loved Jim and Jim loved him. Jim was a visionary, and with the help of both Frank and Carroll, made a world everyone regardless of age, race, etc etc, can love and appreciate.

  • @redmr2na Well said. <3 I'd add Jerry Nelson to that list.

  • @JaimeWester I'm not familiar with Jerry Nelson, what did he do?

  • Comment removed

  • @redmr2na He did Floyd Pepper, Crazy Harry, Lew Zealand, Camilla the Chicken & Robin the Frog for decades & he voices Count von Count while Matt Vogel handles the puppetry of the character cause Jerry's just way too old for that part of this job. Matt is also the official new performer of Floyd Pepper, Crazy Harry, Lew Zealand, Camilla the Chicken & Robin the Frog

  • @redmr2na But look at it this way Steve, Eric, and Matt have taken on Ernie,Bert, and Big Bird, Frank still comes in four or five times a year

  • @redmr2na which obviously won't be for a VERY long time

  • @redmr2na

There have been many deaths of very important people over the years but when I found out about the death of Jim Hensen, I was inconsolable. It still hurts.

  • At 3:11 that's Steve Whitmire in the green shirt

  • Awww :) They were/are our Bert and Ernie. :)

  • PLEASE WATCH THIS ALL THE WAY THRU

  • Did Frank Oz also do the voice of the puppet named "Lefty"?

  • @jityr2 I think Lefty has been performed by Frank, Jerry Nelson, and Carrol Spinney at different times but I could be wrong.

  • @JaimeWester You're correct on that note :)

  • @jityr2 yes lefty was done by frank oz :)

  • @jityr2 yes he did, one of all time fave muppets

  • Steve in green suit !! =]

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING MR JIM AND ALL MUPPET CREW !!! !! !

    YOU ARE W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L ! !! !!!

  • This is wonderful...

  • That is the saddest and most hilarious thing I ever saw.

  • The thought of Jim taking a photo of Frank in the nude strikes me as something Ernie would do to Bert.

Ernie: Bert, I need to take a picture of you naked.

    Bert: ......WHAT!?

  • @beauferret asdfjkl; XD yes!

  • @beauferret Exactly what would happen. XDDDD

  • @Angie2343 Hey Angie2343 can you imagine if Rick Lyon was there too, I bet he'd have lots to say about Jim

Rick: I came to work with Jim in 1987, and of course it was because of Jim that I had the inspiration for Avenue Q, so Jim if you're listening...

    (as Nicky): I love you

    (as Trekkie): Me miss you

(as Blue Bear): And you definately never had a bad idea in your mind

    *Rick breaks down and cries*

  • @beauferret Oh Shut Up!!

  • @shanmer391 What I said wasn't an insult to Jim. I merely expressed how similar Jim & Frank were to their respective Muppet characters and how much Jim & Frank put themselves into their own creations.

Think about it. Ernie & Bert (and every other Muppet) are such loved characters. And it's because of the way these guys are and their passion for what they do.

  • Was he crying at the end? It sounded like it when he said "He love me I love him."

  • @MrTornado300 Um, probably. I mean, it's not hard to believe given the situation.

  • @MrTornado300 Jim was his best friend they spent 27 years together

  • @MrTornado300 He said "That's when I knew...he loved me and i loved him"

  • @MrTornado300 He said, "And that's when I knew... that he loved me, and I loved him."

  • I can't thank you enough for putting this back up. It was taken down at some point, and I loved Henson and adored Frank Oz's rememberance of him.

  • @dayas625 Of course! I didn't know it WAS on here at some point. But when I found this on another site, I looked for it on Youtube and couldn't find it. So I thought it would get shared more if it was on Youtube.

  • Someday they'll make a movie about Jim Henson and his muppets.

  • 3:02 WOAH

  • I was planning to upload this (among others) when I got the DVD of Jim's memorial, but I saw you already did. Thanks.

  • @Fragglevision Oh! By all means, please do still upload anything you want. The more the merrier! I didn't know there was a DVD. That's interesting.

  • Why did he need naked shots again?

Aww this was so cute and sad. TuT

  • @Mslolibear Jim seemed just an artist like that.

  • His normal voice sounds like Bert. Seriously though, I miss Jim I wish he was still alive then he could get rid of that glory hog Elmo

  • @dorourke105 I'm fine with Elmo in small doses. I like him outside of Elmo's world. But you're right, I'm sure Bert's voice and character comes to him naturally. Well more naturally with Jim performing Ernie than Steve, they just had that chemistry.

  • @dorourke105 He Playes Bert (1969-1991)

  • @karim2324 well technically, he actually still voices Cookie Monster, Grover & Bert nowadays.

  • @TheaterServant No he doesn't. Eric Jacobson does that now.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO actually yeah he does. He doesn't voice his Muppet Show characters anymore it's true. He wanted to really focus on directing but he does find time to voice his primary Sesame Street characters a few times every year

  • @TheaterServant If I am not mistaken, 2008 was the last time he did anything Muppet related. Eric Jacobson has taken over Grover, Bert, and all of Oz's Sesame characters as well.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO actually, 1999 was the last time he did anything realted to the Muppets but he voices his main Sesame Street characters, apparently, as I read on the Muppet Wiki, 4 or 5 times a year. & technically David Rudman took over as the voice of Cookie Monster so there could be some more interaction between him, Grover & Bert but the point is that Frank Oz isn't completely retired from Sesame Street.

  • Thank you for sharing this, I appreciate JIm's contributions to kids and adults everywhere.

  • @JezebelleX Of Course!
