I was in Arlington Heights and the sirens didn't go off. I was scared shitless when it hit though. I grabbed my dogs and ran into the basement. Then I heard rumbling and the sirens went off, so I got under a desk with them.
Dude I was at a skatepark on this day in Home wood Illinois. The storm camed and all my friends leftAnd i was there alone with no ride home. Shit was scart
I remember that day it was really nasty my power whent out from the first storm and when the next one came by I didnt know untill I herd thunder and herd the sirens go off. I live in tinley park.
i live in oak forest and theres alot of big trees and stuff in the area and they were laying all over the street. power was going on and off all night from it. then the second round lightning struck a tree and it fell on the wires again and completely knocked power out
i witnessed this storm in schaumburg, IL. (northwest suburb)i was outside with my baseball bat hitting baseballs this day. Then me and my neighbor saw black clouds rotating in the sky. then about 10 minutes later i saw black/green clouds from the northwest with A LOT of lightning. 5 minutes later it became mass chaos. Most lightning and thunder i've ever seen.
Well, What I recommend doing is getting a NOAA Weather Radio and getting a GUARDIAN Home Standby Generator for your home. We have one and during this storm, our whole neighborhood was blacked out except for us!
@AlexplusChris wow, lucky me, I live in the UK, with the least tornadoes in Europe, but in places like Germany, they are more possiblie but still rare. Also, the best of luck to everyone in the U.S who are suffering from tornadoes
The power in my house only flickered, where as it went totaly out across the street right after the power flash. For some reason the power on my side of the street goes off about half as much as it does across.
I live just .5 mi southwest of the intersection where the tornado did the damage in Bloomingdale. It was mean, dark pea green and very scary especially when I saw something that looked like a wedge to the northwest of our house. I grabbed my daughter, a radio, my cell phone and some flashlights and hung out under the stairs for the rest of the storm.
My and my buddy were coming up from Columbus, IN to stay the night in Racine, WI. We got into Chicago right as the Tornado hit. I had never seen a tornado before that day, let alone been that far north. Needless to say, we both shit our pants and fled Chicago.
That was awesome how you can see all the power go out in the houses after that power transformer was hit by lightning. My grandfather's house is near Archer and Central, is that nearby to you?
You can see at about :12 the lightning turned from light blue to blueish-green. That was the one of the power grids being hit by lightning. I know that color because when that tornado in June hit my town (Monee, IL). The tornado hit the power grid and the side of the tornado turned blueish-green.
that storm was some scary shit... i live in the palos area... we were singing happy birthday to my dad and my boyfriend called: "Hey do you hear the tornado sirens?" and i was like what?? so i walked outside and sure enough... they sky was green and they were goin off. we had no clue!! haha.
Man!! This storm was so scary i stared to run down to the basement because the wind and rain slam toward my windom. The lighting and thunder was amazing and a wild .
Pretty windy in the Windy City, and stormy, too - wow. Incredible lightning! Have friends there, they said it was crazy all night. Great capture - adding to "StormChase" playlist.

I would recommend moving to Europe. They have tornadoes like Miami has snow.

Did your Power Ever Go Out?
tornadodude85 3 years ago
it does look like the power died, because i thought i saw his lights flickering, and if you looked across the street, i was almost pitch black.
