  • @bobgatzen the double pedal b.o.a.; sorry my english isn't the best

  • hey bob are you totally sure they will re-realise thos double? because i really want it

  • @ghostfish94 I'm sorry ghost...please refresh my memory...re-realize double?

  • Les is best... that's what i always say when I watch Primus videos xD

  • @c0d3x001 AMEN!.....Thanks cO!

  • Why were these taken off the market? Were they not selling? It seems like a unique and innovative design.

  • @jwatanabe90 Yes, the BOA is temporarily off the market. We are planning a 2012 re-release with new goodies!!!

  • @bobgatzen - BOA Longboard Pedals? And a BOA Hi-Hat with detachable legs and a bass drum clamp? This would be great for double bass drummers. Why not? That could easily be DW's answer to Axis Pedals, Trick Pedals, the Tama Speed Cobra, and the Pearl Demon Drive Pedals.

  • "American made". By Mexican guys!

In all seriousness, why does PDP and DW not market these pedals more? They could be competing with AXIS and Trick if they did it right and presented them to the extreme metal drumming community. By the way Bob, your tuning videos helped me out a bunch and got me on the right track to maintaining my kits sound. Thanks for making these videos.

  • @drumsistkrieg1349 BIG thanks D. The BOA is one of my fave inventions... close to my heart. We are talking about a re-release in 2012. However, It wouldn't hurt if you to forward your original message to DW.

  • I cant wait for these to come back, cause I cant find a double anywhere.

  • Does anyone know for sure if they are bringing this pedal back this year?? I really hope so!!!

  • @drumosaur We hope to have back in the industry before years end. Fell free to contact me for updates D.

  • Yo Bob...you have an awesome mind my friend. The world thanks you for all you have done for drums.

    So my big question is,

being there is 'nothing in the high-hat..."

    Does that mean its CHEAPER?

    Haha.

You rock. This pedal is freaky.

  • @jimothy2391 tahnk you very, very much Jim! The freakier the better as far as I'm concerned LOL!

  • Bob? I love ya, man. You've done a great service to my playing and overall drum/drumming knowledge. But I'll be honest. This was more of a "look at this cool stuff. . .take our word for it, it's cool." kinda thing.

Point in fact. .. ."you see there's nothing in there. . "

I understand there's no springs. . .but what is in there? how does it work? The video did not show that.

  • @BeakerArk Big Thanks Beaker! The footboard itself is made out of a high tensile material, like a modern bow and arrow. This technique offers more tension adjustments and lasts forever! The material is shaved down at the back end of the board. The more the pedal is extended is less tension and vice versa is more.

  • Bob? I love ya, man. You've done a great service to my playing and overall drum/drumming knowledge. But I'll be honest. This was more of a "look at this cool stuff. . .take our word for it, it's cool." kinda thing.

I understand there's no springs. . .but what is in there? how does it work?

  • Can I adjust the spring tension?

  • @abacacus Totally... very much so!

  • @bobgatzen

But doesn't the Boa not really have springs? I thought it was just the footboard flexing? I could be missing something in the video but I don't really see HOW you would go about changing the tension.

  • @abacacus Yes, you are correct, it is in the boards flexing capability. Adjustments are made by sliding the board forward (less tension) or backwards (high tension) by loosening the back-holding plate positioned in front of the heel plate. Take a closer look, you'll see the 2-hold-down screws located on the 1x2" plate

  • @bobgatzen

I see now... very interesting system. Shame it's out of production right now, I need a new double pedal within the next two months and the B.O.A. is interesting to say the least.

  • @abacacus Our plan is to bring it back in 2011

  • how much r these pedals and were can i buy them?

  • @JUANito993 The BOA single & double pedals are temporarily out of production. We are updating the design for a 2011 release date. The HH and Practice pedals are currently available. I suggest writing DW online for pricing and purchasing.Let them know you spoke to me on YT. Thanks for your interest in the BOA juan!

  • Why did you guys choose PDP to hold the B.O.A name? Interesting... I'd think since it looks so amazing it would hold the Dw name, as well as because they are manufactured in Oxnard, and Pacific is in Mexico... Is there a specific reason? :D

  • @Salzcamino Long story but the short of it is...I agree with you. Imagine sitting at a table woth 10 people discussing how to present the BOA pedal. Opinions are flying the place. The majority thought it would be st placed in the pDP line that young upcoming drummers would embrace versus the tried & true DW pedals that veteran drummers hold onto.

  • Can anyone tell me if they are any better than my Axis Longboards?

  • @iplaywithnoshoes 2 different animals. The primary difference is in the method of propulsion...coil spring versus the "leaf" spring design which is the pedal board itself. The only way to know what works for you is to test them side by side to see what floats YOU boat.

    Bob

  • dw is the worst drums i ever heard

  • @2152808483 You're kidding yourself aren't you?

  • Wow, you invented the B.O.A.? I've been using on for a while and I really love it (It's duking it out for rights to play with my DW 7002P, another great petal for totally different reasons). Hats off to you! :D

  • Great to hear that. I'll pass your comment on to the folks at DW

    Thanks!

  • I'm R & D so I'm not hip to product availability, dealers, on-line sales etc. Best to write DW online for info.

  • Wow, look like Bob answer all the question. : )

I stop by and tried the BOA pedal the other day too bad the sale doesn't have any idea how to adjust it and the hardcore beater. (I am in Thailand)

  • Unfortunately that's the risk one takes with "innovative" product designs. We are going to shoot an complete instructional DVD on the BOA that will be package with the pedal.

  • WOW, you actually do answer all. :-)

  • YouTube is my version of Facebook / Myspace. I like shooting videos and enjoy the format more than any other one's I've tried. Why not... huh?

  • God these pedals must play like a breeze, for some reason I know there better than the Axis pedals or anything else.. How much would the dubble pedal cost in Europe? Holland to be precise.

  • Hi Jop

Yes, they are very fast...Marco loves the BOA. I'm not certain of the pricing overseas. I suggest writing to DW 0nline for pricing. Please let me know how it works out.

    Bob

  • Best to write DW online for info. Wish I could help you but I not familar with overseas sales.

  • @bobgatzen Did that, told me to check at stores here, so I'll do that sooner or later :).

  • how about the Dw pedals. like the 9000 and the 7000? do they make those in lefty. cause i know they make the 5000.

  • Yes they do but not certain it's available on all 3 product lines. Best to visit DW online and ask them directly. Pretty sure the lefty is available on the 5000 line.

  • Bob, im a lefty drummer. do they make the b.o.a in a double pedal for leftys?

  • Not at this time, but it's on the wish list

  • You can use any beater on this pedal right?

  • another question, does that spring of the foot board ever loose strength? or will it always be springy forever?

  • Durability of BOA footboard is goes far beyond the traditional steel spring. I have prototypes from 5-6 years ago that feel exactly the same as they did then. In fact, if you take a close look at my HH on the video, "HEAR WE GO", you'll see it is one of the original prototypes from that era.

  • Yes, but the BOA beater has a longer beater (cylinder) than most traditional beaters. This feature makes the BOA feel even batter.

  • ya i figure its a good beater, but i have like 3 other beaters and it would be waste if i couldnt use them on this pedal.... back to my other question, does the foot board never lose its springiness or 10 years later will it not be as strong as it was new, like what happens to normal springs on a regular pedal?

  • bob you're an absolute inspiration. an amazing drummer, a dedicated teacher and an innovative inventor.

  • Now you're making me blush... thank you so much.

  • just wondering bob are these pedels going to be out in stores soon?

  • Currently, distribution is sporadic, best to contact DW online for your nearest dealer.

  • hey bob, do u know where to order DW drum sets? i cant find them custom made for me, is it possible that i can call DW and tell them what i need? please answer everything i need to order

  • You can customize a kit on DW's site. They will steer you to a dealer upon your request.

  • oh ok thanxxxx so much!!!

  • You're very welcome!

  • Thanks bob for being an inspiration in the drumming community.

  • Thank you very much steam...I try to do my best to support our little community

  • hey bob, I wanted to ask about similarities between the BOA practice Pedal and the Pedals themselves. Basically, how similar is the feel Im sure its the exact same Flextech footboard but where do the differences lie when the concept of a beater and rebound come into play? I know theyre very adjustable but I wanted to hear it from the man himself!

  • Like most practice devices, it doesn't fully simulate striking a bass drum head. But it does put specific muscles to work that provide accuracy and definition from foot and leg action. Plus they are very portable, adjustable feel and sound-wise. If you work a desk job you can put em under the desk while taking care of business!!

  • wat is the point of having a gong drum?

  • Gong drum...where?

  • wow realy? its on his left of the kit

  • ☻/

This is BOB copy and paste him and soon he will take over youtube

  • Wow, how cool. How did you design the Bob figure?

BTW... looks like I put on a few pounds... better add another couple of miles onto my runs!! Thanks LOL!!!!

  • character map on the pc

  • thanks B!

  • legdendary

  • Marco sure is!

  • Is there a chance of you and Marco putting on the Orange space suites and doing some blazing drumming together?

  • Do they make that for lefties? Im a left footed player and i use a lame pearl p1002L. Or does DW make any lefty pedal?

  • DW makes a lefty in the DW line. We are working on a BOA lefty as we speak. You could write DW online and ask when it is scheduled for release.

  • thanks bob. love your tuning videos by the way. especially the ott

  • You're welcome and thanks back for taking the time to write and listen

  • When it is ready I will buy one!!!!

  • Great vid!! Id love to work there... :)

"We are all drummers here, we dont hire guitar players"

    Classic!

And Marco Minnemann....I look up to drummers like him

  • Thanks for writing! Both Marco and myself appreciate it!

  • Is the BOA pedal system patented? or is it gonna be stolen by every other company in the coming months?

  • BIG time! there are 4 individual patents on it.

  • That's good PDP and DW did an amazing job with it

  • DW is a drum company run by drummers. It's a great place to visit and be a part of...it's drummer's drum company

  • Yes, more props towards Bob. Super informative stuff man, Keep it up!!!

  • Thanks for the encouragement. It 's messages like yours that keep me motivated!

  • what was bob gatzen part of ive seen him before in his drum videos but i dont know what hes done

  • man i never new these things before i started to whach your vids and i have to say they r the best i have come accross so far. i have been drumming for 12 years and no one has explaned it as well as u do. so thanks you soo much buddy. TC

    Brad : P)

  • That is so good to hear. I'm working very hard at utilizing YT to keep drummers at the drums. Thank you TC!

  • Bob, I became an admirer/fan of yours overnight!

Anyway, any clue of the song used in the video? Just curious.

Love your attitude and commitment and truthfulness towards the drums, take care! :)

  • Thanks so much jesse! I believe it's one of Marco's tunes. He's a prolific song writer. He plays guitar as well as the drums... talk about versatility!

  • if you're talking about the song that starts at :42 and goes for the almost the whole thing the song is

    BLACK, by sevendust

  • how do these compare to DW's 9000 series?

  • Different feel and response. Faster return rate, more of the drum feel in the pedal and dead silent. It's not apples to oranges... more like different shades of red. You have to try one out for a couple of weeks than go back to the 9000 and compare

  • Homer Simpson stylee drool Equipment I can only dream of owning ;0(

  • In our little drum world dreams come true...keep on dreamin'!

  • Bob, do you know the name of that finish on the kit that Marco uses at the beginning?

  • Sorry not a clue. I'll bet DW lists it on their site.

  • Purple Burst over Birdseye I think?

  • Not sure how to respond. Personally, I'm a "gotta try the latest innovation" I've had good & bad experiences but it keeps my mind open and fresh

  • Snakes?

  • does the boa pedal have good speed to it ???

  • that's what Marco likes best about the BOA... quiet and fast

  • and another thing, how can an artist become an official endorser of a product line, like being an official endorser of DW drums? thank you!

  • The DW line utilizes much more "hand-crafting in regards to bearing edges and finishes. Once it gets out of "automated" production process retail pricing quickly increases.

  • Endorsements are based on value. Basically you have to ask yourself, "What value can I be to this company". It's not about what the company can do for you, it's what you can do for the company.

  • i see, but does it involve getting registered, papers, documents, and stuffs like that? i mean there is this guy here in our place and he says he's an endorser of a drum line and i was like, "what the? is he serious?" haha thank you!

  • its a good thing sir bob gatzen is here. sir i have a question about DW drums, please answer me honestly. why are DW drums so expensive? my friend wanted to buy one but since its too expensive he got another drum instead. T_T thank you

  • I have the iron cobra and the B.O.A.

the iron hits hard and the beaters I really like 'em...

    but thats all.

the B.O.A. hits hard and the beaters are really good it is smooth and the board is big enough to fit my feet (I really wish a longboard though) the B.O.A. is way better than the iron, well in my opinion.

the iron is in its case since I bought the B.O.A.

  • At this very moment, I have smile on my face...thanks now

  • marco doesnt use BOA. he use DW pedals

  • He switch to the BOA about a year ago. There's been 2 page adds in all the industry mags announcing his switch.

  • i have ordered the boa double pedal after trying the single pedal version. it will drive a 20x23 bass drum. i used to play an axis and i like the action very much.

  • Great, please let us know your verdict

  • Hey! whats up? I have a single and a set of double IronCobra pedals! I also have the IronCobra HiHats pedal stand. They are GREAT but the hats have this "clong" that I hate! lots of hats pedals do this.

TAMA and DW share the same pattented hardware techs that they got from an other sinking company long ago but TAMA's HW is by far one of the best. Hands down.

I have the double pedal collecting dust here in its case! I'm a single pedal player and can't get into the double pedal haha!

  • heheh BOA!! Hey Bob so I should kill my Cobra and get to the BOA... I would like to get rid off the clang of the hihat stand.. !!

Thank goodness this BOA does not constrict ;)

I have not tried this yet! Will soon.

  • omg i wish i had that double pedal and hi-hat stand! but i can't find em anywhere, and i don't have the money for it, but man! i can't wait till i can get em!

  • I share your excitement! If you decide to jump you can find dealers on-line @ DW

  • do you think you can make a long board version? i have an idea for a drumming product. howd you go about pattening your pedal and how much did it cost?

  • i would think you could make a longboard line even w heals; just elongate the pedal surface! i dont want to go back to a short surface. can leftys use the boa dbl?

  • We will be releasing a lefty BOA dbl very soon

  • It's not on the agenda at this time... not enough requests.

You can always take out a "utility" patent for (1) year to test the waters. However, when the year is up you must make a decision whether or not to fully protect your idea. The $'s spent on a U-Patent (1-2k) is throw-away when you renew. I fully patent my products and generally license them to companies. Good luck with your ideas...keep em coming!

  • Hey i was wondering i am a student going through marketing courses and planning to go into this feild as well as have a great drum idea and i was wondering how someone gets a job with DW or any type of drum company cause that would be my dream as with every other drummer

  • Employment is a lot like an endorsement. You have to ask yourself "What value would I be to this company?" Certainly, personality is important. A dedicated, driven people friendly profile is of great value. Also, experience, notoriety, special talent in the industry can make the difference between yes and no. It's all about value. My approach is what I can do for a company more than what the company can do for me"

  • Awesome video Bob! I had a chance to play with Marco earlier this year and the BOA pedals felt terrific! Very responsive and lots of power!

  • Thanks s. I like your profile... dedicated "hobby" drummer that cares. Keep it up!

  • Hey Bob! I was wondering if this pedal used the same direct link concept similiar to what Axis pedals use. And I was wondering how do these BOA pedals compare to the Axis in price, speed and response? Thanks.

  • Primary difference is in the spring mechanism. With the pedal board itself being the spring, less components are utilized simplifying overall design. This especially true in the Hi-Hat.Less parts, less opportunity for break-down. Also, the feel is unique, very fast, smooth & quiet. The BOA spring has a very fast return rate...as fast as you can get your foot off the board.

  • It's something i don't understand. Are DW and pdp working together about this pedals? Because I thought DW wanted to be the best, like they're making competition for themself?

  • The decision to release the BOA as a PDP product was based on the younger generation's willingness to try new & Innovative products. The quality of the BOA pedal is in no way compromised by it's branding. Call it what you want...DW...PDP? Doesn't matter.

  • Ok. Do you know that Marco Minnemann thinks it easyer to play fast on these pedals? I think I want to buy some BOA double pedals.

  • He claims yes on speed & precision

  • I get depressed each time I see a DW kit....because the Price Tag stings me soooo much! lol....anyways I want to get a BOA single pedal...

  • I know how you feel.. keep your chin up, you'll make it happen

  • Thanks!

  • Gee, and I thought I had a bargain for also a slightly used pedal for $140... It was still cheap considdering the for me very cheap dollar (I live in Europe)

  • I mean a slightly used BOA for 140 bucks

  • those are pretty cool. ive seen one but never played one. it has no spring, so does it ever wear out?

  • The pedal board/spring is unbelievably durable. However, if it fails, it's easy to replace and relatively inexpensive. We've not had a single failure yet...shhh!! don't want to jinx it

  • ok. that sounds great. how much can i get one for. My current pedal that i have now was lightly used and i got it for about 80 bucks.

  • 80 bucks... you stole it! The single BOA retails at about the same price as a DW 5000.

  • yeahh i think i did kinda steal it. i still dont know what kind it. What do yuo know about MI? that music school in hollywood.

  • Hi Bob,

I received a BOA today and I must say, it's the smoothest pedal I ever played (and I play for over 30 years) Searching the internet I came across one forum on which someone was really enthousiatic about the pedal until he broke the footboard and got no service from DW. I hope it doen't happen to me......Up till now I really enjoy it and hope to do so many years.

  • Not to worry, the BOA is very, very durable. Marco is touring with a speed metal group right now. He's had no problems what so ever and loves the BOA system.

  • i want a BOA:P working for a drum company is like the best job you could have.

  • Thank you! I have to say... it sure doesn't suck lol!

  • Thats awsome i cant wait to buy one. i live in winnipeg canada do you have any idea when they are comeing this way. i was talking to my local drum shop. they know there comeing i just cant wait lol

  • Very nice... glad to hear Sevendust on the video! Morgan Rose is a great drummer!

Btw Bob your videos are very helpful!

  • Thanks z

  • respect to the average joe who assembles these for us aspiring drummers n of course bob "never grumpy" gatzen!

  • Thanks Dominick. "Never Grumpy"...I like that! Typically most artists, creatives have a dark side, as do I. The difference is, I try to keep it to myself. There's enough negativity in our world without me contributing to it.

  • 535$ cnd

  • This would be like a wet dream, as a technology major and as a drummer. I have got to go there some time!!! Thanks for posting.

  • I can't wait to buy the double pedal! Thank you so much Bob, for re-inventing the pedal! Oh yea, and i liked the background soundtrack ;). (Sevendust-"Black")

  • Your welcome...thanks for hipping me to Sevendust

  • at first I was confused about the BOA pedals...now that I understand it a little more, I get it.

  • Good news is good!

  • duuuuude. i want to get a set of these for my next set.

  • Smooth ! ! !

  • Thanks Skeeb... trying to get back in the video pocket...it's a juggling act!

  • Thanx for a look inside the DW workshop. You rock Bob!!!!.....So does Marco!!!!

  • Thank you e

  • o m g bob you are my best friend when i fell given up you post a vid and save my music life

  • Angel, your message really touches me. Sounds corny but i really care about people's passion...holding onto it.

  • This is a great video. You should do a whole series on talking about the equiptment you use and why and then taking a tour of the factory.

  • Good idea... now see what you've done... just what I need something else to think about lol! Thansk d

  • Yeah this reminds me of the 'kiss pinciple' which is keep it simple and simple things work. Thats why the simple things are what we miss.

  • dude that guy is amazazing

  • HAHAHAHA AWESOME ENDING..and i wish i had a tour of DW's factory..i hope to own a DW kit soon
