OK, This case still has not gone to court but they expect it to be docketed by the end of this year. On another note the family of one of the victims has just settled their civil suit against the Town and the Police Department for 2.5 million dollars
The number at the top next to the S(s for speed) shows how fast the cop car videotaping it was going. He was going 55ish at the beginning, gradually increasing. The other cop passed him, and you can see he tried to accelerate, reaching 72 mph, himself, before finally breaking when they crashed.

@4fox85 , Wrong. Emergency personel are allowed to go over the speed limit whenever there is a need to respond quickly. The use of the lights and siren is only a request for 'right of way'. Whenever they respond, they are to use "due regards" for the safety of everyone and sometimes the responder makes the decision to operate the emergency lighting or not. This actually has nothing to do with this particular incident as the officer was not enroute to a call. He was playing.
If a civilian is drag racing another civilian & someone is killed BOTH drivers are charged with felony murder. Just like all police do they cover up the crime as much as they can. Cops speed without any just cause and that is why things like this happen. In Douglas, GA a Sheriff was racing to non-emergency call at 100+ with a ride-a-long in the car. The story was he swerved to miss a deer, flipped and rolled, killing the ride-a-long.

94MPH in a ford crown victoria with police tires, driving on city streets, through intersections, WITH NO LIGHTS and NO SIRENS is completely criminal. Even with lights and sirens, thats WAAAYYYY too fast. There is no time to react or slow down. Notice the cop just slammed on his brakes and didn't even try to avoid him. There was very little reaction time. Drunk or not, those teenagers would have died from such a tremendous impact. That cop is criminally reckless and negligent. End of story.

@cimasgro The only reason it is the cops fault is because he was going almost 100 mph with no lights. I almost had an accident a few weeks ago turning left with a pick up truck coming at me. It appeared that I had plenty of time but this guy was going at least 60 ( a conservative guess) in a 35mph zone. He came at me so fast I almost didn't have time to react. We would both have been at fault, me for not yielding and him for going at least 25 miles over the speed limit.

May be a bad accident but its almost like karma. 2 underage teens drunk driving and they happen to die in this accident. Who knows if they would of done harm but the fact they did it means they have the potential too and didn't care about the possibility of it happening, they just wanted to have their fun. Man this is a sad situation. 2 lives lost and many ruined. The police officer was wrong. For one, they aren't premitted to drive any speed limit they wish. 94 is excessive . For two, they CANNOT break the speed limit without their lights on. Its very likely that if the lights had been flashing, those kids would have waited to make their turn and would be alive today.

No people. He was driving normally. In connecticut the cops don't ticket anyone for traffic offenses like running people off of the road. All he needs is a jury to say that the other car didn't turn fast enough. I have actually heard people here complain about people pulling into traffic not doing so fast enough. The same idiots here who drive 30-40 mph over the speed limit everywhere and who tailgate like crazy. Hope the cop gets off to make a statement about CT drivers.

This is a rare case when both parties are at fault but since the officer is an authorative figure that knows better then most, I blame him. Now had he actually been on a urgent call with his lights on, the two kids would of been 100% at fault. Not to mention the two teens were legally drunk on their way to Target for what reason at that time of night????
They dont need to have lights nor sirens on.. it all depends on the call they recieve... but from the looks of it they must of beeen going to another call since the camaras only come on when some kind of alert is on.. if those two kids werent drunk then they would of seen them speeding and known that they werent gonna make the turn...

You have to stop and wait untill the intersection is clear. Expecially at night even iff the distance apears to be far you have no way to judge speed. Ct. State law states that speed limits are the highest allowable speeds under "ideal" driving conditions..
Night time is not "ideal" driving conditions are prescribed by CT. DMV..
Hence. if the speedlimit is 40 during the day time, it is much lower at night.. Plus the flashing yellow light means to slow down and proceed with caution.. It is obvious that the Officer didn't do that..
They did, but when you're moving at 94 MPH you can cover the lenght of a football field in less than a second..
From where they stood, it appeared that they had enough room to cross.. They had the right to cross... Judging from how far the police car was away they had every right to cross,,, If the police cruiser was going the speed limit, they would have had plenty time to cross...
On top of that the teen failed to use her turn signal. Like probably 50% of drivers dont use them.. Her blinker and this cop not being Neglegant could have avoided this horrible tragedy.

@4fox85 , Wrong. Emergency personel are allowed to go over the speed limit whenever there is a need to respond quickly. The use of the lights and siren is only a request for 'right of way'. Whenever they respond, they are to use "due regards" for the safety of everyone and sometimes the responder makes the decision to operate the emergency lighting or not. This actually has nothing to do with this particular incident as the officer was not enroute to a call. He was playing.

Cops speed without any just cause and that is why things like this happen. In Douglas, GA a Sheriff was racing to non-emergency call at 100+ with a ride-a-long in the car. The story was he swerved to miss a deer, flipped and rolled, killing the ride-a-long.

94MPH in a ford crown victoria with police tires, driving on city streets, through intersections, WITH NO LIGHTS and NO SIRENS is completely criminal. Even with lights and sirens, thats WAAAYYYY too fast. There is no time to react or slow down. Notice the cop just slammed on his brakes and didn't even try to avoid him. There was very little reaction time. Drunk or not, those teenagers would have died from such a tremendous impact. That cop is criminally reckless and negligent. End of story.

@cimasgro The only reason it is the cops fault is because he was going almost 100 mph with no lights. I almost had an accident a few weeks ago turning left with a pick up truck coming at me. It appeared that I had plenty of time but this guy was going at least 60 ( a conservative guess) in a 35mph zone. He came at me so fast I almost didn't have time to react. We would both have been at fault, me for not yielding and him for going at least 25 miles over the speed limit.

The fact is that when a car is driving 94 miles an hour on a street that has a speed limit around 40-45 (correct me if I'm wrong) There is no way to yield properly. Even a sober person might not have seen a car approaching that fast. If the cop had his lights on oncoming traffic would be able to see them further down the road. Also the cop was leaving a call not responding, he had no reason to be driving that fast.

May be a bad accident but its almost like karma. 2 underage teens drunk driving and they happen to die in this accident. Who knows if they would of done harm but the fact they did it means they have the potential too and didn't care about the possibility of it happening, they just wanted to have their fun. At least we know they wont be driving drunk again. thats 1 for sure and possibly 2 drunk drivers off the road, permanently. Also reckless cop goes down, its a win win.

Man this is a sad situation. 2 lives lost and many ruined. The police officer was wrong. For one, they aren't premitted to drive any speed limit they wish. 94 is excessive . For two, they CANNOT break the speed limit without their lights on. Its very likely that if the lights had been flashing, those kids would have waited to make their turn and would be alive today.

No people. He was driving normally. In connecticut the cops don't ticket anyone for traffic offenses like running people off of the road. All he needs is a jury to say that the other car didn't turn fast enough. I have actually heard people here complain about people pulling into traffic not doing so fast enough. The same idiots here who drive 30-40 mph over the speed limit everywhere and who tailgate like crazy. Hope the cop gets off to make a statement about CT drivers.

This is a rare case when both parties are at fault but since the officer is an authorative figure that knows better then most, I blame him. Now had he actually been on a urgent call with his lights on, the two kids would of been 100% at fault. Not to mention the two teens were legally drunk on their way to Target for what reason at that time of night????

Yeild right of way thats what im talking about.. Right the cop was moveing very fast.. But by law if you see triffic aproaching you while your going to turn left.;. You have to stop and wait untill the intersection is clear. Expecially at night even iff the distance apears to be far you have no way to judge speed. I bet even if his lights were on the distance she saw she would of done the same.. In the video i see the teen turn left as there was no cars aproaching the intersection at all.

Yes.. It does advise caution flashing yellow. But The teen did not yeild right of way. Here in VT intersections dont have flashing yellow lights Left turn only lanes.. It goes through green, amber, red.. So maybe its the combination of shitty driving Of both cop and a retarded state.. The fact is there are many factors invovled. Both are at fault as far as by law.. Stupid comparison. Cops are cops, and are expected to adhere to the law a lot more than a 16 to 24 white male who is not a cop.
And yes, all cops are assholes. If not all, then 99.9%. Not because of this, because of this plus the thousands of other situations where cops have broken the law. Because of the Rampart Scandal and their ratio of bad cops they discovered, and the likelihood that most other precincts would have a similar ratio. Mathematically, its more probable that most are assholes.

I'm not rebuting your claim with an opinion...I'm speaking from experience. Make no mistake this cop damaged lives without repair, I"m simply stating your statistical information is false! You perceive officers as assholes because you don't live the life of an officer. You have no idea what they do..let's keep it at that! Furthermore, there are assholes in every perfession! The problem with a police officer is that he sticks out like a sore thumb because he/she is always in the publics eye!

Now I would love to tell stories about how my best friends Uncle owns a donut shop after he was fired for misconduct from the Tampa Police, and I would love to tell you all the stories about how he shuts the shop down at night and all his cop buddies come over and hang out with us, and how I pretend to get along with them, but realize they are complete shitheads who break the law more than me.I would love to talk about that, but thats not statistics, thats one group of cops, in 1 town

I would love to tell you how the chief of police for our town is sitting in jail right now on forgery charges, how a deputy under him is in prison right now for raping a handcuffed girl in his backseat, and how another cop in our town is in jail for stalking. Love to tell you about how 2 cops in our town were suspended for spending time hanging out in a porno store while on duty, or how they killed a man by tazering him last year. All of this, in a town with a population of 40,000, in 2 years.

I'd love to tell you all the stories I have about cops and all my personal experiences, but then we'd be here all day. All of that is not statistics, just tales of cops in 1 town in america.
Rampart...however...is statistics. That was 99% of a police department, found guilty of misconduct. 70 officers were named in that, 70. So if thats one department, and my town is one department, whats the next town over like? Im willing to be cops are corrupt everywhere. Only a few are not.

A person walks into a store and steals a shirt, that's bad. But when the store security who is in charge of catching those people steals a shirt, that's worse. Ct. State law states that speed limits are the highest allowable speeds under "ideal" driving conditions..
Night time is not "ideal" driving conditions are prescribed by CT. DMV..
Hence. if the speedlimit is 40 during the day time, it is much lower at night.. Plus the flashing yellow light means to slow down and proceed with caution.. It is obvious that the Officer didn't do that..

They did, but when you're moving at 94 MPH you can cover the lenght of a football field in less than a second..
From where they stood, it appeared that they had enough room to cross.. They had the right to cross... Judging from how far the police car was away they had every right to cross,,, If the police cruiser was going the speed limit, they would have had plenty time to cross...

On top of that the teen failed to use her turn signal. Like probably 50% of drivers dont use them.. Her blinker and this cop not being Neglegant could have avoided this horrible tragedy.

I would disagree...from where the DRUNK DRIVER was, his judgment would not be accurate either way. Yea, judgment is the first thing to go when you start drinking and especially at 1.5 times the legal limit.
