Did they ever fix the chine problem? A friend had an '86, and it had a great wake with a short flat table, but it was a dangerous, especially if you were a beginner. As you gradually start a turn, it would at some point roll up on an edge and then would not turn any more, but would go in a straight line up on that edge, wherever you happen to be pointing when it rolled. If you were headed for shore you had to pull into neutral. It required a specific poweron turning style.
a note for all you malibuers l if your power wedge will not return to the upright position check the circuit breakers under heater 2 it also powers the hydraulics for the power wedge
@SeeNanners I have to agree with you on that. I ride behind a 2008 v -ride and a 2010 wakesetter. The v-ride's wedge its probably similar to yours only making up for 500lbs of ballast. But for 2010 they've seems like refined the wedge because its very close to making up for 1200lbs of ballast. Its very easy to see when you wakesurf, the wake is much bigger than the v -ride.
The wedge is just acting like a convention hydrofoil in reverse. instead of lifting the hull to reduce wetted surface area its effectively pulling it down (like ballast) to increase the amount of water displaced and therefore increase the size of the wake. however its the hull form itself forward of the planning surface that determines the wake shape.
The 2 inch gauge is a Lie never worked never will. Factory tech and 2 local dealers tried and can't get it to work right. Buy the wedge buy a snorkel to see where it's at
The wedge controls the steepness of the wake and the ramp length of the wake, but they ballast makes the wake larger all around by sinking the boat into the water with the added weight.

@StArFoX888DraGoN I own an 07 Wakesetter VTX, and I don't believe the Wedge makes up for 1200lbs of ballast. I would personally say 500lbs max.

Design idea: Lets find a way to rip off the back of a boat and make it look like a sky ski...

solid, so does malibu use this instead of a ballast?
gurubomb 3 years ago
no, ballast can be added with the MLS (Malibu Launch System) to make a sicker wake
calamarmtz 3 years ago
so i know how each works but how do they individually affect the wake. does like the ballast make it wider while the power wedge makes it bigger?
lotsoffun 3 years ago
they basically work together to make the biggest and best wake you could possibly get.
