  • xfire: DeNL82 if u ever want Me to train You in Quake 2. I had mastered Quake 2 on August 31st, 2005,simply 7 years after installing Quake 2 on My "first" computer; of which Quake 2 Mastery of Mine, was brought about by My studying roughly 190, 30 minute recorded demos of My playing of Quake 2's mod, "rocket Arena 2"; by and large, one of the things of which made my studying of these demos, as erudite of a study as it was, was the fact that I had studied these demos 4 or more times each

  • Quake II <3 one of the best games out there still.

  • @DarkShadowRage2 Yep. I'm terrible at the game, and I still have a blast every time I play it online.

  • @teh2Dgamer You aren't that bad, but it's a shame they don't make games like this any more. This game is liquid gold.

  • @DarkShadowRage2 Well, modern online FPS gamers want to be able to hide, and snipe, and get little perks. They can't handle a game as fast and hectic as this is. I personally love games like this, but the new standards are different from the old. Different, but certainly not better IMO.

  • @teh2Dgamer Exactly, these type of games are fun, and I think quake 2 is still one of the fastest FPS games to date. No game has matched it in speed at all IMO. most current gen FPS games are ...like slow as slugs.

  • @DarkShadowRage2 I still don't understand why Halo is so popular aside from the name. From a gameplay standpoint, it's a slower, less fun version of these games. The only difference being vehicles, and different weapon sets. Halo is OK, don't get me wrong, but the slow floaty physics drive me crazy.

  • @teh2Dgamer I'm not much of a halo fan myself, but what I really do hate now a days is the Call of Duty Syndrome, I'm sick of weapon loadouts and perks and "leveling up" to get new weapons. It's just not fun, that load out crap and match making is what killed bioshock 2's Multiplayer on the PC version. PC games should always have a server list, there is no excuse for dumbing it down to it's console counterpart. I miss arena style shooters such as quake and unreal.

  • @DarkShadowRage2 It depends on the game for loadouts. I do like tactical games (like the old R6 series) for their own reasons, but the leveling up thing is cheap IMO. It not only means that the new player is at a disadvantage for not knowing the maps, or how to play the game that well, but they really are at a disadvantage. In quake a newb can still get lucky on a pro, because you all start on level ground, however in MW, the noob has less life, and inferior equiptment. MW takes Less skill 2 pla

  • @teh2Dgamer Yeah, I thought it was retarded on Bioshock 2, I only get a pistol and a shotgun, but i'm seeing higher level players running around with tommy guns and I can't even pick up their guns! it's just really lame :/ I don't want to wait around in a lobby for people to join, I don't want to level up to get better guns. I want everyone to start out with the same stuff and every one have a chance to use all the guns at once. Ala Quake.

  • @DarkShadowRage2 I hate matchmaking myself. In fact, the early console online games didn't have that, they had a similar setup to PC games. As for the different guns, I don't mind people having different guns in tactical games like the old Socom series, because any gun in that game can kill you quick (because there aren't cheap ass superman-perks and you had your choice of all the guns from the start so it was, again, equal), however, I'm not a fan of recent online games because they are cheap

  • i played this game for years & got pretty good at it, i dont play it anymore but i still remember the good times on quake 2 online!!!!

  • How the hell did you get Xfire to record sound? It only records video for me.

  • You open Xfire up, and then you click on the "Tools" tab. Then you click on "Options." THat opens a smaller box where you should see a "Video" tab, and if you look down it should say "Audio device," and there should be a little box that says "Record Sound." Check mark the box, and you should be able to record sounds.

  • Wow, how did I *not* see that before. Oh well, thanks. I might have to buy this off Steam, I played the demo for over 40 hours total or so.

  • how do you play this?

  • You need a copy of the game for starters. I also use Xfire to find servers for the game.

You'll probably have to download a patch or two for the game first.

  • The one and true FPS that still lives on today, I love quake 2

  • man i havnt played for a year...and the server is still up YES im coming back!

  • im actually going on railz right now, if you wanna join me ill be there for a few matches

  • I would, but it's 3 a.m. here, and I'm tired. I'll probably be on tomorrow (or I guess later today) though.

  • yo i watcheed a few of your vids, id have to say your getting better :) come 1vs1 me and ill teach you some shit than youll rape all them nub cakes :):)

  • Actually I'm still very inconsistent in the game. I did decently this round, but in the previous rounds I couldn't get anything going. This was my best round of the day.

I'm not sure I'm ready for 1 vs 1. I'm still pretty new to the game.

Perhaps you could post some "how-to" vids showing off the different techniques in the game.

  • i would love to but i have issues with lag, like i cant do shit while lagging >.> im a big railer, saanyways, that other comment should go here

  • I've got a question, what console command do you put in in order to spectate? I only just today found out how to record a demo (which means that I can use Xfire's screen recorder to record the demo so it doesn't effect my playing in game). How do you spectate, so I could possibly show someone good playing the game?

  • I love the chaingun.

  • I love the Super Shotgun even though I suck with it.

I'd say that it's my favorite weapon in the game. I don't know why, but I find it to be extremely satisfying to use.

  • naw man im talkin about 1vs1 so ppl dont shoot you while i teach you :) if you want we can do it now

  • I can't right now, but some other time perhaps. What's your Quake II name?

  • its Hydrolist, i mostly play tatsyspleen railz

  • Ok. I mainly have just stuck to Tastyspleen DM, but have branched out more lately. I just tried railz for the first time the other day.

I kinda of suck with the rail gun, and though I could use the practice.

If you ever frag DookieCakes, that's me.

The name allows me to suck, but also makes it kind of humorous if I win (of course I've only ever taken first in one round in DM, and I haven't come close since).

  • thats easy, start upany tastlyspleen server, type goto tourney 4, there shouldbe a menu that comes up right away to pick teams, pick speactate, right clicks switch player and lefts switch veiw, and if you wanna see someone good play look for me or a guy named realistic :) youll see some god damn good frags

  • Cool. Thanks.

  • I now regret selling this game at my last yard sale.

on the other hand, its only a dollar on amazon.

  • That's why I never sell my games. You never know when you'll have the urge to play them again.

  • yeah, good point.

  • I always got motion sickness when I played this game, especially on servers where everyone was bunny hopping the shit out of the level.
