it's a different sound - very warm not pingy like the ceramic and not plastic like the fiber glass ones. I cradle it in my left arm slapping the bottom w/ my left hand and working the sound hole w/ my right. I get a very natural kick/snare kind of interplay like this - I'd like to see what a real percussionist could do w/ it.
when cradled like this the drum is close to your ears and you can really appreciate all the deep, bassy nuance that can be applied to the way you strike the sound hole, the problem is that the volume drops way down outside of a small radius. and I found it difficult to get all that nuance onto a recorded track
