it was a good hit the kids helmet fell off which is unfortinate liambis should not be suspended. if there was no injury it would of been fine hes only suspended because how bad the inury sounds on papers
@canadianpaintballboy FINALLY SOME ONE AGREES FANELLIS HELMET STRAP WASNT ON AND ITS NOT LIAMBAS FAULT THAT HE DIDNT HAVE IT ON AND I THINK HE GOT SUSPENDED FOR A EYAR AND THEY WERE GONIG TO CHARGE FOR 7 GRAND MY OLDER SIS KNOWS LIAMBAS
your right but it is also stated in the rule book that if u take more then 3 strides its considered a charge and he started skating from the redline do the math ppl it was dirty but fanelli turned and thats bad!! kids no turning your backs or else bad ass injurys happen luike this one!
it was charging folks, plain and simple. Liambus is coming in at 30 kmh and targets the head, not the torso. Anyone who states otherwise has never played the game. You don't have to be taking "strides" to rule it a charge. Its distance travelled and speed of opponent when you get hit; refs judgement. Get up to top speed, coast for the last 50 feet and slam a guy into the boards? Thats charging. Intent to injure. Hitting is meant to separate an opponent from the puck/ play. This hit is obvious.
Rule 43.1 of the OHL rule book - "Charging shall mean the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner."
No wonder players and fans alike are uncertain about dirty and clean hits. With such a vague description of an infraction, how is a player to even know if he's charging or not? Does he calculate the distance he will travel, factoring in his speed, while he tries to play the game?
At the beginning of the video the hit happens within the first 1 second, within that time the guy shooting the puck turns his back, and the hit is over by the time 2 seconds comes around. So let me get this straight everyone, you think the guy coming in should be able to stop completely within a fraction of a second as the guy turns his back? Face the hit head on, know who's coming, ESPECIALLY when you're going around the net. Woulda been a big clean hit had he just stayed facing forwards.
Yea finally someone knows what the hell they're talking about, its impossible to stop when someone turns at pretty much the same time you hit them. But this is what I see in lots of the leagues from minor hockey to OHL, WHL, defense and forwards turn like pussys, they don't know how to take hits and they think the checker will back off when they turn cause you're not supposed to hit from behind...
this retarded psycho has the rest of the season to sit on his ass. unfortunately he has too many supporters and will probably learn nothing from the experience. wonder if fanelli will be back as soon. serves as a good reminder to kids that consider a career in pro sports: better have something to fall back on in case some idiot decides to end your career early in the blink of an eye.
@elforbez you are a retard, he turned his back at the last second and probably ended his own career. If you ever played a game of hockey in your life you would probably know what it's like when someone turns their back on you when you're about to hit them. You can't just magically stop in a matter of 2 feet from the guy, if he hadn't of turned right before he got hit, he woulda been fine.
haha full speed? Just because you don't know how to skate doesn't mean that was "full speed". Besides, speed has nothing to do with whether a hit is legal or not you idiot. He stopped striding way before he hit him, which means it wasn't charging at all. And It does matter that he turned because if he hadn't, HE WOULDN'T HAVE GOT HURT! Honestly you've probably never set foot on the ice for a hockey game, so why are you arguing anything. Play a game, have a guy turn on you, then we'll talk.
you assume a lot. and why was liambus tossed from the game if it was such a clean play? i guess the refs are idiots too. you see the game through goon eyes. lol
Good one bud, learn some rules first faggot. From the time you learn to hit you learn not to turn your back to a guy coming in, because you'll get hit from behind. Everyone that thinks that this was the dirtiest hit ever needs to give their head a shake. I never said it was a clean play elforbez, my whole point is that it's not worthy of a season long suspension considering it was clearly not only the hitting players fault. redolfo11 you clearly have no opinion worthwhile at all
Your such a fucking idiot. Maybe fanelli did turn his back, but that doesn't mean that its not a dirty hit. He was charging, and clearly was just trying to hurt him. So shut up you plug.
You're a joke bud, he wasn't charging, show me the more than 3 steps he took before he hit him. He was gliding when he hit him, therefore it's not charging. Oh and did he jump? No he didn't. He was skating in to try to hit the guy hard, that's what you do in hockey. You don't skate in quarter speed and hit him like a girl. Learn the rules first then talk faggot lips.
haha you're calling me a name while telling me that I can't comment without resorting to name calling, and then again in your next comment too. But you sound SO smart...right.
That's a hockey play. He should never have turned his shoulder. He thought he would take a lesser hit because he would've been clobbered had he not turned. However, he did not take into account that the player coming at him has no time to react to his changed angle. He did that to himself. A season long suspension for that hit is terrible
dirtiest fucking hit i've ever seen, charging, boarding, elbowing, head check, and if you watched the game liambus smiled after hitting ben...like holy fuck that guy intentionally hit him it wasnt the fsct that his head was down or anything. his back was turned to liambus before he got hit. who knows now just because of a retarded guy pretty much just ended his
shut your fucking mouth dumbass, charging do you even know whats considered charging...he stopped skating b4 he hit him so because he was moving fats u think that....head check fuck off he smashed his head off the boards and hit him with his shoulder....so shut the fuck up and play the game at higher level then fucking road hockey and maybe you will see thats part of the game and a great hit...yeah too bad he got hurt but all people at that level should know not to turn
You may have actually had some good points here but you obviously have a limited vocabulary which meant you needed to swear, rather than sound intelligent when making your points. Too bad.
The guy got hurt. Sad. Thats hockey. It was a hockey hit in a hockey game. I guess for some reason that warrants a full season suspension. Ridiculous. Next thing the police will have an investigation, the crown will file criminal charges and then when we waste 3 million of taxpayers money just for the judge to rule that it was a hockey hit, the civil suit will be launched somewhere way out of the Ontario jurisdiction, like Colorado. Somebody call Steve Moore for some guidance with this one.
Im tired of suspenions being based on the outcome and not of the intent.
All the time in hockey you see players to absolutley dirty things when they hit people, but the person gets up, and thats the end of it, the an accident like this happens where somebody gets knocked out and everybodies up in arms,
there was nothing dirty about that, the guy finished his check and caught the guy, if the player didnt get injured and the guy just got back up nobody would of never said it was dirty
If Fanelli hadn't turned Liambus would have likely been given a charging or something like that.
but
The fact of the matter is he did turn. Yes I feel for the player who was hurt but he started turning past the point of no return. What is Liambus suppose to do when he is less than a foot away from the guy and he starts turning?
As for the suspension its overboard. Probably just dealing with past incidents and its more of a PR thing for the league in general.
Don't think this was a cheap hit but I don't like to see a guy go down like this. This guy finished his check that's all maybe hands a little high and we don't see if he took a run from center ice but the injury doesn't justify the severity of the susp.
Very sad. I hope that Fanelli will be able to play again.
If this hit was clean, he would have put his weight straight into the hit. He would have checked his man. Instead, Liambus put his weight high up on Fanelli, which is uneccesary. In hockey, you play the BODY. Not shoulders and up. There was no reason for him to swipe this guy into the glass. A clean hockey player would have centered his weight on the hit and everybody would have been fine. To clip a guy high and skate away is dirty.
Cheap? Have you ever laid a body check, or even played hockey? I don't know about you, but when I go in to hit a guy, I don't think that I might have to stop. I want to put him on his arse. Fanelli turned at the last possible second and his head hit the boards. The suspension was WAY TOO SEVERE. Fanelli turned his back, period.
Not cheap at all, the guy saw him coming, and turned his back to him, anyone who plays hockey knows that is a dumb idea. They teach you this when you are 8 years old

I am not aware of Liambas past hits ( Dont watch OHL, Go Vancouver GIANTS!), so maybe the suspension he got is deserved if he has done it in the past.
But admit the hit would have been pretty clean (maybe his hands were a bit high) if Fanelli didn't turn his back after seeing Liambas coming.
