it was charging folks, plain and simple. Liambus is coming in at 30 kmh and targets the head, not the torso. Anyone who states otherwise has never played the game. You don't have to be taking "strides" to rule it a charge. Its distance travelled and speed of opponent when you get hit; refs judgement. Get up to top speed, coast for the last 50 feet and slam a guy into the boards? Thats charging. Intent to injure. Hitting is meant to separate an opponent from the puck/ play. This hit is obvious.

Rule 43.1 of the OHL rule book - "Charging shall mean the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner."

No wonder players and fans alike are uncertain about dirty and clean hits. With such a vague description of an infraction, how is a player to even know if he's charging or not? Does he calculate the distance he will travel, factoring in his speed, while he tries to play the game?

At the beginning of the video the hit happens within the first 1 second, within that time the guy shooting the puck turns his back, and the hit is over by the time 2 seconds comes around. So let me get this straight everyone, you think the guy coming in should be able to stop completely within a fraction of a second as the guy turns his back? Face the hit head on, know who's coming, ESPECIALLY when you're going around the net. Woulda been a big clean hit had he just stayed facing forwards.

That's a hockey play. He should never have turned his shoulder. He thought he would take a lesser hit because he would've been clobbered had he not turned. However, he did not take into account that the player coming at him has no time to react to his changed angle. He did that to himself. A season long suspension for that hit is terrible

The guy got hurt. Sad. Thats hockey. It was a hockey hit in a hockey game. I guess for some reason that warrants a full season suspension. Ridiculous. Next thing the police will have an investigation, the crown will file criminal charges and then when we waste 3 million of taxpayers money just for the judge to rule that it was a hockey hit, the civil suit will be launched somewhere way out of the Ontario jurisdiction, like Colorado. The fact of the matter is he did turn. Yes I feel for the player who was hurt but he started turning past the point of no return. What is Liambus suppose to do when he is less than a foot away from the guy and he starts turning?

Don't think this was a cheap hit but I don't like to see a guy go down like this. This guy finished his check that's all maybe hands a little high and we don't see if he took a run from center ice but the injury doesn't justify the severity of the susp.

If this hit was clean, he would have put his weight straight into the hit. He would have checked his man. Instead, Liambus put his weight high up on Fanelli, which is uneccesary. In hockey, you play the BODY. Not shoulders and up. There was no reason for him to swipe this guy into the glass. A clean hockey player would have centered his weight on the hit and everybody would have been fine. To clip a guy high and skate away is dirty.

I am not aware of Liambas past hits ( Dont watch OHL, Go Vancouver GIANTS!), so maybe the suspension he got is deserved if he has done it in the past.
