NO its forbidden to use production music without licensing in a trailer!!!! You have to license it first, which is very expensive

BUT....if he CLEARLY states "This is NOT my music, it was WRITTEN BY and BELONGS to_____" then he's fine. As long as there is CLEARLY no ownership intended, nor implied, it should be fine.

@MrClassyTiger Although he would be using a licensed song to promote something of wich he would probably obtain profit. If it was a fan-video of any freeware sort, then there would be no problem. But they're talking about a trailer for something wich may be profitable.
