  • I don't see it cuttin' a damn thing!

  • good explanation

  • 2 words! Lawn Sprinkler!! JK! Actually really. Cool. I might get one:)

  • Wow, that goes eats through your dead lawn with ease.

  • Will this mower work well in wet grass?

  • @tcthomas22 Yes, it works well in wet grass. The grass clippings will stick more to the mower, so you will need clean it afterwards.

  • I bought one, but it's a WhisperCut 18.

  • Thanks for the information...I learned a lot. I just ordered one of these today and am looking forward to it.

  • Thanks, I am looking to get a reel mower too.

  • Great little mower, easy to use but the handle leaves much to be desired.

  • I agree...I welded the entire handle together...works well like that. :)

  • Great video, I love my Scotts mower. By the way, your grass looks pretty beat up!

  • Yes...that was very early spring before the lawn had woken up from a long winter's nap.

  • I like the fact you can order parts if you break something-like a part of the handle which is what I've done.

  • You certainly can...and the handle is a weak point. My next video release is me welding the other side of mine, since now both sides have broken. A film I didn't shoot but happened the next day was actually welding the entire handle together...now no worries of breakage.

  • My Brill Razorcut 38 is allot easier to adjust. But it only goes up to 45mm. A bit less then 2 inches.

It also only needs to be sharpened once every 8-10 years according to the manufacture. It's a no contact cutting mechanism that you calibrate with a metal spacer once a season. VERY QUIET. And light weight. Only 17 lbs.

    I love it.

  • Brills are nice, but also quite expensive...and the low cutting height is an issue for my lawn, which is rough, and to be honest, not much grass as a collection of green weeds. This unit is very quiet too, usually with a mower I need hearing protection but with this one I can enjoy my MP3 player.

  • I've been writing a 10 page paper on living green and reel mowers are MUCH better for the environment. Running a gas powered mower is like driving a car 100 miles, its rediculous. Cookies for you and your purchase :D

  • Thanks Ben! Your video is much appreciated. I just purchased this same model at a local hardware for $99.00 since it has a little rust on the cutting edge of the blades. My father had a manual reel mower back in the early 60's, then bought a gas one. All these years I've been using gas mowers, but when my mower would not start today (possible clog in carburetor) I took the opportunity to buy this "gas free" "non-stinky" "quieter"classic. Thanks for telling about the manufacturers tips!

  • If you have tough or thick grass they don't work well.

  • It does very well if you keep up on it. The longer the grass, even regular grass, its harder it is to mow. They also don't to tall things...like dandelions.

  • I'd have to mow every 2 days; the stuff I've got grows unbelieveably fast -

  • why would u pay that much for it when u can get a powered one cheaper my reel mower has an engine and its a way better idea than an unpowered one

  • This guy only pays for his once. You pay for yours every time you put gas+oil in it. Lots of people are buying this type also for the fact of no pollution. I have a 10 foot gang reel mower I pull behind my lawn mower. What use to take me 4 hours now takes 1. Not to mention the gas I saved and life of the mower. Peace.

  • @supergooddeal my gas-powered mower uses so little gas/oil it's ridiculous. i mow weekly but i only have to refill my 5-gallon fuel tank every few years. actually i don't know how many years since it's been so long since i've had to do it. and as far as oil goes, it only stores about 1/2 pint of cheap 30-weight oil and gets changed once per year, so...

  • @pandurate i would agree with u....too bad gas mowers break down so much...dirty oil/ gas, air filters, spark plugs, etc. mine's pain in the avjuvss

  • @baylorz28 I must have lucked out then. I bought a gas mower in 1999 and still use it today. I didn't change the spark plug or the air filter, nor did I sharpen or replace the blade, for the first 9 years. I have no idea how the thing has kept running, but running it has. Don't get me wrong; I recently bought a reel mower and enjoy it more than the gas mower.

  • The best part is that you aren't burning expensive gas while mowing. Gas mowers actually suck up quite a bit of gas and produce a nasty oil/gas smell.

  • I absolutely LOVE mine too!!! =)

wondering what kind of maintenance needs to be done on it.

It makes mowing a pleasure again!! It's sooo quiet!!

  • I did a video on maintenance just recently, it won't let me link it here but I'll see if I make it one of my video responses...it's called "Maintenance for my Scotts Classic 20" reel mower".

  • I love mine. Thanks for the video.

  • I agree...for those people one the fence, it's worth it. I've mowed the lawn a few times now and it works great. I'll be posting a video in a week or two with some tips, dos and don'ts. I mow 20k sq. ft and its easier then push mowing it with a rotary mower. The strangest thing is the cats...they don't mind it at all. They'll just sit and watch, oblivious to the machine.

  • We have the 16" from Scotts, it's a great product, quiet enough to listen to music on headphones while mowing. These things ought to take off in popularity.
