THe best point you can make is that there have been close to a thousand deaths in Boxings over century long history. THere's been a recorded 2 deaths in MMA's almost 20 year history, but none in the UFC. 1/500 deaths in about one 1/6 of the time Boxing has been a sport. Shouldn't there be alot more if MMA is so brutal? and MMA will only get safer as time goes on.
In the end MMA will have to go through the same trials that Boxing had to endure, and the fans are the only ones who can help.

in mma if you get rocked the ref jumps in and its all over. not to mention striking your opponent is not the only way to win. in mma there are submissions...chokes, holds etc.

1) But boxing is still a lot more dangerous than MMA. Brain damage and dementia pugilistica are WAY more prevalent in boxing than in MMA. MMA might look more violent, but it really isn't.

in mma if you get rocked the ref jumps in and its all over. not to mention striking your opponent is not the only way to win. in mma there are submissions...chokes, holds etc.

2) MMA is closer to real fighting than boxing is. If you get into a fight with somebody on the streets and they knock you down, they are not going to 'give you a chance to recover and prove yourself'.

this pulled back some respect i have for joe rogan. i just think the UFC need to try different things. last night on ufc 122 i thought to myself, 'this is exactly the same as the last one' music, voices, similar fights no KO's AT ALL only a good TKO by vemola in the pre-lims. ufc need to buck their ideas up because in my eyes a good show from SHOWTIME (K1 fights) is a much better fight night. especially when 80% of watchers dont understand grappling.

mma is exciting and the ufc is getting bigger and bigger by the year. the only thing i will say is yes the sport is very dangerous and you can have several permanent injuries. the human body is not meant to sustain those many hits to the head and i wouldn't be surprised if their was a death in the very near future. it would be exciting to die in competition but it wouldn't be exciting to get paralyzed because of competition. i don't hate the mma and watch it but sometimes it can cross the line

Who ever said it wasn't a big deal? The reason Joe Rogan doesn't make it a big deal is because he can't do anything about those who are dying everyday.
