Usually it comes with your computer just go to "Start" then in the search type in "windows speech recognition" and go through the tutorial. Make sure you have a mic hooked up correctly too
And if you are going to buy a mic you should get a good mic like a headset, otherwise the windows speech recognition will not work as well as it should
unfortunately the reason for microsoft to develop this is so that program won't be used anymore. anything that isn't a game and has some practical or popular value to it, microsoft will make their own version of it to defeat the competition

It must be internet explorer. Just a convenient little condition that microsoft added in there. I can't stand IE, so I don't use speech recognition for browsing. However, I know that the Opera browser has built in speech recognition cabability.

I imagine it would be useful to say, check the weather while tying my shoes or, tell my computer to shut down while walking away. Generally to do things out of arms distance to the computer. I guess it would depend on the quality of your microphone.
That's not my what i meant. You need to pause when dictating to the computer and then make sure it wrote everything right. It's easier for me to just type it.
Several things I don't like about speech recognition:
1. I can't listen to music;
2. I can't watch a movie;
3. I can type/use the mouse faster then speech recognition can recognise my voice, and I don't have to constantly select from a series of options/go back and correct what I've typed.
yeah, i have a pretty southern inflection to my voice, (i live in tennessee) and it trains itself to understand what you're saying by itself. im using it to type this right now
I find it funny that some people think Windows XP is all that and Vista Blows. I recall when XP first came out all the compatibility issues, security issues and all the baloney you had to go through just to get it to work right. It's only right now that XP is even anything worth using and that comes after some 80+ updates and 2 Service Packs later. Yeah, Vista has issues, but if in 8+ years, 80+ updates and another Service Pack, later, It'll work just as great as XP.
obviously we say it sucks because it will only be good in 8 years, like you said. Vista looks sspiffy but is not very effecient. after it gets updated some, it should be ok,but for now XP is better. Although, this Speech function is cool. This may be one of the features they don't need to fix much.

Like others say, this is similar to my experience with Speech Recognition. It takes a little bit of time getting used to it, but it doesn't take long to get it to work fine.
Ok this is kinda cool, but why use that when you have the mouse wich works alot better, this is taking to long, imagine a office landscape where everyone uses this... not a good idea
what if you didn't have hands, arms, or had some ambulatory condition which prevents you from using a mouse or keyboard. That is why it is under ease of acces. It can be used for a number of reasons but it was designed or intended for people with disabilities.

1) Vista serves no purpose other than DirectX 10, people are being blackmailed into upgrading for no reason at all and vista is slower than xp at everything else.

Those people have not done the speech recognition tutorial and at least a practise for speech recognition. Thats the reason for problems. I have done it and my experience is as the same as the person in this video.

thats because the mac versions come out a few months l8er so ther is more time to work out the kinks and fine tune the graphics, being l8t is a good thing in this case(id rather wait 3-4 months and get more featurs and better graphics)

Actually, OpenGL is much easier to use to create games! The graphics also offer higher quality. The fact is that:

It just takes a little bit of practice and I can speak pretty fluent and it doesn't have a problem.

If you have Vista Basic, you don't have the 3d switch. If you have Vista Premium or higher, I don't know what the problem is.

All you have to do is do a few training sessions and not mumble/stutter and it works perfectly. Not sure what you all are doing wrong.

Like others say, this is similar to my experience with Speech Recognition. It takes a little bit of time getting used to it, but it doesn't take long to get it to work fine.

Maybe when you're using a mouse, but everything else (typing interfaces, quick-opening programs, etc.) is what makes speech recognition shine.

what if you didn't have hands, arms, or had some ambulatory condition which prevents you from using a mouse or keyboard. That is why it is under ease of acces. It can be used for a number of reasons but it was designed or intended for people with disabilities.

there are programs like this on xp already.
1) Vista serves no purpose other than DirectX 10, people are being blackmailed into upgrading for no reason at all and vista is slower than xp at everything else.
2)The apple-woodcrest quad cores have been the performance leaders untill the quad core penryns from intel came out recently
3)around 20% of the market use apple the rest are on windows so unfortnunatly apple users will not have the range of choice

I don't see for speech recognition on Mac yet, but I seen on Vista via youtube have it, but there I reviewed on the video, I say, it's worst speech recognition ever I have seen.

Those people have not done the speech recognition tutorial and at least a practise for speech recognition. Thats the reason for problems. I have done it and my experience is as the same as the person in this video.

Um, have any of you heard of something called "tendinitis" or "carpal tunnel syndrome"? I'm a pianist, and between the piano, the computer, and weight lifting, the risk of an injury was inevitable. Something like this takes one of the major sources of strain out of the picture. It's a lifesaver.

I think Core Image would also boost the game's performance. I have a non-Core Image supported Mac mini G4, and I am interested in purchasing a Core Image compatible PowerBook for cheap! (MacBooks are too expensive! :) )

thats because the mac versions come out a few months l8er so ther is more time to work out the kinks and fine tune the graphics, being l8t is a good thing in this case(id rather wait 3-4 months and get more featurs and better graphics)

No, actually, the Mac version came out earlier. The upcoming patch of "World of Warcraft" will have video capture for the Mac only! "iTunes Remote" is currently for the Mac only!
Even "Screen Capture" was available for the Mac before it was introduced in the Windows variant. Because the OS X operating system is integrated, it is very, very easy to add a feature that uses QuickTime and iTunes into the game.

I love Halo! And yes, you are right, considering the fact that Halo Version 2.0 not only had introduced the game as Universal binary, but had improved the game's graphics AND significantly improved the speed.
Even on my Mac mini G4, Version 2.02 runs significantly faster than 1.52.
Damn Microsoft. "Halo" was originally to be a Mac only game. Now Bungie themselves, after being brainwashed by Microsoft, refuse to release the game for Mac!

I think that Microsoft is trying to, if not have Mac users switch to Windows as a main OS, profit from Mac users buying the OS for use with Boot Camp.
The thing they do not realize is that soon every huge computer game developer will be be developing for MACS ONLY! Bungie will look out of date releasing games for Windows. Pretty soon, one way or another, they'll have to secede from Microsoft.

It is not that. BUNGIE THEMSELVES do not seem to be interested in creating games for the Mac. They have not released anything for the Mac since the first Halo.
I think that Microsoft might have brainwashed them enough to believe that Mac OS X is an inferior OS. Believe me!

microsoft made a contract that all new halo games be made exclusivly for the windows pc. but that didnt apply to games already in production(like the first halo) microsoft is good at contracts, they probly made it so we cant have the complete halo franchis for at least 10 years. also, dx is easyer to right games then opengl(mac os rendering software) and they might just be too lazy.

Actually, OpenGL is much easier to use to create games! The graphics also offer higher quality. The fact is that:
1. Microsoft wanted this game to be HUGE. Being conceited, they did not have the will to use OS X.
2. They might have been lethargic at learning to use OS X, but remember, they use PowerPC Macs to create XBOX games. WHY? PowerPC Macs and all current home game consoles use a variant of the PowerPC chip.

Well, you can't forget that the PS3 uses a custom IBM processor, not a PowerPC. Cell's not even based on PowerPC.
