And I know they're really influential, but I've never really listened to Mercyful Fate, either. I'm more into Classic, Thrash, and Power Metal than the newer stuff. Still pretty kickass, though.

However i just can't stand his voice when he goes into his higher reaches. For example i think the music in this song is pretty damn decent. But his voice is a deal breaker for me, and theres nothing more to it.
I'm really not a metallica fan so i'm not familiar with the cover.
"The Eye" is, in my humble opinion, the only decent album he's made. I kinda like this song now -- at least the beginning part -- but when I first heard it back in '87, I thought it was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. I don't care for the rest of the "Abigail" album or "Them". On the other hand, "The Eye" has songs with catchy riffs that can hold their own.

Also you need learn the difference between a naturally high/well trained voice, and crappy falsetto. Frankly you'd have to be deaf to think that this guy is anywhere near the league of the two you mentioned.

@IMHDF I'm pretty sure you haven't really listened to King Diamond (or Mercyful Fate's) albums properly. If you did, you wouldn't have such a disrespectful view of him. The man had such a huge influence in metal, its unbelievable. Even bands like Metallica rates him really highly. You know the song 'Mercyful fate' by Metallica? Its actually a cover of KD's songs. here's a vid watch?v=STmyPGNPOJs. There's much more to KD than you think!

@thedistorter666 I respect his influence, i've seen how many bands name him as an influence, and i think a lot of mercyful fates actual music is really rather good (although admittedly i haven't heard all of it). However i just can't stand his voice when he goes into his higher reaches. For example i think the music in this song is pretty damn decent. But his voice is a deal breaker for me, and theres nothing more to it.
I'm really not a metallica fan so i'm not familiar with the cover.

"The Eye" is, in my humble opinion, the only decent album he's made. I kinda like this song now -- at least the beginning part -- but when I first heard it back in '87, I thought it was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. I don't care for the rest of the "Abigail" album or "Them". On the other hand, "The Eye" has songs with catchy riffs that can hold their own.
