  • Hi Emily - I LOVE your videos and have learning so much!! I have a little trouble figuring out exactly where to start. Can you recommend a training plan? Do you only train one thing at a time, or do you work on a multitude of behaviors at once, just interspersed throughout the day? Is there a particular book that will help me get started? I've been over the clickertraining site, but I can't find anything that says, do this first, then that, etc. Thanks, Connie

  • Is that a border collie? because ive always wanted a dog that is very intelligent and easy to train. I have a Beagle right now and she wont listen to me when i try to teach her new tricks, she just sniffs my hands a licks them because i have a treat in my hand. Also she wont pay attention to me. Do u have any advice u can give me?

  • How long have you had Tug? Did you pick him for his trick potential?

  • Awesome! The most impressive for me was little Tug sitting nicely on his mat whilst Splash did her thing! This really makes me think I'm not raising criteria fast enough for Noodle - my timing is sometimes still very off though, so it's probably more difficult for him than it need be.

  • Emily, Tug is going to be another one of your SUPERSTARS! Love this video! WOW! Just simply AMAZING!!!!

  • Good grief, you guys are amazing!! How long have you had Tug and he's already doing all this? I'm in total awe.

  • I can't believe Tug knows so much already! It is really inspiring for all of us who are subscribers, Emily, to see how easily and quickly a dog can learn using your methods. Yea for you and Tug!

  • Amazing work! I've been doing some of your tricks but this totally puts me to shame. I cant believe how much he's learned already!

  • Tug is learning so fast! It is amazing how much he knows already!

  • Aww I love how Splash had to show off at the end too :) she's so cute! And Tug is learning so quickly! You truely are a brilliant dog trainer, it shows in how much your dogs learn and how much fun they have when performing tricks! Great vid, keep making 'em!

  • awesome! Tug is now a beautiful and famous dogstar!! Nice video!

  • how long does it take you to train a puppy. your so skilled, best i've seen with my own two eyes

  • @MonteyCarlo92081 it depends what you want to train the puppy to do :) If you think about it you are training your dogs the whole time, because they learn from every interaction with you and every interaction with the environment. So if you think in terms of that, I just keep aware that the things I like are being reinforced and the things I dont like the dog doing are not being reinforced! :)

  • Wow !! You did an amazing job !!! It seems like you taught her sooo much in such short time !

Mm..what is the trick where Splash touches his nose when you did the same? Do you have a tutorial on that? :DD

  • i've always wanted an australian shepherd!!! ive been looking for female pup for like 2 months now. in southern cali. and i cant find any. i found aussie lab mix. the thing is i want the original blue merle or red merle, or even a healer. but ive had no success finding any. your so lucky!!!

  • @MonteyCarlo92081 Splash is a blue merle Border Collie, not an Aussie. She's gorgeous too!

  • @MonteyCarlo92081 check out aussierescuesocalDOTCOM Look at their available dogs, there are some gorgeous merles! And I am not sure if they are available still but a bunch of puppies! There is a beautiful mini aussie too

  • Was he in not the best condition when you got him? He just looks so much healthier in this vid than when you first showed him off with Kiko. His fur looks so healthy and shiny. Oh, what some good lovin' will do to these pups :) Too cute!

  • It's amazing how much he has learned. Says a lot about him, you and the power of clicker training. I get overwhelmed trying to get the short training times in keeping the 2 dogs separate. The older one will stay in a position, (good practice for this), but the pup is so focused on the food that we are working on her waiting her turn :)

And then I forget the new things I wanted to teach so we go over old ones. Guess I need to make a list for each room! Thanks for all you do.

  • wow .. go tug !!

  • so cute :')

  • Awesome ! You did a great job ! You're definitly the best dog trainer i've ever seen ! It's crazy to see how your dogs are calm when just one is working !

I hope my dogs will be as great as yours !

  • adorable :o)

  • Super training! And so fast ! How old is Tug in this video?

  • Splash is adorable in that final picture!

  • Love it!!

  • I love this channel. It really inspires me to try new things with my dog and to see how simple you make makes me feel like I could do it too.

  • @ail2938 Yep! It's really simple, just needs a mind switch for some people. With clicker training anyone can do it :)

  • Wow Emily, I'm stunned. What a performance and it's only a month since Tug came to live with you. I'm bluffed. My Calou is almost 3 and I'm very far from Tug's level. You have a wonderful contact with him. Can you tell us how often, how long, what frequency you train with him??

Thanks a lot for the wonderful video and continue having fun with your dogs. They're blessed to be living with you.

  • Wow. super awesome. I'm having a hard time with the heeling with my pup, but we're working on the weave between the legs. Everything he has learned so far has been from your videos! Thank you:)

  • Haha, I didn't know your new guys name was Tug! I thought this was gonna be a vid on how to use the game of tug as a motivation for training! LOL

He's so good! How old is he..like 5mths?! He knows tricks my 2 year old doesn't know! Great incentive to teach some new tricks for me!

Do you have a tut on how to teach the trick at 0:34 ? I'm trying to teach my Collie rescue how to touch my knees on cue, but I'm not sure how to train her to touch my left knee with her Left paw or vice-versa .

  • Excellent job!

  • youre such a good dog trainer, hes learned so much in so little time! im going to mimic your training style when i get my dobermann.

  • Oh boy, you have been very busy, what a lot of tricks Tug already knows!

Great job and he seems to enjoy it al.

  • I love how you have the whole family in the final shots!

  • Tug ROCKS! So amazing for such a young pup! He is going to be a freestyle star! Yay! Emily you are such an outstanding trainer! I am soooo impressed with you more and more everyday! I am also so happy that I am friends with you! I learn so much from you!

  • he's soooo amazing

  • i dont understand what happend. Now he barks at everyone and everything. He does NOT like new dogs, or most other dogs. Only my parents and brother's dogs and he tolerates our roommate's dogs. :/ I just dont understand what happend and dont know what to do. Its so disheartening. He barks all the time when he's out side (pretty much just runs out there barking at nothing...) Do you have any advice for me please?

  • i have another questions. I have 2 chis. My oldest, Mishka, male, 1yr4mo. We got him @ 8wks and socialized him like crazy. Went for walks all the time, took him everywhere we went and intor'd him to practically every person, dog, cat, bunny we came across. He did GREAT! He LOOOVED ppl and other dogs and played w/ cats (was a bit warry of the bunny, but it did out weigh him by about 25lbs. lol!) but he has now become very timid and sometimes agressive...

  • you and your dogs are so beautiful. this was a REALLY fun vid to watch. (although I agree w/ vattenlilja's comment -- I just cant get it all put together and get my pups trained. Maybe it doesnt help that they are close in age and neither trained perfectly (or really well even) and so are competing w/ each other. Should I seperate them to train?

  • oh just awesome! Tug is the most lovely puppy ever!! hehe! what a great video. I have had to do so much work on behaviour with Vinnie that I haven't done as much trick training as I would like but I think we are there now and yesterday he started to WAG his tail and OFFER behaviours when training, I was so proud of him :-)

  • so I gotta ask, how much time do you spend everyday training Tug? Do you break it up into mini sessions throughout the day, do you just fit it in where you can or do you devote a certain block of time each day? I'm trying to figure out if I'm spending too much or too little time with my dog. Thanks!

  • Absolutely superb! Brilliant work and what a super dog Tug is ... all of your dogs are x They are all soo focused and listen all the time - a pleasure to watch

  • Tug is a fast-learner! You just got him recently and he knows so many tricks! You are an awesome trainer!

  • Que lindo !!!

  • Bah, his huge progress makes me so depressed, my pup (4 months) doesn't know any behaviours on cue yet, and I'm a dog trainer! I'm such a bad person. :P But great work!

  • @Vattenlilja Dont be silly :) I didnt show you the majority of stuff that I have been working on with my puppy which is tons of handling, socialization, helping build his confidence, separation anxiety, and house training. Work on all the foundations, there is no rush to teaching tricks! Games like 101 things to do with a box are great to play when you feel overwhelmed- you and the dog learn without there being any pressure of a finished result :)

  • @kikopup I agree, I love the 101 things to do with a box game :) Helps me to believe in my dog again and not get frustrated when he doesn't know what I'm trying to tell him. :D Great vid btw, loved it!

  • Go Tug! He is really coming out of his shell.

  • Amazing work

  • Look at the head position on the heeling! Do you find that small dogs have an easier time with the heads up position since they are used to looking up for rewards all the time anyway or is it equally hard to teach for both small and large dogs? My GSD is giving me fits trying to get his head up. When I get him working in drive he heels quite nicely but will not look up for anything!

  • I teach the dogs to target my hand and then to stare at my hand rather than look at my face or my eyes. Most little dogs get more information from your hands than your face and it keeps them strait. I dont know how common a technique this is though. For bigger dogs, I think its easier because you dont have to bend over in the initial training sessions and then when you raise your hand away from the little dogs, they tend to jump...

  • This is amazing what you've taught Tug in such a short time. Smart puppy and an awesome trainer : )

  • Thanks

  • Emily, OMG Tug is learning so fast! You are so good ... and he is an adorable smart puppy.

  • Yep, he's a rock star already with some SWEET moves!!

  • Amazing work, how old is tug?

  • Awesome job...I am amazed at the progress with Tug. Looks like he is fitting in super well!

  • wow, he has learned a ton. And I am very impressed

  • LOVE this video!!!! I am always so impressed with all of them, but I can't believe how much that puppy knows already! How do you teach the backwards movements? Can you possibly do a video on that? I know you did one on teaching the dog backing up, but I don't know how to progress from there.

  • Wow! How long have you had him? He's doing great! What a cool little dog!!!!

  • pretty great since it's only been a few weeks hasn't it?

  • cool!

  • wow tug has learned a lot already!

  • yay first person to comment! Good video!
