Yea I agree.... the plot line is surrounded by racial tensions in detroit..the whole reason effie got fired is because she looked "too black" it really can't be done with white actors.... well it can be but it takes a massive chunk out of the story line...you really can't deny it especially since it was based on motown. but it was a great effort

Though Dreamgirls was about one of the most successful African American Girl Groups in America, the Supremes & any other African American Girl Group of that time, this play showcased how black music had to change in order to meet white standards & to crossover to white audiences, so that part of the message is lost in a white cast of actors, but again, if anyone knows the significance of the play can overlook the mostly white cast here.

Im not racist but this play does play alot on the color of there skin racism and how they had to fight there way before any radio station would play there songs because they were black.

Plus it just looks weird w/o a all black cast but yeah Effie was gud

this IS lachsa!!! My friend Danny was in this production! They really did a good job...I really enjoyed the mix they did at D-Tasc too...very slick. Usually their musicals arent this good.

As a black male, I happen to be a fan of color blind casting, ESPECIALLY since it's a high shcool performance. With a show like Dreamgirls in a high school, I'd be more concerned about the vocals and this Effie can obviously SING so it's all good to me
