  • This is one of the most important scene in Space Battleship Yamato. Without this, it is going to be Starblazers... I am for omitting it in the US version. Starblazers was "just" a Starblazers, not enough the name of Yamato. "Yamato" should not be easy to be used. Because its name is "the soul of Japan" so to speak.

I heard Hollywood wants to make Starblazers live action. I hope they don't disgrace the Yamato.

  • i wonder, why did they cut it out?

the US Navy was so afraid of one ship that they sended all planes they got on it.

Yamato took neer to 20 air bombs and torpedos, not counting plane-based rockets, and sunk becouse of floding.

a most simbolic "Kamikaze" mission (or Kammakkazi for US sailors).

All Hail to the ones who lost their lives on the seas, skies and lands of WWII!

  • It missed it very much.

    Thank you.

    From Japan

  • This is actually a clip from the Space Battleship Yamato animated movie! There are also scenes in the one of the movies about the Arizona being converted into a space cruiser as well! Great clip though.............

  • I got all 5 videos of the Yamato movies in a package in 2000 (didn't have them on dvd at the time) and saw this. Really great backdrop. As for the distance to the Megelanic cloud (i.e. Iscandar and Gammilon or as the Japanese called it: Gammilus). The opening of the Star Blazers tv show said it was "148,000 light years and back" or a 296,000 light year round trip.

  • they have some on netflix.

  • Honor to the Fallen!....

    "Uchuu Senkan Yamato"

  • Today when we known how Yamato wreck look in reality such conversion to spaceship is simply impossible because Yamato was tear apart by explosion of ammo chambers.

Entire Ten Go operation was a call of desperation because many Japan Navy officers known that this mission have very small chance of success BUT Crew of Yamato deserve respect for thier bravery.

They show something what was lacking on the other side of front line and i mean Honor.

    May they Rest in Peace.

  • 296,000 light years? Thats just void, our galaxy is 100,000 light years in diamater and the nearest galaxy is 2,500,000 light years away.

  • Yes, you're right, however YAMATO has the powerful engine that named "HADOU ENGINE" (It is warp engine). YAMATO is going to Iscandar, using warp ability: just like Enterprise of Ster Trek. By the way, it is very interesting for me, YAMATO and Enterprise, these two starships are named from warship within WW2, YAMATO is battleship, and Enterprise is aircraftcarrier... Maybe their name is very loved by the people of Japan and USA.

  • They were heading for a planet in the Large Magellanic Cloud, which begins about 157,000 light years from Earth.

  • dude i'm serching every were to download this anime , but i cant find it , it's too sad

  • Comment removed

  • LOL , thats true

  • 2:37

So sad, the captain sink with his ship.

  • Damn...was it really a doomed mission? No fuel for a return trip?

  • Yeah, this clip is showing a very real episode of history, despite that it is a cartoon - therefor sometimes not very accurate, but nice anyway.

  • have a film about it, made in japan, the name is YAMATO,, i

  • Yes, the Yamato was on a one-way mission. It was intended that she beach herself and be used as a shore defense platform. She did not reach her destination.

May all brave souls find peaceful rest.

  • Now I say thank you for your message of sympathy as one of the Japanese.

And I hope peaceful rest on the people of your country that died in the WW2.

  • Thank you, I have always wanted to see this clip.

  • I did see this clip...but I watched it in South America as a kid.

  • 「大和の最期」の映像は「決断」からの流用か?

    と、長らく思っていた。

  • Possible SciFi coincidence - I'll bet one of the carriers that launched those planes was Enterprise.

  • Wow. Coincidence much. ... Wow. That was a good bit of logic there.

  • Yamato was a beauty.

  • Just beautiful.

  • I found this scene on Disc 1 of the DVD series 1 Box Set (had to use DVD Shrink to view it :\).

  • First time I see this, I really like the Kaigun march in the background

  • Thanks for the clip. I remember it. Some friends told me the english version was censored or cut. But in Latin America, i think we saw the uncensored version, because i remember clearly this part. Anyways, it´s great to see Yamato, more than 20 years later.

  • si , en peru la vi un domingo alas 6 en canal 5, que recuerdos..."nave espacial"

  • but still great clip.

  • this was made before her wreck was found and just like the British thought the Titanic sank in one peace the Japanese thought the Yamato sank in one peace.

  • Yeah, of course the clip is historycally not precise. But it's great anyway - especially for someone who likes WW II. history :-).

  • But the picture of the mushroom cloud is directly out of the US Aerial photos of the event. The Yamato turned turtle and her magazines detonated.

  • Thank you very much

  • Thanks for the unseen scenes.
