He trains bjj under Juliano Prado, so his ground game has to be good. I trained with Juliano briefly, and the guy is a great instructor and an even better grappler. We would have school tournaments (sure we were just white and blue belts), and juliano would participate and tap out (not just beat, tap out) 30-35 guys (all at once, no just joking, one after the other). Great teacher, even better grappler.
Yes it is he got beat trying to make it on to the USA team which as can be seen from the show wasn't that strong anyway. Some guy at my gym has trained with him at Tiger, tbh Ray's alot better at BJJ than he is Muay Thai
Ray's Muay Thai and stand-up game has improved 10-fold over his time training with our Muay Thai instructors. With the addition of permanent instructors teach Muay Thai for MMA based fighting, Ray will get only better.
C.O.R.E. / Ab training is VERY important in BJJ/MMA. At the end of every Advanced training session (afternoon) the MMA group takes turns doing 50 reps of a variety of AB exercises from leg-ups, crunches, side-crunches, sit-ups, leg-twirls, etc. Each student counts out a set of 50 reps, then the next, then the next, etc.
Magical Ray Elbe is a fantastic MMA trainer because he leaves it all on the mat with his students. He will teach you what you need to know to win, nit just what you need to get by. Popular saying....."Train hard and fight easy" Alex Reid (Cage Rage Veteran)....another popular phrase...."Train hard or go home."
You are not the first to mention the hard C.O.R.E. Abdominal training (very important for good MMA)that Ray uses. 1000 sit-ups / crunches /and more at every session.
anyone who takes time out of their own agenda of training to teach, deserves all the respect in the world regardless of his record.
