  • CBC are a bunch of pathetic Jews.

  • It's unheard of and a travesty against humanity. What a joke. Just fire the entire staff of CBC because of this. Yes, that's right, fire everything. Fire the earth. You can't just change the theme that's been a tradition for over 50 years. Are you crazy!?

  • Saturday Night Hockey doesnt feel the same anymore

  • another case that makes me feel we need to illigalize copyrights. another case of something we all love taken hostage over the almighty doller. nothing wrong with people makeing money off their work, but as was used for so long, should have EARNED the right to use it forever. what made the song popular thus giveing the oppurtunity to milk it? the fact it was used on hocky night in canada for 40 years.

  • NOW I HAVE TO WATCH THIS ON TSN EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT?!?! I miss going da da da da da daa daa daa daa daa da da da da da da While Playing Mini hockey in my living room on saturday nights.its not the same on wednesday nights.

  • I'm a traditionlist and miss this old Hockey Night in Canada theme. @CanadaNS - agree 100 percent with you:). It was a saple at our house on Saturday Nights. I always knew when it was 9 pm back then LOL! haha.

  • @cyphrinfinity oops edit: staple, I mean! ROFL haha! bloody typos!

  • pearts new version rules!

  • this has lost its appeal. hockey gold is way more powerful. Still a classic.

  • I'm going to miss da da da da da da da da da da daaaaa da da da da daaaa greatly on Saturday nights.

  • This should be Canada's national anthem.

  • fuck your stupid song.

  • @redvdub70 Shut the hell up you shit ass american before i come and pop one up your ass

  • @redvdub70 Canada could beat you in war any day bitch

  • Us here in Detroit love it too, eh! Your Nation's Invention is my City's Mad Obsession!

  • Keep the old THEME!!!...I remember watching HNIC from Depew, NY over the airwaves. It was fuzzy but hearing the HNIC song was a beacon for my brother and I as we felt special being able to watch hockey on a Canadian station (CBC).

  • spokes, and playing on backyard rinks and frozen ponds, on the street, and on those old tabletop games. Hockey ruled.

So, all these years later, being invited to create a new version of "Canada's second national anthem" for TSN's NHL broadcasts was a huge honour to me, and an exciting musical challenge. The day of recording and filming it "in the presence of the Stanley Cup" was truly one of the great experiences of my life. (Take that, bullies from 50 years ago!)"

  • And I never heard it. I missed the start of the game. I'm going to go find it now! Thanks for letting us know!

  • They Made A Contest And My Music Teacher Was Third

  • the new HNIC theme sucks dick

  • Can't you read? The NEW one is not out until tonight. "Growing up in Southern Ontario in the '50s and '60s as 'a kid who couldn't skate right' was a serious handicap," said Peart. "Hockey totally dominated our lives for half the year -- Sunday nights with my dad at the St. Catharines Arena cheering on the Junior A Blackhawks, anxiously watching NHL games on television, arguing in the schoolyard over favourite teams and players, trading hockey cards, putting them on our bicycle spokes, Rush Rules

  • wtf r u talking about, stfu

  • TSN and Anthem Entertainment Group have confirmed that Neil Peart, renowned drummer of legendary rock band Rush, will record a special rendition of The Hockey Theme, the iconic theme song originally written by Dolores Claman in 1968.

Peart is widely regarded as the world's most accomplished and most-respected drummer/percussionist. As the drummer and primary lyricist for the trio, Peart has recorded 18 studio albums with Rush which have sold over 40 million units worldwide.

  • Are you serious? That would be (goose bumps) awesome!

    Rush is rock and roll!

Geddy "By Tor" Lee, Alexander "Snow dog/Lifeson" (Aleksandar Živojinović) and a man the really needs no introduction: Neil Peart!

I've been listening to Rush ever since I was 12 years old, went to a couple of concerts, what a timeless band they are!

I'm from America and I'm excited about that, I hope it happens!

  • Neil Peart recorded a new rock version of The Hockey Theme last month, and the percussion-inspired rendition of "Canada's second national anthem" will make its NHL ON TSN debut tomorrow: Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 7 p.m. ET during the Philadelphia @ Toronto game.

Peart's rendition of The Hockey Theme also available to fans on iTunes on January 19 and his custom drum kit used to record "Canada's second national anthem" to be donated to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

  • For the recording, Peart wore his trademark cap adorned with the logos of the original six NHL teams. He also wore a hockey jersey featuring his "Bubba's Bar & Grill" logo on the front and the number three on the back, in reference to the three members of Rush. The band's name was also sewn onto the jersey's nameplate.

"Canada's second national anthem" will make its NHL ON TSN debut tomorrow: Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 7 p.m. ET during the Philadelphia @ Toronto game.

  • I hate CTV-TSN with a passion. They killed this theme big time. There gonna sucked brodcasting the 2010.

  • dude, chill out man, at least it still EXISTS besides, french commentators r way better :P

  • Your right. I hope Chris Cuthbert comes back to CBC after his Contracts Expires.

  • hum that song anywhere in the world and you will find another Canadian. CBC and the Department of Heritage, buy her out, it is our anthem

  • I miss the Song. . . . .

  • cbc should be ashamed at themsleves i refuse to listen to this new piece of garbage

  • Best theme song ever.

  • yeah quebec is not canada!!!

  • By far the ONLY Hockey night in Canada song ever! :( I miss it so. YOu guys are so right. It's pure nostalgia. I remember Cold winter Canadian nights as a kid, and all I had to do was hear this song from the other room, and I know that meant my dad was watching Hockey and I could stay up to watch it with him :)

  • It is because of people like you that Quebec wants to separate from Canada, and I am a proud French-Canadian just so you know.

  • @LaSymphonieDesOrthos Quebec (as a whole) does not want to separate. Lol

  • The new CBC theme is good nothing will ever replace it but what TSN did with their intro and the song was an epic failure. F U TSN!

  • This song is waayyyy better then the new one they have on CBC, the theme song CBC has now sounds like some irish/scottish dance....it aint sound like hockey night in canada anymore

I wish it was back to normal :(

  • Oh my! I miss hearing this on Saturday night. I get it on TSN but, it's just not the same!

  • You can still hear it Saturday nights on RDS. :p

  • What has happened to Hockey Hertiage??? Is everything just all about money? Where will it all end? One day there will be no more Hockey. Who knows at the rate it's all going. If Don Cherry leaves It just won't be the same. More money, more money. It pisses me off.

  • fuck tsn right up the wall for stealing this fuckin song, fuck

  • im with u man we should have the hockey night in canada them back we should start a petition or seomething cuz the other song sucks

  • simple solution, have the REAL hockey song saved on a cd or something portable and convinient, and simply mute the tv when the canadian gold song comes up and play the true song with the visuals provided by the cbc...i know im gonna try it out, i just dont think its gonna be the same :(

  • an easy solution to this is to donate money to CBC so they have the money to buy the song back. Unfortunately, no one gets my logic. :(

PS. stupid copyright holders who have nothing to do with the composition of the song.

  • i understand your logic, i wish the 2 of us were rich enough to pay it off alone :(

  • make that 3, I get your logic too

  • The solution is easy....simply boycott the CBC. Watch TSN instead. The CBC (Communist Boadcasting Corporation) has become a rag of a corporation. The song that will replace it sounds more like a cheesy special olympics theme song (no offence to special olympics folks).

  • One very simple and easy question to the CBC, "Who was fired for incompetence for losing this song?"--if no one was, fire the CBC Chairman--the bucks stops with him.

  • CBC has lost its way. I remember during the last strike they would show movies on saturday night..they called it "Movie Night In Canada" and they had Ron Maclean as the host. And they put on a movie called "Amelie" (which they called a "romantic comedy")....I wrote an angry letter to the CBC because the movie contained multiple orgasm bed scenes, sex shop dildos and other mature adult themes. I'm sure lot's of parents didn't expect a hockey themed show putting on trashy adult cr@p. Shame on CBC!

  • CBC's outright supidity (fire 5 of their do-nothing executives and that would have generated sufficient money to buy the song). This is one of the major reasons I'm voting Conservative--shake this damn CBC up!!!

  • does anyone have Dolores Claman's email?

  • This song will be remenber always.

    ONE OF THE CLASSIC.

Hockey night in Canada will never be the same again.

  • everybody...be really mean to Dolores Claman

  • how can you change this !...im curious as to how much money the copyrights were and how much they were offered ?

  • It cost about $500 in licensing fees per game while it was on and Dolores Claman was offered the same amount again. Apparently she was asking for an increase of about 15 per cent, what her agency said was an industry standard. CBC also offered to buy it outright for a high six-figure sum.

  • It's sort of sad when money clashes with history.

  • Dave Hodge was a moron. I was glad to see him go, as well as that buffoon Howie Meeker.

  • The CBC is crap, they lost the anthem, they screwed Dave Hodge (anyone remember that!) not to mention their pro LIEberal spin on everything. Don Cherry will soon be gone as well.. probably to TSN.

    Stephen Harper for PM.

    FUCK THE CBC!!!!

  • I hate to say this but CBC always fucks up. They took alway Chris Cuthbert and the CFL and they also lost the rights to HNIC theme song. You might as well as look foward to HNIC on CTV or TSN instead of CBC. Good for CTV AND TSN bad for CBC

  • Click my name to hear five great new hockey themes. One is by Canadian psych legends Simply Saucer and another is by Randy Bachman from the Guess Who!

  • saying the song is gay is like saying o'canada is gay. i dare you to say that in front of national television. didn't think you would.

  • I'm one of the Composers who submitted material, and believe me , trying to beat out a tune that is engrained in the collective consciousness is very hard, but we have to move on OR wait until it's possibly bought back, you never know. Still this is OUR 2nd CANADIAN ANTHEM no matter who purchases the rights!

  • and BCB can go FUCK THEMSELFS.

  • hockey IS and will ALWAYS remain OUR national sport WE invented it (like basketball) i dont care if americans have the money WE have the sport WE started the dam thing and its because of WE Canadians that Americans are making money off of it Americans tend to copy OR buy everything they WONT take away (MY HOCKEY) I AM CANADIAN.yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • Are we losing the song in the background when they present the three stars too? I hope not.. realy like that background song!

  • I hope the entrant "Hocky Scores" wins

  • they fucked up BIG TIME! bring it back please somehow...

  • Some Americans think that this is the national anthem of Canada. GO CANADA! WE RULE! WHOOOOO!

  • lol this FRIKKIN SHOULD be the anthem for Canada.

SCREW YOU CTV. They won't do anything good with that song.

  • not copywright holders they sold the rights to CTV. still verry pissed. im going to get a copy of the song and play it when ever they play the new song. its not the same without it

  • Love this song♥, changing it is like changing the canadian national anthem:P =]

  • lets all start a petition to get it back!!!!

  • "lets all start a petition to get it back!!!!"

There's no reason to get it back. It's time for Canada to get a new one. Welcome to the 21st century. Things change.

  • besides, we cant. they sold it to CTV in a multi-million dollar deal. they wont just give it back

  • dude ive been listening to this song when I was like 5 years old till the age of 12

im now 23, it brings back memories

  • i love it very nuch

  • AS usual CBC (fucked up)

  • yeah verry true i heard they alomost lost don cherry last year. cuz cherry was askin for more money.

  • I like the fact that the composer of this theme is a woman.

  • haha samee!

  • the only chanel u will be hearing this now is RDS. so if u watch hockey in french you will hear it verry often

  • Seriously every canadian knows this song and now they decide to take it away how stupid its just going to cause more fueds and fans will be pissed

  • i cant belive that we have to have a new song for hockey Night in Canada now........... :[

  • Maybe TSN will use for all sports. Basketball Night In Canada, Football Night In Canada, Cricket Night In Canada, then everyone will get there fill. I for one am glad CBC didn't fork over millions for this song.

  • It's not Canada's 2nd national anthem when CTV Globemedia uses it.

  • Noooooooooooooooooooo they can't replace our hockey night in canada song. This is just wrong on so many levels.

  • my fav song

  • CBC has been shitting the bed lately, fuck em cheap bastards. Put my tax money to use already.

  • they fucked it up this time

  • So we'll hear it on CTV instead. Fuck a CBC anyways!

  • This is tragic :(

  • 1968 to 07 2008 r.i.p guys r.i.p it will not be a same a again naver.

  • its going to be tuff to replace that song.

  • no cbc is to poor to make a good deal so they fucked it up

  • This song is like a addiction we CANT get enough of it (2nd Canadian National Anthem).

  • ok lame i know but when i am about to do something big like face a hard day at work before i walk in the door i think of this song.

This song is what i know as thee hockey song i live 5 min south Van B.C area i love this song

    CANUCKS RULE!

  • When you say this is thee hockey song I so totally agree!

  • totally i mean i hear it i think bam some stick will hit the ice soon!! my son knows it as that to.

  • Hey This is an amazing song that I grew up with and I totally agree with you. I wonder where you got this particular recording as I'm very interested in getting one, of good quality, myself. Please let me know and thanks for posting this!

  • It's one that I found on YouTube, you'll have to look around. It wasn't easy.

  • i bet you anything that cbc will get it back.....

  • I hope so!

  • They should if they get the rights to 3/4 of the playoff games next year. It's a Canadian song and a Canadian game. We should of kept it.

  • fuck you tsn you stole our music ='(

  • lets all stand bow our heads and listen to OUR national anthem

  • The Song is the best. How dare they use it on friggin TSN!

  • if this song goes i dont think i will like hockey that much anymore because this song is most of the hockey sport!

  • everyone stand and remove your hats.

  • cbc lost the rights BUT never realy tryed 2 keep it either MORONS

  • Whoever decided not to keep this theme at CBC should be fired!

  • I have this CRAZY conspiracy as to why the CBC didn't renew it's contract.Maybe the CBC was looking for a show similar to greatest Canadian where they can get a lot of viewers, and the prez of CBC sports did say that they are planning to hold a contest to pick the next theme song, it is bound to get a lot of viewers, and boost it's ratings. Then again this is most likely a BS conspiracy theory.

  • The fact that CTV bought it out and is planning to use it on TSN broadcasts just adds insult to injury ... my opinion, at least.

    Anyone agree?

  • This is sad. It's a Canadian tradition. My husband and I even used it as the music to end our wedding ceremony when we walked back down the aisle together.... it's legendary.

  • What a wonderful idea! It's definitely CBC's loss...

  • Ahh i wish they could keep the song. Hockey Night in Canada wont be the same with out it!! Thats songs practically part of our hockey heritage!

  • i wish they kept this song! if a school couldnt play O canada they would play this song its the best thing to it

  • Yeah the theme won't disappear. It only goes on TSN and RDS instead of CBC don't believe it's the end but CBC was more with the tradition. I hope TSN and RDS won't ruine the song and play a good version like the 90s version on CBC.

  • This theme is keeped by RDS, the french-canadian sports network.

  • KEEP THIS SONG CBC

  • this is canadas second national anthem! you cannot change a national anthem!

  • au Quebec on vas la r'avoir !!

  • Lucky you!

  • CBC are a bunch of doughheads!! This is not the first time they have f'ed things up and it certainly won't be the last! Go and work on getting a new contract with Coronation Street you bunch of knuckleheads!!!

  • i feel like going to cbc head office and PLAY the song in the lobby

  • I know. CTV and TSN is not going to be the same. Although the Olympics is nice.

  • cbc you fucked again you bunch of IGNORANT FUCKS

  • first time ive heard it,not surprising i suppose.xx

  • Not really. Hockey Night in Canada. Hmmm... :)
