For someone who's "not an expert," you've gone through a lot of trouble to make this presentation. Thanks for the info. I can't wait to test out your prescribed ideas. Keep it up.
Sometimes it helps me to recognize that from the shooting perspective the distance from the center of the OB to the contact point is the same as the distance from the CB to the contact point. It's just a variation of the ghost ball idea, but a little more precise.
I saw your explanation on aiming some time ago and thought it was great. I went to the pool hall and tried out all the aiming methods that you mentioned, and I just wanted to point out somethings that I found while I was trying out different methods. The one that worked for me was the Fractional ball aiming method, but there was one thing that just did not work for me, and that is separating the aim line from the stick line. Whenever I did this I would mess up my alignment.
I can't believe how much voodoo is out there about something as simple as aiming. Other than for cut shots, the ghost ball is all that is needed, just compensate for throw.
I tried the ghost ball technique today after watching your tutorial last night and it definitely improved my game a little. I guess one needs to practice a lot too to implement any technique correctly.
i like my system, verify my contact point by looking where the cb has to hit to send the ob to the pocket, i the go back to the cuebal and sight down a line straight to contact point, i brige-uo, practice stroke, and shoot and bada-bing bada-bang OB dissapeared, and CB sometimes so (when i scratch)
The concept is clear but this absolutely a don't in pool. This isn't what pool text-books say and i would't learn this myself or other people. Look at snooker players thay have always their chin on te stick. With pool you don't have to have your chin on the cue but your sight line has to be the equal to your stick line. Some (pro) pool players don't have their sight line equal to their stick line because they prefer to to have their dominant eye above their cue.
Well you could hope for the magic aiming system that makes all the balls rattle in the pocket or you could just aim the way that the pro's do - get some stickers - set up a cut angle and then shoot it a few thousand times until it becomes natural and feels like you can't miss and then practice some close variations.
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F1 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd!

very good explanations.
how did you work out 14.5 and 48.6 - these are correct but almost everyone you speak to will think incorrectly that they are 15 and 45 degrees.

@Guitarded4life1 More simply, the contact point is always the midpoint between the center of the CB and the center of the OB during contact.

gud job fargo:)..ur really a pool enthusiast..
the crap abt me is i take more importance to placing, rather than pocketing a ball 1st, therefore at times carelessly missing to pot a ball:(

There's a better way, see "The Cut Shot dot com" No Ghost Balls, Imaginary Lines, Devices or Gimmicks!

The Cut Shot dot com, a better way to aim. No Ghost Balls, imaginary lines, devices, or gimmicks.
