Seals & Croft's have bluegrass roots?! fuckin' beautiful. God bless us for them, steely dan, jackson browne, jim croce, charlie rich, charlie pride, K.C. & sunshine band, Dylan, Todd Rundgren., Thank you God for 1974!!! and all the rest....ride on the peace train, Cat...
That version is as powerful as the master! I attended a stadium concert in Portland OR and afterward it was announced that they would return to the stage to speak about the Bahá'í Faith. A few thousand stuck around. When they came out Jimmie spoke with soaring inspiration on the unity and succession of the Prophets through time. He pointed to the ceiling indicating that, like those lights up there, they are connected by the same flow of spirit lighting each age. The Biz let it happen. Amazing!
"See My Life" about the Bai'b of Persia, all their songs are based on Bahai' scripture. It preaches that all the prophets were sent by the one God to instruct mankind at various points in history and their teachings represent accumulated knowledge of God and are to be taken whole.
intowhite09 i agree with excelsiorinmiami..someone pleeeeease post :"we may never pass this way again"..some of the stuff off of the seals and croft album (signature record) are the best songs they ever did..they were very spiritual and had more substance than 90 % of the music churned out by the industry today..time to go back to simple, good songs..
Thanks WWU. I realize my mistake. The album's name was actually Seals and Crofts, being their first release in 1969 and I guess we always just called it by our favourite song on the album.
Just two lovely lads, with brains & lyrics & talent... strummin' so fine...wouldn't get it done today (so sad), but back in OUR day, it ruled!... God Bless Seals & Crofts for what they gave us...pure magic~
@jillyhawk Yes, but many of the "Oldies" are still touring and succeeding and getting it done live in concert. I sure am glad I grew up with groups like Seals & Crofts. Those days sure conflict with our modern culture of Howard Stern, Jerry Springer, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, steroid injected athletes, etc. This world has not had a moral compass (beginning with my generation) because we have been told for the last 40 years that nothing is wrong and nothing is right.
RE: Joe Smith, he was one of te last great record men, and afront office anomaly in his time, who indeed made money, after all he ran one of the most talent-centric labels of all time. That label stood by those guys for 3 albums before recouping. Try to find that now anywhere in the biz.The ignorant haters of this man obviously know nothing of his career and likely based on that type of backwards thinking attitude will have no career of their own.
Back in the days that you needed talent to succeed in the music business. These 2 are simply overflowing with it. I really need to check them out at the casino next time they come to Minnesota..
I remember the first time I saw them was on a show on PBS. They did an instrumental that was mostly mandolin. I can't for the life of me remember the name but I sure can remember the melody.
This takes me back to Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, NJ 1975, I believe. Poco, Seals & Crofts and The Eagles, whew, what a lineup! Schmidt and Furay were with Poco, and Joe Walsh made one of his early appearences with The Eagles that night. The last song was "You Get the Best of My Love", and Dan Foegelberg and J.D. Souther came out to sing.
The problem is: Seals and Crofts sounded really great, until they were big with the record company. Once they got a conctract, their music suffered and became to poppy.
these guys started as horn players in jazz bands, couldn't make money so reinvented themselves as songwriting harmony singers and string multiinstrumentalists - they are so incredibly talented - I HATE THEM!!!!!!!!!
to conclude: This asshole in a white sweater and a bad haircut recorded Seals & Crofts only as long as they would keep bringing him and his company money. This record company type makes me sick. Who was the last artist labels recorded and pushed sheerly through the merits of hardwork and talent, may I ask?
That president of WB is full of shit, talking about "paying your dues" as an ingredient for success. Most musicians pay their dues a thousand fold without monetary success, with amazing talent and endless belief in themselves-and anyone fool can tell you that much.
I saw this two gents and their band in Chattanooga, TN during the 1970s. They started this very song, and much to my surprise, stopped after perhaps 4 bars of intro and made a soft comment to make a sound adjustment. Apparently, one of the locals had made a mistake on the band's sound board. Seconds later, with the correction made, they played everything in their book flawlessly. These two guys are truly superb musicians. Class act. Perfect music. What a pleasure.
These guys sound great. Reminds me of my youth. Good memories. Wish i could go back to those days. 70's is the best music ever. There will never be another era like it.
I know i mite be the youngest to leave a comment but summer breeze change my life i wish i could tell them that

Hearing this talk from Joe Smith, that's what the music industry used to stand for. Nowadays it's look good with no talent at all.
