I know right?... some people just don't HAVE a sense of humor. I bet Tal would laugh at it. Its not like she doesn't know she does that. Nobody appreciates her work more than I do.
I play bass, and I don't have breasts (a little man boob maybe) so I can't hang a breast over the thing, so excuse me for noticing. What's better than listening to her play, AND getting to watch too ?
Well played :) Tal Wilkenfeld is really good, hope she'll get even better in future (she's just 23). You'd better do something about your right hand wrist position, unless you don't wont to have serious health problems.
I don't really have much of a problem with either these days. I just don't play enough to do SERIOUS damage. Not to mention I'm conscious of the whole thing. Take care.
the bass is not easier to learn on guitar, yes there are less strings (usually but you can get 6 string and even more on bass) but unlike guitar which is almost always played with a plec a bass can be played with many different techniques and to master alot of these takes a hell of alot of practice slap and popping for expample takes a while to get the accuracy to hit the string etc, so its debatable wheather guitar is harder i personally dont tihnk so o and tht convo bout flea, he is the best!!
As a bass player I can tell you that it's FAR more difficult to move the strings and your left hand around the fingerboard than it is to do so on the guitar. It's more than twice the distance and the strings are WAY heavier!
i wuldnt say its far more difficult the strings are heavier yh and a hell of alot thicker aswell the thinest string on a bass is thicker then the thickest on a guitar but i dnt think the size of the string makes a big dif to bass and guitar but yh gettin ya hand round a bass fret board is hard there much bigger then guitar ones spesh if u hve a bass wit more then 4 strings
She looks so young in here compaired to her other videos. But what a player, its very rare to see a female bass player especially at such a young age, definately one to watch!
Cool,,,,,,, I would not call her a prodigy though. She is an adult. It is like calling John Bonham a prodigy. Save that for kids. Peace on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
No, not in my thoughts. I was an adult at 16, lived on my own. Had no choice. I played decent (nothing like her) at 13 but still, a prodigy is a child. She was an acomplished guitarist first. Bass is two strings less. She rocks. Enough said. Peace on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You're absolutely right. Because there are less strings, that makes the instrument easier to learn. Yeah, and anyone who plays a bass is really just someone who couldn't hack guitar, right?
The guitar and bass are both the same fretboard with different roles. Bass is two less strings which, in a way, gives the fretboard a simpler approach. So to go from the guitar to bass is more of a matter of developing the technique and role as opposed to learning the basis of music like a beginning musician like where's the major 9 or what the hell a arpeggio is. And as with any instrument, there's the opportunity to be unique. Count it!
I'm a working rhythm/lead guitarist, but I play bass for a set, and whenever else I can because it's fun (and my secret passion)! ;)
But Tal is incredible. I bow to her goddesslike ability on bass, regardless of age or sex.
I honestly think that she played Jeff's bass lines better than anyone I've ever heard, and probably better than Jeff Beck expected. Seriously. I'm a longtime Beck fan :)
... and I think I like her compositions just as much. This bass line is seriously cosmic :)
Good playing. Keep it up! I'm glad more girls and women are taking up bass and other stringed instruments. I've played bass since the 80s (and have since then come a long way). It was a pain being a chick player then. No one took you seriously. But the minute guys heard me play, they'd be like, "DAAMMMN!" Glad that is all changing. Good for you girl.
I think the hate for Flea is a kind of counter-reaction to all the hype he gets.
80% of all non-bass players seem to think that he is by far the best bassist in the world, to which a lot of bass players (myself included) disagree.
Not that he isn't cool for maintaining relative complexity in bass lines of pop-music. He gets my respect for that and I find him to be a nice ambassador for the bass as he is exposed to a pretty large crowd. But the greatest in the world? Not to me.
No, He's definitely not the best but as I said he's my favorite. After you reach a certain level on an instrument it's not really about who's better or who's best. It's just who you like the most.
well said. flea may not be technically be the greatest bassist ever, but i refer to him as such, because id rather watch him play rather than anyone else
I met her (TAL) at NAMM 2008. She was the biggest bitch in the world. She can play VERY well, and has heart. But for God's sake, get a personality and at least, be pleasant.
I just said "hello", and she said "I'm not doing pictures right now". I said: "I didn't ask for a picture, I am just recognizing your incredible talent". She says, "so what. Get lost "American".
Especially Unison Sax and Guitar or keyboard... it's a trademark.. WR and Spyro Gyra hehehe!
and the slow song (with brushes) sounds like Gary Burton and friends but without him, the first song of the album it's 100% W. Krantz Tal she's my hero!
