I remember this one so well. I was too young to fully understand the gravity or why the boy killed himself.I recall Colin taking over the Gazette after this and calling it 'The Gaz' before the rest of the team beg Lynda to come back. The other episode I remember well is one where a bomb goes off in a club (I think) and a young girl is buried under rubble.Spike tries in vain to get her out and keeps her company until she dies of suffocation. V.sad show@times.Funny it's those eps I can't forget!
I've only watched a bit of 'Press Gang' (it was mentioned on one of the Hotmail list for one of the best teen shows of all time and since then, I've been watching what I could find on Youtube). What I've seen so far, it is pretty brilliant. I'm a big fan of Julia Swahlia in general, but she is great in this, as indeed, all of them are.
Wow - I'm sat here, utterly amazed at how good this prog was!!! Thank god for good actors and brave writing. I'm really missing it now....*wanders onto Amazon* ;)
I remember this episode even though I was only 6 when it was first shown! Probably too young to understand it at the time. It's a shame that there is no kids tv on terrestrial channels these days, citv used to show some great programmes, it amazes me how they got away with showing a suicide themed episode of a children's tv show at about half 4 in the afternoon! Sadly that probably could not happen in this age of ridiculous complaint culture. Thank God I grew up with some decent kids tv shows!
It's so cool to hear that Press Gang stands the test of time even with people who never saw it as a teen. I remember being glued to the set every Thursday after school. We grew up with it - we learned how to be teens from it!
I'm 24, so I was too young for Press Gang when it originally aired, and never watched it.
I'm a television reviewer now and have pretty much seen everything there is. I know the ins and outs of good serial storytelling.
So I can say with confidence that this, dated though it now seems, is an eye opener. The script is perfect, and I'm buying the show on DVD right this second.
Television in the 1980s and early 90s was generally dire; Press Gang was way ahead of its time.
The part-with-money thing has always been my intention, and is also the reason I'm not putting the whole series up - far be it from me to want to cheat the wonderful Steven Moffat from a single penny. But who on earth is going to buy a DVD if they've never seen any episodes?

Totally! My Amazon order just went through. :-D
I forgot to say it in my last comment, but thanks so much for uploading this AMAZING show and giving people like me a chance to see what it's like.
This is why studios should be a little less antsy about clips on Youtube: you just made me part with money!

What I like about this program is that it sounds happy and jolly, but actually is a tragic story
