  • The whole song is good, but the closing section beginning around 3:00 is just perfection. The soaring sound of the music, the way the strings, horns, and perscussion are layered. Pure bliss!

  • Good solid music! This stuff is timeless!

  • I love this song !. Helped me threw a hard time ,.and takes me back to examine those days. The feelings I had and the feelings I still have . She will never know my pain . Sad, she lost a love, She never even knew she had . Thanks Lionel Richie :) Write me a song about alienation . its gonna be a hot topic this year we all hope. 33 years of alienation of my daughter by She .

  • Very cool..... what more can anyone say about this.

  • Lionel Richie looks like one of those lego people with a helmet on...

Those dudes staring at me w/ bedroom eyes are giving me the creeps, it reminds me of that time when I was in prison...

  • @BrianLeo666 say no more convict!!!

  • bought this 45' single around 1979/1980....... and still love this song today in 2012.

  • Sail on B-otch.

  • Lionel Richie's divorce.

  • At 3:18 the bassist was about to sing "sugar" and was like "whoops everyone else is singing 'honey'" and looks at Lionel to see if he was busted but it was all good. He didn't notice. Sail on, fellas!

  • @YN3TMK His name is Ron LaPread. But too funny.

  • @smoothnubian he has always been man, That was Michael Jackson Who turned white!! the news tried to play it off that he had "A skin condition that causes A lack of pigmentation to the skin, but that was bull. I went to school with A guy that has that condition and IT'S NOT INTERMITTENT! Michael WAS A good looking guy (look at the cover of "she's out of my life") he didn't have that discoloration till he was burned BADLY in A pepsi commercial. It was probably what led to addiction

  • video is hilarious, great song

  • the greatest

  • makes me want to date someone briefly and then break up with them again just so i can sing this to them. amazing song.

  • the only art that outdoes this song is this video. holy cowabunga

  • Classic video and song..omg they actually sing..play musical instruments..write their own songs and best of all no putrid rap..i thought music was always suppossed to evolve into something better..not always true,,no swagger..no flow..no tats...just great musical talent

  • greatest

  • The drummer doesnt smile - looks the coolest

  • Good times never felt so good....

  • All of you are idiots, this is just good music. It doesn't matter who sang it...that's right i said sang. If you're a REAL music lover you'll understand! that when it comes to good music it has not color, this is why music is universal. please get a clue.

  • Love this song. Can't believe the negativity on the posts here though. It's music people, do we really need to post comments that take away from the enjoyment of the music? I know if I don't like it don't read it. But if you don't like it don't post ignorant messages if you haven't done something better yourself musically.

  • First time I heard this song!!

    Love it!

  • Boom Shacka Lacka Lacka Boom Shacka Lacka Lacka, Shes ah Brick House, she mahtahmatey, just letin it all drain out. owwwwwe, git down on it, woo woo, git down owne it.

  • They musta been listening to a lot of white music from the era. Musically this sounds like Jackson Browne or Linda Ronstadt, not Kool & The Gang or EWF.

  • @JRRjrrr You were fucking a crack whore on glue dude.... you are clueless and WISH they were listening to crackers from this song.

  • @SuperSteelydanfan oh go fuck yourself. what the hell do you know? I don't "wish" they were listening to anything. personally I don't care. unless you're one of the commodores how do you know what they were listening to? but this is white music, they even sing it like whitey sang it. and don't call me cracker you dumb ass nigger.

  • @JRRjrrr WTF see back then singers were versatile meaning they could sing different genre's and do all of them well. this was way before auto tune as well so you had to actually be able to sing and most actually played instruments.

  • classic

  • Wow, over the years about the Commodores, how popular they were, and I knew Lionel was a member, but until now I never realized how many songs of there's I liked or heard.

  • he's all heart. and talent. and soul. and...i just love Lionel and this song gets better the older we get - how's that for good?

  • man so many old stuff can be found in the youtube that have been forgotten but re-born for the old generation to remember and the young ones to know what have the golden days were like back then

  • This makes me actually proud to be from Alabama :) Lionel to this day you are STILL amazing!

  • Damn those are talented guys. I wish there were more groups like this now, but alas a lot the people who are having the most success in the music world these days can't sing or play instruments. And a record player is not an instrument.

  • Afros need a comeback!

  • compared to the dude he is standing beside at the beginning he looks white

  • Lionel Ritchie ain't been black since he left the commadores.....lol

  • gifted Lionel...that voice!

  • love this

  • Those were the days.

  • beautiful....

  • This video went viral on Montenegro

  • How did such a beautiful thing turn into what it is today?.. What, Adam Lambert and that dude that sings about lightning bugs n shit could ever be this emotive, this passionate?

  • @gumlover4321 y did u click on the video some people r ignorant

  • @Dorii50 If Gumlover lived in the 70's and 80's he wouldn't of posted what he did

  • SORPRENDENTE Y LLENO DE CALIDAD,LAS CAGAN LOCO.

  • EWWW MY EARS R BLEEDING!!!!WERE SKRILLEX WHEN U NEED HIM?

  • @gumlover4321 you are a dickhead

  • Beautiful.

  • Kobe Bryant sang this song this week..

  • Amazing! Lionel RIchie great artist ;)

  • As a kid, you listen to a lot of songs, but you don't quite understand the lyrics 'til a few years later. That Lionel Richie is quite a talent.

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the 70's

  • Dig those threads and doos. Some things about the 70s I dont miss as much....

  • good divorce song

  • @meremere74 A great divorce song xo

  • @ValentinoJoseph Couldn't agree more.

  • Destiny's Child Served This Classic Justice

  • My girlfriend in 1980 wa sJoanne- what a cute loveable darling! We listened to this time know she has a better life than I could have provided her at that time. My music taste remains the same!

  • I want everyone to know....I'm looking for a good time!!!

  • Write a song like this Lady Gaga.......

  • Priceless.

  • I Remember when this came out ....I loved it then and i love it even more now ....this song makes me appreciate the finer things in life like the oldies

  • magical vocals

  • I think this song was written for a friend (going through a divorce).

  • My favorite song he does. Melacholy but still sort of an uplifting song. I think the Good Times part is kind of ironic though. Like the good times aren't real or are gonna last. Kind of a complex emotional song. I think thats what I like so much about it.

  • @terrybeaton

I think you're right about the complex part...so many times we over-complicate the perfect cup of tea.

  • this song is a Masterpiece...

  • @ENEMENCIO123VISION

Commadors rocked when I was in college. Oops... I just let on to my age. Listening to this brings back good memories.

  • @texreddog1 thats awesome man... very awesome...

  • who knows how good these guys could have been if lionel would have stayed

  • Holy shit!! These guys are PLAYIN INSTRUMENTS!!! What a concept!! GREAT SONG!!

  • Such a beautiful melody.

  • @Tacomadome24 yeah it is, solid gold!!! you can feel this stuff!!! =))

  • Ditto Rich

  • Great song. And I never noticed it before, but Lionel Richie looks like he could be Allen Iverson's dad.

  • @superbuick he is, iverson is his mother's name

  • How many weddings have you heard this divorce song at? That's when you know a song is damn good. Great writer.

  • this vid looks like karaoki at my local lol

  • By far, the worst (& Gene Simmons & Lyle Lovett) hairstyle in music...

  • way too good

  • My father and mother first started off in Maywood, Il. I was raised on the Commodores and other great acts of the 70's. I miss those days so much.

  • the greatness of Lionel's stache.... Viva la moustache revoluccion!!!!!

  • So real.

  • Lionel - one of lifes finest - the Commodores - one of lifes. SAIL ON FOREVER

  • ahhhh.....

  • This is such an incredible song and very underrated and incredibly talented band.

  • He has a fucking mushroom head

  • I love song so cool beautiful video

  • ...and now I know where Gene Simmons got his hair style.

  • Thruogh this, I can detect the Carribbean influence in Mr. Richie's music. I liked hearing this when I was in Downtown Portland in 1979. Nice job, guys!

  • @kja427 I actually see this more as a country song, especially with the vocals and the guitar. Great song though.

  • Amen to that rottingdog!! Things were so much better then, but of course we were kids and our parents hated our music. Fast forward to today...he hate our grandkids "music". And I am sure they will hate their kids mucis as well.

Just close your eyes and let the music take you back...and enjoy!

  • cool!

  • we made so much progression since the '60 ties and 70' ties, but apparently not in music... why is the music in this era soooo much better then nowadays? can somebody explain?

  • @AthClaith you should just say "in the 60's and 70's.... when someone reads that it sounds like " in the sixty ties and seventy ties"

  • music was music then

  • @baddog325 Same to you my friend. Good sould rise to top. It may take a while but I truly believe that. We ALL have to because the alternative is too destructive. I would give my life in a second for ANY good and decent person. And I would just walk away (and nothing more) from ANY asshole.

  • @joediver1119 People on booze should not drive.

  • @kingfucter and douchebags should be shot but somehow you remain bullet free

  • @joediver1119 Actually, I am a tax paying American, providing free medication to nut cases...Like you. Get off your soap-box & take your meds.

  • What ever happened to good ole music with a meaning, screw RAPPERS they ruin the good times......................Denny Koch Lou Ky

  • OMG I LUV THIS SONG!!! SAAAAAAAIL ON!!

  • Amazing how one of favorite songs from 1979 can be so true again!

  • who is the guy with the fro singing with Lionel?

  • @EpicChick5 That's lead guitarist Thomas McClary, one of the truly underrated guitarists of his time. The problem with the Commodores as a group recognition-wise is that even though every member was an extraordinarily talented musician they existed in the shadow of an all-time great in Lionel Richie. Kind of the George Harrison deal - even though he was a GENIUS himself he had to deal with the fact that standing next to him were arguably the 2 greatest figures in rock history. Lennon&McCartney.

  • @joediver1119 ahh ok

  • @EpicChick5 And dont even get me started on Ringo Starr who needs to kiss the Lords entire ass the day he dies because he is without a doubt the LUCKIEST bastard who EVER lived. ANYBODY could have played drums for the Beatles!

  • @joediver1119 not true, lol they wouldn't have sounded the same :p

  • people were less uptight about race and stereotypes back then i think cos i did'nt know anyone in the 70's who did'nt like the commodores. no one cared what color they were. i went to scholl with black kids who liked hank williams and johnny cash. we are MORE divided and less FREE now than we were in the old "racist" days, it's a myth at least as far as how i grew up

  • this song was how i felt after i got divorced and it made it possible to make it through

  • It sounds like a 'country' song? Great tunes from Lionel&Co

  • cheap video, great song!

  • You can't find groups like this anymore, nor can you find such excellent music. Thank God that he allowed me to grow up on this music. I love it. This is what you call music.

  • @TheDetri1 Never so well told. I think at that time Lionel Ritchie and the Commodores were at the peak of their game.

  • when music was music...

  • Wow, never seen an Afro that grows downwards before..

  • @serentonin lol

  • See what you can do if you learn to play instruments before you start selling recordings?

  • good song

  • What a way to tell somebody to get the hell away from me! Excellent song!

  • c est une realite ki s'impose a nous!!!! amour a sens unik!

  • Wish the rapper artists would listen to REAL music like the Commodores.

  • this ish go HARD...makes me wanna pick up a guitar!!!!

  • Brings back child hood memories..

  • this is the shit

  • wow, music i can understand. they used to make music like this? amazing

  • so glad i clicked on this vid accidentally :)
