The problem with the Commodores as a group recognition-wise is that even though every member was an extraordinarily talented musician they existed in the shadow of an all-time great in Lionel Richie. Kind of the George Harrison deal - even though he was a GENIUS himself he had to deal with the fact that standing next to him were arguably the 2 greatest figures in rock history. Lennon&McCartney.
