  • Wow this engine sounds and behaves like my beloved VTEC, I'd say the engagement point is even more extreme. But alas, my H22 is faster :)

  • @goldijun I think its cuz toyota has something like vtec called vvti or something like that. Idk much about toyota though, im more of a honda guy, k20 ftw!

    just the fact that the RB can handle much more power stock, has 2 extra cylinders, larger displacement, and twin turbos. I own a 00 GT-S, but I would take a RB over a 2zz any day. Don't get me wrong the 2zz is great engine, I just dont see it as special as most Toyota people would like to make it out to be even though I would consider it to be Toyota's last great performance engine. Want an awesome 4cyl and got some cash, go F20. On a budget, B18 or B20.

  • I was replying to theshadowrazors comment. Obviously it's not from a dig i'm not fucking retarded. He didn't even give it full throttle till 20

  • he didn't start accelerating until 4 seconds, in which he was at 20....from a standing start, it should only take about 1.5 seconds to get to 20, and he hit 60 at around 8.5 seconds. Simple math equates this to around a 6.0 to 6.5 0 to sixty time. Actually interpret a video before you start blabbing your mouth.....

  • Well the Type S (aside from the S2000) is one of the fastest "all motor cars" straight from the factory, with about 210HP rated at stock. The base RSX with i-Vtec has 160HP.

    Most RSX owners are typically douchebags, case in point yourself.

  • they are not the same thing. Vtec changes the cam profiles so that the valves will stay opened longer. VVTL-i changes cam profile variably as well as "lifts" the intake valve right before the exhaust valve closes in order to create low pressure inside the cylinder "sucking" air from the intake side.

  • yer thats true that is. the vtec has a third cam follower so when you get into the vtec they all lock together and you get the longer duration of inlet and exhaust valves opening pretty neat huh

  • gt-s's can be fest, don't get yourself wrong. people @ our forum have gotten over 200 n/a and over 500 w/ boost...non-stock internals, of course. gotta think power to weight ratio...they only weigh in @ 2450lbs stock. w/o a turbo they're not a torque monster, but still, with the right mechanics/tuners and the right price, you can get any car running 11-12's in the 1/4.

  • YYYEEAHHHH BOYYYYYY stayed in lift! i got an 03 celica GTS turbo'd to 497bhp. the turbo took care of the mediocre low end torque problem (306 lb ft@2700rpm, 433 peak at 6500rpm) tested my baby on da dynoz ^_^

  • lolz thx. gas mileage really isnt that bad, tho. get around 21-26 mpg if im not racin around. and yeh, im real lucky i didnt blow my motor XD. lets see... got a 8psi garett GT32, tri-y turbo manifold, AEM FIC fuel injector controller, and the struts, valves, harnesses, and guages were all special ordered from japan. i got cousins in da racing buisnees there ^^ im running on at least 10000 US on upgrades here, but its one schweet ride.

  • Ok well i have a 2001 toyota celica jap import runs well over 200 bhp with about 3000 spent on just the engine now for what most people dont know the toyota celica says its 1.8 but it uses the same engine tech as a ferrari ENZO yes a 500,000 pound car the toyota celica at 5000rpm goes from a 1.8lt to a 2.4 and my car was done at weston performance if you want to take a look at there site

    The GT-S still has more hp/L than the 350z...

    The celica is 1.8L , 180hp = 100 hp/L

    The 350Z is 3.5L , 300hp = 300:3.5 = 85.7 hp/L

    sooo if nissan were to design an engine with a identical design to the 350Z's , but 1.8L, is would have 1.8 X 85.7 = 154.3 HP

  • hp/liter doesn't mean shit. I had a Jetta VR6 with a 2.8L "inline" V6 that only put out 175hp and 185torque. I walked on Celica GT-S's all day long. HP sells cars, torque wins races. Chew on that man.

  • i own a 2000 gt-s and i gotta say that is quick shifting - i'm don't think i take the revs high enough to stay on the high cam....i think it sounds slightly like a motorbike when in high cam (lift) mode....the engine was developed by yamaha....i often wonder if this has summin to do with it? what ya think?

  • no, variable valve timing. its pretty much a another version of VTEC, but its LIFt and way better. the engine is going from low compression to high compression. or high compression to low. i forgot which one/

  • Yamaha makes the engine but its toyota's VVTL-I that gives the surge from 6000 (early model GT-S)and 6200 for the rest.

  • the car is make in japan so all the parts are JDM even the engine itself. ^^ I did a little research on it and well .. pretty much the car is made from japan but I couldn't still find why the one in japan are 200BHP and t hese in the US are 180BHP...
