  • Electrifying!

  • Bowie 1987: Dont take me for my own, only take me for reference..."

Dieser Mensch ist ein großer Verführer, eine Matrix unserer Sehnsüchte, a devil

charming ,building you from the ground up, a loveless isle...

On stage he gives you moments of truth , fate, love... A karma man...

  • @thesaviourmachine Stimmt...

  • Finest version ever!

  • Mike is one of the greatest musician 'cause he's capable to play very soft and simple despite his wonderful technique!!!

  • There's an empty chair in my Heaven and I'll look forward to chatting with you and picking your wonderful brains

  • perfeito impecável

  • This is perfection...

  • World without Bowie would be like heaven without the stars... and the moon...

  • @warhols25 In a world without David Bowie there wouldn't even be a heaven....forget about the stars!

  • Genius!

  • Nothing beat this artist!

  • can't match Scott - no way !

  • His voice.... sigh.... His voice!!

  • just perfect

  • Love the song - but Jacques Brel didn't do Jazz - and neither should David.

  • Bowie крут.

  • one love Nicky from Frankfurt

  • If I'm not starting crying at "Rock'n'Roll Suicide" this one gives me the rest... ;_;

  • Wow..just great!

  • When I sing, I add a Bowie-esque falsetto to my pitch. Does this make me a bad man?

  • @policemanandrew , I hope not, if our policemen are bad then we're all in the shit..

  • when is he going to release a new album?

he hasn't lost his awesome ness!

  • UNBULIVEBLE!!!!!!!!!! Love this song!!!!!!!!!

  • mindblowing bowie at his finest...goosebump time :)

  • You can tell by his facial expressions that this song and this specific performance touched Bowie!

  • No over the top theatrics required, no dancing girls to distract & no arena flashing light display necessary. Just a marvellously sophisticated band with a front man as compelling as there has ever been delivering a fascinating performance. I'm sure Jacques Brel would be immensely proud to see his song delivered with such precision & power.

"In a man's life there are two impotant dates : his birth and his death. Everything we do in between is not very important". Jacques Brel 1929 - 1978.

  • Since three weeks or so, I am spending all my spare time on (re)discovering

the oeuvre of this genius. With this song and performance, I have found another gem I did not know before. I am overwhelmed,

  • @ezaube1030 It's been 10 months now, and I am still discovering and discovering David Bowie, can't get enough :-) wow he is so gorgeous, and in the meantime I have found even some more stunning live performances he did of this song during his Outside tour, really marvellous ones.... !

  • Must be my 50th listen by now - 35 yrs and i'm still lovin' you. XX

  • Drums to metronome like and mixed up too high.

  • The First time i heard this song was 20 years ago,was amazing, but this one is different,he changes the voice even the team is another. Is one livetrack that I like too much. The two versions are beautifuls. Thanks,Bowie, you're grat.

  • Do not forget Brel!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, indeed I like this version better than the 1973, grason's keyboard and this somewhat dragging beat give it an amazing aura.

Scott Walker is nothing short of a perfected Frak Sinatra with Zappa's art, almost inhuman. Bowie has meant so much to me though!

  • ES UNA HERMOSA CANCION DE SCOTT WALKER ENFRENTANDO SUS MIEDOS.

Y ESTA CANTADA MAGISTRALMENTE POR UN REY.

  • You know fine well that i wait for you, davie, for the thing`s that you have thoughtfully planned so well.good or bad.

All that i know is this,my left arm is now considerably weaker and my right eye is damaged.

Thnx for that lightning strike, cause and effect alway`s have reason`s.

See you sometime in the future(or is it you`re past)

  • Though this is a beautiful version, I think I like the 1973 one more. Both are haunting and beautifully sang (sung? My grammar abandoned me for a bit...), but in 1973 he was really about to "kill" Ziggy Stardust, and I feel that in the way he sings.

  • Well, I guess he sang this "hauting version" all over the world and, all around the world, we fans shouted, at the end of the song, "Me! Me!" ;-)

  • breaks my heart makes me laugh bowie is better than god :))

  • this rocks in a way that only a genius can, transforming earlier perfection.

  • God David Bowie hs incredible voice! Ilove him ,what can I say?

  • Can this version be purchased? Not itunes.

  • santa monica > this.. does bowie like ruining his songs? dont look at 90's andy warhol whatever you do.

  • He should stop playing to click tracks - the "wooden" drums let this down !

  • I don't agree with the majority of opinion about this version. The rigid rhythym and multiple instruments detract from the intimate, personal lyric. It has much greater impact when performed by one person playing one instrument.. The drums, especially, are particularly distracting.

  • Hauntingly beautiful. David only improves with age, the soothing mellowness in his voice sweeps me away. Thank you so much for posting this amazing video. : )

  • Oh my God! The end... what can I say? I'm in tears again. I have always loved this song and found a new favorite version of it! His emotion and feeling is what made me fall for him and I find myself falling all over again.

  • If you don´t know what charisma means, just look at this. His live performances make him the greatest artist of the past four decades.

  • exquisite !

  • Great Version - Thank YOU

  • Wuzza wuzza!

  • I have to listen to this every so often. he puts so much emotion into this song and the arrangement is just incredible. The perfect mix.

  • I can't stand withholding this anymore...MARRY ME (TOO) BOWIE..IT'S NOT TOOOOOO LATE.....

  • i want this song played at my funeral

  • Garson actually looks like he has perfect piano fingers.

Apparently he did the solo for Alad insane in one take.

    Magical stuff!

  • A genius

  • This gezzer is in a different class to everyone else, his like will not be seen again!

  • mike garson iz a wizzard, you can hear aladdin sane in every touch of the key. a beautifuful player in his own wright

  • David Bowie is absolutely perfect, and also Garson! WONDERFUL

  • I like it,, but in my opinion accustic performance from 73' is the best.

  • brill version, you can hear the haunting tinkles ov the brill mr garson, from aladdin days..

  • ABOYINSANE, you got that right!!!

  • Amazing magical !!!

  • where does this video come from? how can I get a copy???

  • I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is just as good as, maybe even better than, the legendary Ziggy Stardust version from '72. I didn't even know this version existed until now. The drumbeat gives the song a sinister air and Bowie's vocals give me chills. Listening to Bowie in this version, there's a sense of maturity in his voice, as if all his life experiences have culminated into one beautiful performance. Thanks for uploading this :).

  • @PockyBebop

agree - yr comment is up to the point -

ziggy was nice - but this song needs more.

Bowie is the one and only anglo-chansonnier - and...and....more

  • thanx for posting this - i couldn't even say it better...

  • No problem. I just wanted to put my heart into the comment, because I love Bowie's rendition of this song.

  • @PockyBebop I do Agree that this is amazing, but the 73 performance was just unique and full of a kind of magic that only his life back then could produce....this is of course a wonderful REMIX by the master himself:-)

  • What for a voice... Amazing!!!

  • this version is not bad, but the original is great!

  • great version. bowie is top cat. come back soon mr B

  • I Will Drink to that david......and the Passing Time....A long Long Time..

Angel or Devil I dont Care..as long as we have You...........

  • What an incredible song. I wish I was brave enough to have this played at my own funeral.

  • Beautiful composition....but then I enjoy Brel too...

  • who is the author of this song? isn't Bowie's, is it?

  • Jacques Brel wrote the original in french

  • thanx!

  • I love his deep and emotional voice here... So different but still eerily beautiful. This is one of my favourite sings of all time. x

  • Versión inigualable

  • Gorgeousity made flesh; David Bowie.

  • Brilliant! i adore this man!

  • at the end, you can tell he's hesitating, waiting to see what the crowd was going to do. he seemed to be hoping they wouldn't all say "me" at the end, and you can see his sense of regret that they did.

  • Actually, I think he hesitates cos it's bringing back memories of the 1972 performance when all the adoring fans screamed "me" - cos he knows he is becoming closer to death, so the song has more meaning... :D

  • and the top of the top as musicians of course! Gabrels and Carson. What an explosive duo. Gail is...geil (insider ;-) )

  • Is this the Outside-period? Bowie back at his best after Scary Monsters and Let's dance ('commercial' but so unique :-)). Unfortunately for the last time (very personal opinion) when it comes to songwriting. The best voice ever of course.

  • why always comparig versions? this is great, it would be boring playing always the same in the same way since 1972.

this was one of the best periods in bowie's career, with reeves gabrels on guitar.

  • "throw him a dime for the passing time........ Jeez, i love David singing that song...Beautiful.....

  • This will never touch his Ziggy Stardust version. v_v

  • Such cool vocals in this! It's amazing

  • ummm...Scott "wins".

  • The ULTIMATE performer covering a bloody well written song, if anyone can achieve this status of rockgod then I tip my hat, David Bowie is by far the greatest ever singer/song writer. What a version What a legend!!

  • "David Bowie is by far the greatest ever singer/song writer. What a version What a legend!!"

    I agree.

  • Now more than just a sad song.

  • Written by Brel me knows, adaptation in english walker (first adaptation). As a matter of fact Brel gave some songs and notes to Scott and he made one album of Brel songs in english..

    Cheers!

  • this is scott walker original, but very nice cover

  • Written by Jaques Brel a Belgiun artist, copied by many others that Bowie and Walker.

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't say i didn't appreciate David Bowie, he's made some fantastic stuff. I have even seen him live AS Ziggy Stardust and had a dog called Bowie, lol! I just hated this though.

  • Mike Garson is a genius.

  • Fantastic Version - thanks for posting it X

  • i love bowie-!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great version - even better than the Ziggy one - but I wish he would sing "...angel" in the manner he did in the song "Young Americans" (if he can still reach falsetto!); it would be such a great contrast to the rest of the chorus.

Anybody else notice he is taking a lot of vocal cues from Scott Walkers treatment?

    Only me, then...

  • overwhelmed

  • Bowie always gives us a different version. Mike Garson is the perfect theatrical accompaniment to him. Though this is not his own song this has always been so haunting in Bowie's hands. Great.

  • Fuckin frikin great ooh Bowie puts me on fire

  • Heaven knows his angels down here, hope he stays longer to profide us with his heavenly voice..Thank god for someone special as Boie hope he lives long...love this song, this voice, this men..

  • Personally, I don't think he's ever touched Scott Walker's version. I love him, but this is not what he's best at.

  • Hey boys n girls - thats just awesome!

It starts a bit strange but gets much better through the song.

  • for those who didn't like this... you guys have no insight what so ever!

  • è DIVINOOOO!!!!!

  • Such cool vocals in this! It's amazing

  • I'm getting this weird jazz-wibes from this... but that's maybe only me. Anyhow, I like the 73's version better.

  • omg I have tears David I Love You

  • What control...he really delivers

  • This version is simply breathtaking...wonderful...David You Are The Duke Now And Forever..

  • David is timeless

  • For now...

    Lol :D

  • Droyd, Are you the one who sent me mail? Im still learning how all this works lol

Anyway ty Its Friday night and I spent it with Bowie through tears and smiles I have been so mesmerized that tomm morning im ordering some Bowie dvd's and cd's

    Have a great weekend

  • I replied to one of your messages which youtube forwards automatically to your email (I suppose).

And have a great weekend yourself :)

  • Hi!I had have a gift, got all Bowie had put in the web (17CDs with something that 17/18 songs in each CD)+ the albums that I had bought before this gift, without talking of the 15 vynils, but this song is the song that I've discovered 2 weeks ago only!He really had written many, many songs,I'm a fan since 1979/1980 and ther's still songs that I don't know) This "Jazz version" is awesome! THKS to have bring it on youtube!

  • mike garson is and was always perfect for bowie. Who's the drummer?

  • Yeah, whose that??

  • Zachary Alford, played with Bowie in Outside and Earthling albums

  • Zach Alford

  • Mike Garson is a revelation. Cudos to DB for having the sense to keep him nearby. Gail too!

  • couldnt agree more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good stuff

  • Great piano solo, and of course great vocals from Mr. Bowie. Dare I say, this is even better than the Ziggy version.

  • why does he lower his voice so much here. like after a while ziggy comes out but then he lowers his voice again. i dont get why.

  • Its because he got older, and his voice got lower, he couldn't sing the way he did in his ziggy days, so he adapted, and made i better, thats the bowie genius

  • actually i read somewhere he said it was because he wanted to develop a new style of his own and wanted to shake off his old personna.

  • What an absolute class act this man is......fantastic thanks for posting.

  • all of the below... total Bowie

  • Nothing can stop Bowie from resting on his pile of money;his constant creative mind always comes up with the most astounding, excellent, awesome music and lyrics with concepts.A True Marvel;i am creating a sci-fi/fictional darker comic graphic novel with the protaganist based on David Bowie's resemblance.

  • absolutly magnificent... thats the master!!

  • Magistral versión del tema My Death que ya interpretara en los 70

  • Jacques Brel did write this song but Bowie chjanged some of the lyrics around. Lines like the below are not in the original version.

"my death waits there between your thighs,

your cool fingers will close my eyes

lets think of that and the passing time

my death waits to allow my friends

a few good times before it ends so"

  • Bowie changed the lyris???? no he didn't.. these lyrics appeared on the best version of the song,, this one is really good but can't touch the Scott Walker version,,,,

  • Try watching the Ziggy version

  • Yeah, but not the famous on the farewell video.

There's a better version, also called "David Bowie My Death" on youtube.

  • Yea, it's version from gig in Santa Monica in 1972.

  • lol who's Scott Walker?

+ I think it's better than the other versions...

even the Jacques Brel one! (which in my opinion is the 2nd best version)

    :D

  • awesome to hear those two playing together once again

  • nice one o_O

  • Did Jacques Brel write this song?

  • Think so.

  • Yes, the original is "Le Mort" by Jacques Brel. It is also in the off broadway show "Jacques Brel is Alive and well and Living in Paris". Brilliant, powerful song. Can be interpreted in so many different ways.

  • Always amazed me how Bowie finds so many different ways of interpreting a song. Guess he must get bored quickly!!

  • Sophisticated, dark, haunting....wonderful!

  • this is extremely dark and david bowie performance is sensational

  • I love the Ziggy version BUT this is even better!!! OH WOW!!! MY HERO

  • Oh to have been there. I sooo wish I'd been there.

  • i prefer the ziggy version...

  • Love this so much sounds amazing- David Bowie still has what it takes

  • Bowie is o so Sexy!

  • I usually can't get enough of his deep voice like he has here, but I almost like the Ziggy version better---it's more innocent-sounding, which makes it more heart-wrenching.

    It's still brilliant.

  • you should check out the santa monica version one man one guitar...brilliant

  • I have to agree with you. As Ziggy it was so tragic, a young man so aware of his own empheral state, the momentary life. Now you can hear- regret, the cold reality of death.

  • This genuinely astounding. Brilliant!

  • Comment removed

  • Okay, I got it: GQ Awards show

  • Besides that brilliant performance, that´s a great live sound (especially the drums!) What tour video is this from??

  • Fantastic but no way does it top Ziggy singing it in 1973 at the Hammersmith Odeon. It was perfect for Ziggy then, haunting, searching, sad!

  • what a cool performance!

beautiful bowie and a great bowie song.

    i love this. thanks.

  • Jacques Brel 's cover.Bowie est magistral. Better than in 1972.

  • What can I say?! Awesome as usual. No one greater than D.B.!!

  • Nice, nice stuff! Sweet groove! I LOVE mikes piano solo on Alladin Sane-on the David Live double disc from '75! SICK!

  • OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY I have this on bootleg and have been looking for a better copy for YEARS! YOU JUST MADE MY YEAR! To me, this IS THE BEST VERSION ever done! When he goes he GOES off on this mo fo! CHILLS..THANKS!

  • I'm astonished.

I think its up there with the Ziggy rendition.

  • This puts his '72 Ziggy tour version to shame IMHO.

  • Man that ending. That look on his face. Jesus.

  • absolutely magical.......fantastic post ta

  • RARE VIDEO & BEATIFUL SONG

((my bowie is different from yours))

    don't you wonder sometimes 'bout sound&vision ?

    by ASHESphoto . IT (( c o m e ))

  • Bowie was *heavily* influenced by Scott Walker's versions of Brel tunes which predated by bowie by several years. This isn't to say any thing negative just that Walker beat him to the punch on this thing. Of course most of you will ask "who is Scott Walker?". Do a google search kids.
