I had some mapo doufu 2 days ago. It was delicious tough it was not too spicy. I told my friends this story about tofu while we were eating mapo tofu. I was excited to see it because normal chinese restraurants don't cook it.
Oh my gosh! I LOVE these stories. My best friend decided to play this to her little nephew and he went right to sleep. So relaxing and calming. Thank you, Haiying, for enriching our lives! :)
To you know the story of Stinky Tofu? It's popular in Taiwan. My room mate grew up in Taiwan, and he said it's good, but it definitely doesn't look good.
Great story! :) I didn't know the story behind my favourite 川菜 dish. :) It's good to clarify the difference between 麻 má and 辣 là because there is an appreciable difference between the two main spicy flavours of China. There are others of course.. but ma and la are the ones you are most likely to encounter.
Real Sichuan "ma" will literally make your lips and mouth numb for possibly hours after eating.. so be very careful if you are asking for the real stuff.. haha :)

Love the story. I thought spicy tofu was from Guizhou.
