  • Its kinda sad that this short clip is closer to a Dracula Vs Frankenstein movie than the ACTUAL Dracula Vs Frankenstein movie

  • I like that Bela can't say Frankenstein. They were both very talented actors.

  • By the way, who won?

  • I love this! They were always thought of as rivals but they really werent

  • ITS THE MONSTER YA DAN GOOFED BELA

  • Karloff: Ready for the test, Dracula?

    Lugosi: I'm ready....Frankenstein...

Karloff: What? You mean Frankenstein's Monster? or THE Monster?

Lugosi: Aw fuck it, this mix-up will never go away...

  • okay.. wtf? not to be a bitch but karloff was the monster not frankenstein... well atleast in the 1931 version

  • @MRblueskin1 its one of the most wrong named things ever, also the walking with the arms stretched out that i considered one of the most iconic things of the Frankenstein monster is actually from i think it was Son of Frankenstein or Bride of Frankenstein so not from the 1931 version, not from the 1910 version and not even from the novel

  • I saw this clip on TV in 1964. I never forgot it. so i put "karloff lugosi chess" on the youtube search. voila! there it is. around forty-five years later. such is the magic of youtube. thankyou for posting this.

  • The actor narrating this is none other than Joseph Cotton! Nice...

  • @renkar820 interesting it does sound like Uncle Charlie, how do you know it's Cotten?

  • @tklogan111809 I know its Cotton b/c I'm a fan of his work. I tend to know his voice when I hear it.

  • @renkar820 then learn how to spell his name, it's Cotten :) I love him too.

  • @tklogan111809 Why, are we participating in a Spelling Bee or something? LOL

  • Epic

  • Funny I always thought Bela and Boris hated each other in real life and not just on film, but in this it looks like they get along nicely, or are they just that great of actors?

  • Ok that's just plain hilarious

  • Funny stuff. ;)

  • Black moves first????

  • @daffydoug He says: Your move. Not, you start. They were in the middle of the game! Bela had already moved his piece. Look at the board.

  • @SleazyMovieProd I don't see any white pieces off the first 2 ranks.

  • @gazzawhite You know what. you're right. Sorry, I must have seen wrong first time I saw this. My bad. Either way, its Dracula and Frankenstein's monster. They play by their own rules. Haha!

  • @SleazyMovieProd A lot of people thought the two men didn't like each other and it turns out that's not true. They just never socialized off-screen and only competed against each other when going after the same parts. Other than that, there was no hatred between them.

  • @SleazyMovieProd i dont see any pieces moved...

  • I love this video. It ever makes me smile. :)

And of course I love Béla and I am slowly finding out that Karloff was been quite nice too. :)

  • they werent rly close if u watch ed wood a guy says to bela can i have your autograph and says i love u in invisble ray when u were kroloff side kick bela says fuck you and fuck karloff someshit shit tht

  • THIS WAS FILMED IN 1934..LUGOSI AND KARLOFF HARDLY KNEW EACH OTHER ..OVER TIME THEY NEVER BECAME CLOSE

  • @801liveable That's right. This was the same year they filmed their first movie together, The Black Cat (1934).

  • @SleazyMovieProd yes, 1934, "THE BLACK CAT"..the best movie for the team of KARLOFF+LUGOSI..it is a great movie.."HE HAS AN ALL CONSUMING HORROR OF CATS".

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

  • In real life, were they friends?

  • @Cleon29Warrior no, they never became close..each man, different interests..kept their distance..

  • Fantastic!

  • You can tell they were going to crack up and laugh before they did! Looks like the footage was paused half way through!

  • who won????

    i bet bela did!!!!!

  • By the way, this clip was from a b/w documentary series "Hollywood and the Stars"

It was regularly narrated by Joseph Cotton.

This particular episode was titled "Monsters We Have Known and Loved".

It covered a lot of ground up to "Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies"

  • a movie should have been made in which bela and boris team up to solve a murder/mystery

  • who won??

  • @TheUnmaskedMagician vicent price

  • This is very touching and very sweet, seeing two of the greatest horror actors having fun, even if it is to see who will lead the parade. ^^ I love how they challenge each other and then laugh afterwards.

By the way, does anybody know who won that chess game and got to lead in the parade?

  • . . . this is adorable.

  • boris karloff y bela lugosi siempre van a ser lo màximo en el cine de terror

    long live draculosi y karlenstein

  • @qix77 Lugosi and Karloff never hated each other. Bela Jnr said when his dad spoke of Karloff, he never said anything bad about him, and I don't think a man as lovely as Boris Karloff was capable of hating another human being!

  • No, Bela, it's YOUR move! You have the white pieces. (Probably wasn't a titanic duel as chess games go.)

  • @dougkalb If he looks into your eyes and says its your move, its your fucking move.
