I have this original 45 rpm bought it in 1962. The only clean CD version you might find this on is one of the "Golden Age of American Rock N' Roll" from Ace Records or from 4shared.com/mp3/fGTcsPku/Thats_Life__Thats_Tough__Gabri.html
Special thanks to Uncle Fred Horton for playing this gem on as local Sat. night oldies show 1983-1985. Found a copy at a flea market some time later, and pretty much gave it away this past summer at a personal record liquidation garage sale.
Who says vintage teen-age rock is devoid of profound philosophy? There's a good lesson to be learned in the lyrics of this song for people of all ages -- but especially for teen-agers. To sum it up: Life isn't fair. That's tough. Laugh it off and deal with it. And sing a song about it!
I love this song. I think it's the theme song of my life.
I found it on Napster---before I was considered a "thief", lol. If I sang this song almost 50 years ago, I'd be tickled pink that folks liked it, remembered it, and were still looking for it. I would never have found it in a thrift store.
Possibly one of the most underrated songs of the early 60s, I was in junior high and something of a nerd, I'm 62, still a nerd and got goosebumps hearing it again..
Somebody said something to me tonight and this song popped into my head out of nowhere! I was 12 years old when it was on the radio and I remember I liked it a lot. Great to hear it again after about 48 years!
Ditto on the above. I had hoped to hear this song again. It's very under the radar of most oldies stations, surprised that it never gets airplay as it's great.
This was a group from Pittsburgh. They had a record out earlier (about 1960); a guitar & sax instrumental called "Chumba". "That's Life" registered on Billboard's Hot 100 but "Chumba" didn't.

It's time that people just started saying "That's life, that's tough" a little more often. Thanks for posting! Good record.

A hit for them on Swan label, but mostly played on American Bandstand by Dick Clark.
