All jam bands should work together to keep the music like this alive....personally I love Phish and Umphery's McGee and I love Perpetual Groove, Yonder Mountain String Band, and I love classic rock...These newer bands are what classic rock formed into, not gay ass bands like nickleback and linkin park....bands like Umphery's McGee and Phish...These bands are the true descendants of classic rock....which is why it saddens me that these bands aren't as popular as nickleback or linkin park...

for me there is no comparison to phish, but i have many emotional connections and memories associated with the shows i have been and the phrends i have made. for me only phish can get me where i truly wish to be. i love shows of all kinds and many other bands can allow me to access that energy too but PHISH does it in a way that is so profound and astonishing to myself that all i can do is surrender to the phlow. ;} (for that was the trick) its really a unique thing we have with this band and.

Both bands are awesome and have great live shows. Phish are seasoned veterans are the epitome of a perfect jam band. Umphreys is very unique with there mixture of progressive rock, Heavy metal, and eletronica and are very technical players. both should be valued for there experimental and improvisational live shows not used to discredit one another

I love new jambands too. I hate the "headier than thou" 'tude. Dead Created, Phish Perfected/Accelerated and other bands put their own spin on the formula.

S.C.I. did the bluegrass jams.

Widespread does the Southern rock jams

Umph does the pop rock jams

STS9 does the trance jams

All these bands are branches off the Dead's Tree with Phish Bark. Phish is #1 Deer Creek 09 was AMAZING with the lightning and TSIHTOS>Drowned>Jam was unreal. I haven't found a band that takes me as high as Phish can

All I have to say is Phish who? The amount of talent wrapped up here in this band (not trying to dis Phish at all, all wicked talented and "set the table" (baba booey to you all) for these guys) is far beyond what anyone else has to offer, IMHO. Still haven't seen them live, but live for the podcast every month. These guys are next level and mainstream will never be their bag...

Phish is the ultimate. You gotta go to a show man. There's no comparison. Phish is an LSD band and Umph is an XTC band. Phish explores crazy musical space and transcends all time when they are "on". Umph plays really well and fast. But they don't get "out there", loud and fast is a rollers dream. Believe me I've been in both positions and Phish is an exploratory world that can't be explained by these words that I type to you now. See them while you can. ASAP!

One thing persistently said about Umphreys, is that they play covers better than the original. Regardless of that truth, Umphrey's orignals blow mtv bullshit out the window. As for why they aren't on mtv yet? I'd like to think, for one, that they just don't wanna sell out (20 bucks a show = incredible). Two, Mtv just isnt their scene. Third, much of their lyrics are too political for mtv, and for mainstream funding. NEVER SELL OUT!

I was this bands bus driver for over a year and they are some of the finest people that I EVER worked for. The entire band and crew treated me with the upmost kindness and generosity. I picked them up the first time in Denver, CO for the tour with String Cheese Incident and was able to see them perform many times over the next year and half.They are truly gifted and wonderful friends. Any of their cd's are awesome, but I am a real big fan of "Anchor Drops" and "Safety in Numbers", ( the later of which I named ).

Anchor Drops is probably my fav, every track is HOT HOT HOT. If you like that "jam band sound", you will LOVE that one.
