  • Have you considered the light in this video???

  • @3711home -yes...horrible light, I know....but I had to get the video done quickly. There was so much snow on the ground nobody could get to the college where I teach, and I was doing an 'impromptu' online class...and fast.

Someday I will make another with appropriate light!

  • i loved the painting, the colors of your piece was so visual and vibrant. According to the video ,i must buy a thin paint brush, getting thin areas on painting i complete.

  • Loved the video, very informative. Glad to have you as a professor, while some people can only refer to you on youtube.

  • good stuff, Bereketeab

  • I watched!

  • The Colors used I the painting are very soft and neatly done. The shadowing and value makes the edges stand out. The color wheel makes matching the colors easier to match and are the right colors. The flowers look like a real painting.

  • Thank you for introducing me to your youtube channel. I love learning about the color wheel. It has helped me a lot with learning more about the colors. Im still practicing getting the colors just right.

  • The color wheel has been a huge help with understanding the colors and the harmonies between them. It is tricky to get the colors just right. Your picture with the flowers is really pretty.

it was cool. have a nice night!

  • I like how you can abuse the color wheel to find colors that will inevitably compliment one another. Thanks for the lesson, as I hope to impliment this in my future art projects. Zach Roselle from your Tuesday Color Theory Class (11:00 AM)

Finally got my YouTube account set up...

    good video!

  • Beautiful painting and excellent explanation!!!

  • I thought this was a trick to remember chord progressions in music. TRIADIC HARMONY? Anyway, couldn't you have just said, "here's the cheat wheel, have fun"?

  • I understand it completely. I also like the snow.

  • I love all the snow in the backround and the fact that you're using my favorite paint:3

  • oh thank you! I lvoe colour too..though I have never before thought much about the theories behind it...now that I am teaching color theory, I am delving into it a bit..though I always paint intuitvely with subject, form and technique. But, it always is good to have the knowledge behind everything :)

  • I love the video, yeah i think the lighting could of been better. I love that flower piece that was in the background. The assignment sounds not to hard so Im ready to start it.. The video was very helpful and I like how you was explaining the color wheel and how you can make up the different colors...

    -Trevon Opie

  • I got it~~ Thank You!!

  • I love color charts. Like, I like how they look. I don't use a color chart when I am working though. I am just not a fan of being confined; which is how I feel about color charts. You know?

  • Oh yes! Painting via intuition is the grandest thing! I have found that color charts are helpul for people involved in design ... I myself, have never used one- though perhaps I may in the future as a way to approach my work from a different perspective!

  • you are right Angela..the lighting was awful!

Do not add white or black

Create the colors you are going to use, then stick to those 3 only.

Acrylic will work the same way, only do not use water except to clean brush & to thin paint a bit (on your palatte) as it dries.

If you are working with secondary colors: you will need to mix to create these to create the exact color you want. The thing is to only create 3 colors on your palatte and only use those 3.

  • your video was very helpful, the lighting should have been better to see the colors bettter. i wish you did acrylic because in color theory thats what we are using, but i do have a question. we are only allowed to use those three colors? are we allowed to add blacks and whites or mix the two colors to make another color? for example using the primary colors, can i mix yellow and blue to make green?
