He's right about America not having interests in Israel. In the past when the Soviets were involved in the middle east America needed an ally and a base of operations in order to keep Russia from taking the whole region. Russia was welcomed there due to British and French involvement in Suez 1956. Today Russia has backed off. If I were the Russians however I would move a division into Northern Iraq in defence of the Kurds and help them pump out their massive oil reserves. America would do nada.
