  • Tom Baker and Lis Sladen. Best. Doctor (and companion). Ever

  • Ilove this Doctor! And i Miss Liz Sladen sooooo much, but stuff goes on, and Liz still lives as the incredible looking (even in her 50's!) in our hearts!

  • I love how one the girls called him Doctor! So cute! But I guess any Whovian would without realizing it.

  • Lis Sladen == Gorgeous

    Tom Baker == Brilliant

Edmonds == Total and utter bellend cock prick

  • I saw this the first time round! I remember the competition at the end.

  • The scarf! c:

  • I love how all of the callers are little girls. xD

  • wow she looks so beautiful, oh dear now i feel sad :(

  • sadly Elizabeth Sladen passed away recently saw her many times as she lived locally to me in Ealing, also had the pleasure as a schoolboy of meeting Tom Baker.

  • sadly Elizabeth Sladen passed away and she lived locally to me in Ealing, also had the pleasure as a schoolboy of meeting Tom Baker.

  • The Master obviously watched this

  • I just realised that I'd had a masive grin on my face the whole interview :D

  • RIP Elizabeth, still a looker in her final years

  • The thing about being the star of Doctor Who. Every time fans make it on the phone lines they all want to talk to just you.

  • those darn lucky people who got to talk to tom!

  • Tom Baker is the Best Dr WHO of all time

  • Dear me, these two love each other :-D

  • Tom Baker is on my very long list of celebrities I want to have as my uncle (that list also includes Rowan Atkinson and Stephen Fry).

  • love this interveiw..even tho i wasnt even born wen it aired

  • My favorite doctor and favorite companion in one interview. Thanks for posting this! RIP Elizabeth, gone too soon.

  • Elisabeth Sladen = gorgeousness

  • I'd say the scarf is 12-13 feet long, judging from his height

  • @Whacko23

He started with two different lengths, one scarf that was 13 feet, and one well over 20 feet. The extra long one was for scenes where he's running, so it can trail behind him dramatically.

They did later add more, like the one that's largely dark and red.

  • Ah...those eye's!!!!

  • Ah..the eye's!!!

  • Also, doesn't everyone love the bit where he comes up with the scarf competition? Hes so naturally brilliant!

  • Its interesting how all the callers were girls. I found the first caller really funny: 'How are you getting on?' LOL. I wonder if shes ever seen this on youtube? Laura Weiss where are you?

  • Tom just seemed so sincere and genuinely grateful to play the role - a great ambassador for the show to kids really. Its something I notice Matt Smith lacks...perhaps he really sees it as a spring board to other things far quicker...

  • Lis and Tom, God bless em. I miss the old days. RIP Elisabeth I'll really miss you.

  • Along with every thing else, you've got to dig Toms' groovie sideburns.

  • He was such a thoughtful man in this interview, I really loved how he played the doctor for the children callers and was so patient with them.

  • preferred Mary Tamm she was absolutely friggin gorgeous...how did she not become a bigger star

  • Lis Sladen is so beautiful here.

  • Noel Edmonds=knob

  • Miss u elisbeth sladen :(

  • Dear TheGrumpstein, unfourtunately I have been exiled on this world by the Timelords, and my Tardis isn't working, otehrwise I'd say you may still be in time, but if it's a DR. Who scarf your after, either a 14 foot multi coloured version, or the season 18 burgundy one, they're available on Amazon. Oh and forbiden planet now sell a fourth Dr costume with scarfe, a Leela costume, and a fith DR. costume

  • is it too late to send the postcard?

  • @TheGrumpstein Hello,if it's the scarf your after, they sell a 14 foot multicoloured DR. Who scarf, and the season 18 burgundy version on Amazon. Forbiden Planet now sell a 4th DR. costume, with scarf and hat, a 5th DR. costume, a Leela costume, and wait for it, both the 3rd and 4th DR's versions of the sonic screwdriver, happy hunting,

  • When I clicked this I didn't realise it had Lis in in and I got mahself saaaaaaad :'[

  • R.I.P Elisabeth Sladen.

  • R.I.P Elisabeth Sladen

  • Noel Edmunds trousers FTW!!

  • Lis is so beautiful, sweet and lovely! She will be greatly missed! I was devastated when I heard the news. She is and will always be my all time favourite Doctor Who companion! Tom baker is amazing too!

  • God she is so devastatingly pretty, here and always.

Tom was the best doctor as well.

  • This is my favourite interview. Although, I kinda want to hear more about Lis' wardrobe.

  • RIP Elisabeth Sladen

  • A cool kids' show. I miss Tom Baker and being a kid watching this show. He truly was the epitome of Doctors.

  • His jelly baby addiction is catching up with him.

  • Imagine Billie piper doing a spin off series 30 years from now like Elizabeth sladen is doing with Sarah jane adventures? Not likely we think.

  • @rebusubervideo As it happens Russell had already lined up a new spin off for her after the second series of Doc Who but since they started up another Sarah Jane spin off and Torchwood they decided in the end Rose having one as well would be "a spin off too far"

  • Tom is so charismatic. Elisabeth is so pretty.

  • @LGLG69 She aged pretty well too!

  • Could you tell me what you got this from? Is it on one of the Doctor Who DVDs?

  • what does he mean remove the doctor mantle and talk to tom baker?

he is talking to tom baker

    tom baker is the doctor

  • His voice is just fantastic.

  • @emh26 I know, his voice is just perfect. I want him to narrate my life.

  • OMG when Tom is talking with this 13 yo kid, and she tells him the show does not frighten her... Shes acting like Doctor...

  • Tom Baker is far the best a natural... the old Dr Who series are the best by far

  • so glad he said Madame Nostradamus! heh.

  • @wonkeaux Yeah he clouldnt get that one wrong, apparantly the real reason why the scarf was as long as it was because the BBC gave a woman a huge amount of wool and asked her to knit a scarf and she thought they wanted her to use the entire wool supply they gave her. Result: the twenty foot scarf lol

  • @bluejeckett haha I hadn't heard that! I knitted one, had my grandma teach me how, and when I was ready to stop, had her teach me how to end it! 18 feet long, 18 inches wide, burgundy and purple version. very warm!

  • @wonkeaux lol ha ha yeah 18 feet is quite a length, I dunno how long the original scarf on the show was, Tom had the burgundy scarf later on but I wasnt as big on that outfit. He's certainly the only doc to have been on the show for so long he had two different outfits. I never saw the Tom Baker years I only came in on the dying days of Sylvestor McCoy.

  • @bluejeckett I had the early scarf too, custom made for me, gave it away to a friend eventually. I met Tom twice, very very nice chap, also met Jon Pertwee, my first Doctor, I watched him when I was in 6th or 7th grade, then saw a Tom episode and thought, who the hell is this guy? had no idea yet about regeneration, this was the late 70's in the states. those are my 2 favourite Doctors. overall I guess Tom was the best though. (sorry Jon old bean still love you! RIP)

  • @wonkeaux Ah k, yeah Im Australian so my introduction to Who was as I say late 80s after school, which is when most people say the rott was setting in and the stories were crap

  • he seems as mad as his character, no wonder he was so good XD

  • @jhibbitt1 From what interviews I've seen of him, he's probably even madder than his character.

  • He's got a lovely voice, I must say.

  • Elisabeth Sladen looks amazing!!

  • Oh my god, he's so tall! And he reminds me of Matt Smith, or rather Matt Smith reminds me of him. They're both gangly and weird, and they have really strange facial features, but you still find them attractive for some reason.

  • Noel Edmunds has not changed over the 140 years he's been on TV...he still makes me cringe.

  • TOM BAKER

    JUST IS THE DOCTOR

    HE CAN'T HELP IT.

  • i see the episode which was going to be aired that evening was the hand of fear and this was actually the very first ever swap shop show

  • TOM IS God.

  • He was quite rude with the kids...

  • @BlackenedForLife Really? I thought he was very sweet.

  • ...poor sarah ^_^

  • Wots with this daft booger and his ridiculous telephone set up?!

  • Tom`s brilliant

  • After listening to Tom Baker's voice for 10 minutes, I think I may be pregnant.

  • @novamist lol

  • Respond to this video... MY favourite doctor, nice to See Elizabeth Sladen

  • @novamist I concur.

  • The interviewer/host is an asshole

  • people need to forget david tennant and realise that tom baker is the doctor

  • om baker is a reptillian shape shifter pause and watch frame by frame any of his interviews pay attention to his eyes, lips, teeth all showing prominent holographic breakdown aka shapeshifting ..

  • @pnd51010

Is Om Baker the Buddhist meditation specialist?

  • tom baker the most superb Dr who ever!

  • Tom was perfect for his role,he seemed not all there as if hes too busy thinking about other things. An eccentric odd character (in a good way),I could believe he was from another planet.

  • athe one and only DR. And this girl has an ass that wont quit.

  • for a sec there he was like "wheres the camera?"

  • On the "Robot" commentary Tom says he "adores" Elizabeth. On the "Planet of Evil" commentary Tom affectionately teases Lis, by commenting on a scene where he is looking at her "absolutely adoringly" and she never notices.

Notice here, how Tom is being a "big brother" to Lis, steering attention to her, and thoughtfully putting the phone where she could reach it more easily. Little actions that show Tom's genuine affection for Lis.

  • @63DW89A after viewing enough interviews with tom, i believe he is a genuine good human being.

  • you know Toms there only because its in his contract.

  • "how old are you?"

    "11"

"how old are you" (second time this question is asked)

well sometimes im 700 other times im about 42 and sometimes 11 its all verry confusing

  • Elisabeth Sladen is now in the Sarah Jane Adventures, a teatime spin-off from Dr Who, shown on CBBC.

  • Never could figure out the precise reason why Elisabeth Sladen is so fascinating and watchable! She comes off as a genuine person, putting up no front or facade at all. She seems one of those special girls who can get up all sleepy-eyed and still be cute-as-a-button, no makeup needed. She has a sweet innocence mixed with intriguing subtle undertones of a not-so-innocent hot sexiness to her.

She definitely made DW a most fascinating show during her era as companion!

  • @coltperc She reminded me of an old Sindy doll from the 1970s/80s.

  • "It's an incredible number of special effects..." Oh, '70s BBC. Don't get me wrong, I love the paper mache monsters, but it is pretty hilarious.

  • He's too freakin' funny!

  • this guy is a fucking legend!

  • wow tom has a lovely smile

  • i laughed a lot watching this

    my glasses fogged up... =I

  • He was so sweet with the first and third caller! :D

  • I'd treasure a Dr Who scarf from Tom Baker! :D

  • "Nevermind about that. Anyway. I'll send you a scarf. Why don't you try and guess? It's interesting."

  • I feel about 10 years old........ Wonderful clip.

  • Lovely. Makes you wonder why we had to become americanised, Britain nowadays seems very ignorant. A generation of idiots. No jeremy Kyle then :-)

Thanks for the upload, wonderful stuff!

  • @bentsimon ...Ouch.

  • swap shop was great but compared to today's shows it was very unprofessional! listen to all the voices in the background!

  • swap shop was great but compared to today's shows it was very unprofessional! listen to all the voices in the background!

  • his voice is drop-dead beautiful....it melts into your soul like hot chocolate and you can't escape! And those eyes don't help the situation. X(

    My fav. too incidently. :D

    I think I commented before...a long time ago....>.>

  • Tom Baker and Christopher Eccleston are definitely the best actors overall to ever play the role, but all of the men in the role had very strong acting skills. Sylvester McCoy was probably the "weakest" but that's not to say he was a bad actor; he just had very stiff competition. It really depended on the quality of the writing & direction as to how good the characterization was as a whole, and that could vary from story to story.

  • @icemachine79 i agree with tom baker but eccleston???? not eccleston. i like matt smith, david tennant and tom baker.

  • Thee Doctor!!

  • Tom Baker has the most amazing voice!

  • "There's a bit of cricket."

I think Tom Baker might have his own TARDIS...

  • I don't envy any of the subsequent actors trying to live up to Tom Baker! He was THE Doctor.

  • They said the same thing about Tom Baker when he took the role. Remember he is the forth doctor.

  • @Jon358902 Truer words were never spoken!

  • Tom Baker seems like such a nice person. I completely agree w/ BigChappy... things were better back in the old days.

  • Goes to show how patronizing modern kids tv is. Noel is a dick but at least it's not citv

  • Tom Baker: extremely funny. Elizabeth Sladen: extremely pretty. Noel Edmonds: extremely bad. He doesn't even listen to what's being said to him before he asks his next question.

  • I love that they say the special effects are amazing, but I did love this show and yes I agree with JacobRudduck

  • Fun interview--thanks for posting.

    Dr. Who fan here...

  • I've never SEEN Liz Sladen looking this naughty before. Wherefore that foxy smile and rosy cheeks? Surely she can't like small chaps with big beards? Is this why I loved her as a 3 yr old??

Edmonds strongly reasserting his right to the title of most fatuous interviewer of ALL TIME. The greatest. We salute you!

  • this takes me back...great to see this......it made me wonder when/if flares will ever come back?? lol. liz sladen looks gorgeous....thanks for posting.

  • I bet Liz would never of dreamt about having her own show in its 3rd series in the year 2009 back when she did this interview ...... its just brilliant.

    Nice hair noel!

  • Liz Sladen has the sexiest smile! what a babe!

  • I met him when I was 13! He signed his autograph.

  • I met him last November, it was absolutly awesome.

I both got an autograph and a photo.. and Louise Jameson who played Leela was also there, so absolutly epic exsperience.

  • @MoonPhantom Where was this, a Dr W convention? I can't imagine the Dr and Leela just hanging out :-)

  • *Dabble778

It wasn't a convention, just genuinely autpgraph signing.

It took place at Charing Cross's Stampcentre in London, where they apparently have Doctor who signings quite often with all the old Actors.

Standing in the line I got all sorts of histories from the others who was there almost every single autograph signing, and thereby had meet almost everyone important in doctor who... more than once even oO

And yeah, Doc and Leela was just hanging out. Talula from "The next doctor" to

  • Tom's so nice and sweet in this vid! I like his way of speakig with children..Softie!!

  • I absolutely love his crazy stare :D

  • Tom Baker was the best doctor ever and his scarf was nine foot.

  • that host has a mullet a bear could hibenate in

  • I used to watch Swap Shop with Edmonds as a kid. I used to like him, then I grew up and realised Edmonds is a complete and utter arsehole, as this footage clearly shows.

  • Edmunds isn't as bad as Chegwin. I couldn't stand Chigwin then.

  • Message to the Queen. Give Tom Baker his Knighthood for gods sake. Sir Tom Baker.

  • @RUBBERMOOG no no lord doctor

  • In 18 Serials, Sarah Jane tripped and fell only once, in "The Android Invasion".

    Actual viewing figures:

T.Baker/Sladen over 13 serials together averaged 10.12 Million viewers per episode, Seasons 12-14.

T.Baker after Sladen left, averaged 8.6 Million viewers per episode with Jameson/Tamm/Ward/Waterhouse, etc as companions, Seasons 14-18.

T.Baker started Season 15 without Sladen and saw a major ratings drop for DW.

Amazing that a "terrible" actress was capable of such audience effect.

  • Liz was soooooo beautiful back then, and still is. She had no idea in the 1970s, that in the 2000s she would reprise her role as Sarah Jane Smith and be nominated for BAFTAs. Amazing

  • yes she is a hottie. i miss the 70's girlies. all natural looks, they acted feminine, and petite-they didn't have broad shoulder and DD boobs from all the steroids in food these days.

  • they cut off the last caller LOL. "Do you get very freightened?" Do i get very freightened? !(LAUGHS) LINE CUT

    LOL

  • Great interview!!! Thanks for uploading it!!! Loved it when he said that sometimes he feels like 700, sometimes 42 (was that how old he was at the time of the interview?) or sometimes 11!!! Don't we all? He was soooo brilliant as the Doctor!!! He was, is, will always be my favorite!!! I love you, Tom Baker!!! And Sarah Jane was my fave companion!!! She was cool!!!

  • he´s my favorite too!!

but for companions I lost my heart to LEELA!!!

    she was gourgeossssssss

  • Hahaha.

Tom Baker was a Great Doctor Who.

Although there were times when He did act badly.

Tom Baker was Dwarfed by the final remark, from Noel Edmunds:

"It's like trying to get Secrets out of; The Foreign Office... Or a Stone.".

That might be the first funny thing, that I've seen Noel Edmunds say. :P.

  • I haven't yet seen many Tom Baker episodes, and until now he is not my most favourite Doctor, but he is certainly very charming in this interview. And he has a great voice. Thanks for posting!

  • Is this Doctor Who on Playschool set!

  • Tom baker looks gorgeous in this clip. He was really cute when he was young. What a voice! And great hair. Tom Baker was and always will be the Doctor!

  • Tom Baker - The very definition of professionalism.

  • I think I just swooned over Tom Baker. Yes... Yes, I did.

  • dont feel bad i did too!!!

  • It's really cute. Tom Baker doesn't know if children want to speak with him or with the doctor. He is very nice. Elizabeth is lovely too. Where can we find the entire interview please?

  • The interview is on the Hand of Fear DVD, although it's not the complete interview. Check out the Restoration Team website.

  • Ok. Thank you very much. I just ordered the DVD.

  • I was just getting over my ridiculously mad crush on Sarah Jane!!! gah!! my wife's gonna kill me!!

  • I luv Eilsabeth Sladen looks lovely and stunning still and she looks also gorgeous too,

  • Great clip! Lovely peeps!

  • "you've got an amazing pair of eyeballs" :D

  • They both seem absolutely charming.

  • don't they just? Delightful people.

  • I luv Eilsabeth Sladen my Hero and i really badly want to meet her Lis looks Stunning and Gorges and beautful

  • Haha i must say I really like the character of the fourth doctor. And Tom Baker is really good at interacting with little children fans.
