In this case the theory is that we are all a cell on a larger being, and that would mean that puppylawsuit needs to proove that is the case. I think a problem here is that when people make arguments such as these, they have already decided on the answer, and more than really asking are just looking for validation. There may be no proof that ants suffer, but there is no real evidence that they do not. Don't forget humans only look with human eyes - that works both ways! Just because we can't see a way ants could suffer in human terms, does not mean ants do not feel pain or anxiety as they are dying.
But we have already picked apart and examined brains of humans, and many other animals. For the most part we know how nervous systems work, how cognition works, there is no question about ants feeling pain or anxiety.

I have a priority in my consideration for critters...if it isn't harming me I don't go out of my way to harm them. Mosquitos, invading armies of ants in my kitchen, biting flies...it's open season. Spiders can stay unless they get cheeky. Cool bugs get caught and escorted out of the house.

My perspective is based on the principle that survival is the reference point of judgement...and the competition for it among species... i.e.- Bees make honey, butterflies eat leaves, none go after us nor put us at any defecit. Flies spread bacteria and disease on our foods, and mosquitos specifically target us to drink our blood, spread viruses into our skin, after which "biting" us, leaves its saliva in our skin, causing the bump and itchy irritation we dread.

... interesting. For a while now, part of my justification of my opposition to animal rights was that we see stuff about the "rights" of dogs and cats and not about smaller creatures like ants, (saw inconsistency in that) but for the first time in a while (last time was when I read the C&H strip about ants squishing cities) I get to see animal rights applied to ants. At the moment I still disagree with animal rights (although my mind is constantly changing) but it's nice to see some consistency.

They do this because it is easier to examine animal behavior/body language or characteristics up close and personal. I think as long as you aren't torturing or intentionally harming the animal in any way, then it is fine. However, animals born in captivity are deprived from learning the old fashion way of how their environment functions and, once (if ever) released back into the suitable environment, they may not be able to survive simply because they lack the individual knowledge.

In this case the theory is that we are all a cell on a larger being, and that would mean that puppylawsuit needs to proove that is the case. I think a problem here is that when people make arguments such as these, they have already decided on the answer, and more than really asking are just looking for validation. There may be no proof that ants suffer, but there is no real evidence that they do not. Don't forget humans only look with human eyes - that works both ways! Just because we can't see a way ants could suffer in human terms, does not mean ants do not feel pain or anxiety as they are dying.

The only bugs I don't kill are the ones that are helpful (pollinaters, earthworms) and ones that kill other bugs (spiders, wasps, etc). Sometimes I avoid stepping on insects though, if I don't want to get their carcases on my footwear.

Surbrus, although it is hard for you to accept, all life on earth is symbiotic. That means all life is interconnected in a 'web'. All things serve their purpose, no matter how insignificant they might seem. And before you say it, their purpose is not to be crushed by you... Why just post here to be destructive?
