  • That not you! :)

  • can you explain to me how you played 2 patterns at the same time? i cant seem to be able to do this

  • niiiicely done.

  • Hey man, sorry I keep harassing this video with questions, but there aren't many resources for this kind of thing. Just a quick question this time, is it possible to apply effects to multiple but not ALL pads? I wanna throw a delay on just a few of my pads without having to resample.

  • @TheGodslug Read the manual

  • I still don't understand how you slow it down with the pitch. Whenever I try to either change the tempo, or the pitch, it fucks with the sample intensely! Please get back to me, I just dusted off the SP and am getting nowhere due to the same issue I had before :P

  • @TheGodslug like, i noticed all your original samples are at 100 tempo. whenever i try to set the tempo before recording, it just cuts the sample off early, or if i try to change the tempo afterwards it makes it sound all messed up :(

  • numark for the vinyl slices NICE!!!!

  • what do you mean?

  • Pete rock - intrigue

    he sampled the drums.

  • beat 2 is heat, and so is the t-shirt. where'd u get it?

  • What's the best sample as far as price/quality goes !?!?

  • FINALLY!! Someone using the SP-303 right, this is what I've been looking for. I've got one coming in the mail.

  • Thats a dope ass shirt.

    Cool sample homie.

    Keep the music commin.

    Peace.

  • Are you sure you are not the man on the pic? ^^

  • Hey Nick, what record are you sampling from?

  • Comment removed

  • i have a sp303 for sale pads/screen/allbuttons work!!

except the volume knob/headphones dont work too well.

I use monitor speakers or amp connect to my sp thru the outputs on sp.

& you can hear everything.. plus to fix the headphones jack is no more then 30$

    send me a message

  • Killa!! Roc on nic da 1nda! Peace from italy!!

  • yo man, sorry i keep asking you so many questions, but im havin some trouble with getting proper tempo...i have a sample that's 77 tempo, but i thought ahead and realized it might acutally be like 77.4 or something, which is why when i turn CTRL 2 up, it still reads as 154. i tested it out by playing a drum loop in FL at 77 tempo and sure enough, they drop out of sync after a bit....how can i work around this / check the exact tempo, cause when i make patterns it will be a problem :S

  • Beats hella dope! .. I gotta ask what record you got the break at 1:33 from ? you chopped it real nice!

  • I need your help badly! Im tryin to make a bassline, (never have on sp yet), by putting in a single bassnote and changing the pitch. Yet, when i try to change the pitch (not just for bass but any sound), they always get all weird and distorted, and i can only really use a range of pitch between like 10 and 2 o'clock on the 1st knob...i make sure that ctrl 3 knob is turned up all the way, ctrl 2 down all the way, then use ctrl 1 to actually change pitch...

  • @fightnukka ahhh you make me miss the sp-1200..there is no multipitch [nor 16 levels] on the sp-303 so pitchin the same note not as effective...i suggest having 4 good notes and/or poormans bassline [filter/canceler]

  • much love for recognizing dilla. no one does that anymore :(

  • @ChumpJoe lol, that's cause this video is from '07

  • I'm just getting into Hip-Hop and all, and i'm confused, is doing things like this with records illegal ?

  • @mythoughtsshine

Putting out a record with sampled material is perfectly legal if the record company gets all of them cleared first, which basically means they find the people the sample belongs to and make sure its cool with them and give them their cut.

You'll get fucked if the owner recognizes the sample and you didnt clear it. Dre got sued for sampling the THX sound and not clearing it.

  • @TW909 Yeah, But If Your An Indie Artist, With Your Own Label, Clearing Samples Isnt the Easiest Thing To Do. Which Is Why Many Underground Artists Say "Fuck Clearing Em". It Aint No Piece Of Pie.

  • Mad skillz!! Respect!!!

Is the SP 303 a better sampler than the SP 505?

because I can get them for about the same price!

    Need some advice please!

    grtz from Holland

  • hey nick when is o.l.e droping dope vids by the way as usual bro, feel free to check my vids out sometime feel free to comment rate and subscribe.

  • if u have a sp 303 u dont want & want to trade for a iPOdToUCH 8gb hacked(jailbroken) just send me a message well figure sumthing out

  • okay, i have two questions and would really appreciate an answer

    1. i have 2 turntables and a mixer, could the sp 303 still sample a record i play on a turntable?

2.can it sample by recording from what is played directly from the turntable?

again i would really appreciate an answer since im considering getting one.

  • @djbash914 if they have the "red and white" outlets on em, then yes you can sample directly from the turntable, dont even need to go through a mixer if u dont want.

  • YO I DONT GET IT

people on the sp forum religiously say that at 1minute in this video

the sample isnt realy slowed down with the pitch it just changed its tone

    its clearly length changed

they made me trip for a moment

i just bought a sp 303 from ebay today and i tought i couldnt slow shit up with the pitch lol

  • what record were you sampling from?

  • the second beat is stupid!

  • Woah... real nice..

  • does the 303 use compact flash cards?

  • @cap0n3 one of the few 303 drawbacks...smartmedia cards ONLY [which are no longer made-wack]

  • @ld101 nick, think about the 404sx?

  • u shud def make these available on itunes id definately buy these

  • goes without sayin this video is sick, nice work man

  • i heard the average price on the sp-303 is $100

  • @thisisdrink100 More like $200-250

I grabbed one from Craigslist today for $175 though :P

  • u my good sir are a mothafuckin genius i love the second beat u gotta get that shit out there...

  • this is a nice beat, man.

  • so bad maaaaan

  • Dope beat bro! Check me out peace!

  • do you need a mixer to sample with that turntable? please some one answer

  • naaaaah...has RCA outs!

  • @ld101 thank you

  • Could I use headphones for the SP? Or do I need to buy studio monitors?

  • fuck no

  • sick video man

  • what is the internal Ram on this box??

  • Love that lil 303 box.

    Less in MORE!!

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • what records did dilla produce on the sp 303? big up man...love your t-shirt by the way hahaha

  • sweet ! now this is fresh - bad ass skills- a very cool demo of the sp-303.

  • oh btw, can you make a video on how to actually finalize a beat? i have my patterns and a drum loop, but i dunno how to actually (i unno how it works on the sp 303) record it? sequence it? EXPORT IT?

  • i just took a break from making my first beat ever on a sampler (303), and just wanted to say this is fucking dooope, hopefully i get familiar enough with it to make shit just as quickly as you...what do you usually sample for your drums? is there something you can download, im having trouble finding good drum loops that i can get JUST a hat from

  • drums are de main ingredient...just gotta dig[look around]! & there's always break series around to get you started + i export straight to the pc [see: radioshack]

  • daym whats that record?!

  • good shit i just started makin beats...still learnin the SP 303...

  • its the new premier!!

  • that first beat is so sick

  • yo , can you hook up a midi controller (numark ns7) to the sp 303 ? Im trying to use the echo out effect but it's not working right. A) how do you connect and b) how would you use the sp 303 to create an echo effect to cut a song out and then bring another track in? Thanks for your replies :)

  • damn that looks dope! but i just bought turntables i cant afford to everything...

  • good beat sampled the beat 1..

    is my favorite

  • That was rad. I really like the sample. I'm saving up to get a SP-303. I'm currently using Beatmaker for the iPod Touch which works well enough, but it doesn't feel the same as the real thing.

  • HI nick nice video!

how did u make the "bounce" the drums on pad 8?

    thanks

    respect rom brazil

  • how do you get the beats?

  • This is super dope

  • that 2nd beat smooth

  • hey, i got a sp 555 and im seeing in your video that the 303 when you hit a sample then hit another it automatically switches. but on my 555 the sample finishes, so if you hit too many too quickly they all mush together instead of stopping when the next one is hit. am i doing something wrong with the gate and loop buttons.

  • what do you use to record for the turntable?

  • ayo How much the 303 run you? Just wondering.

  • ya man !! I roc the 404 but my man got the 202 .. my bro got the old 808 .. I'm goin to my girl for a 101 :D yo beat 1nda .. come check my beats out!! Peace :D

  • whats the record my dude i wanna flip it the 303 is beasty it clear to see you the gift my dude but imma chop it up on my akai S20 if u let me get it!! peace

  • doesn't work like that, sick dig though original and flip is phenomenal

  • Hi Nick the 1da!

    I have a question...

at 1:21 how did you bounce the live performance of the drums to Pad 8 as a loop?

  • once you save ur live pattern..re sample and then switch pads via holding down the rec and cancel buttons..bounce to any #!

  • THANK YOU NICK Tha 1DA!

  • @ld101 Hey man, sorry, I'm not following can you clarify? So you're resampling your performance onto a pad yeah? You're not entering 'pattern mode' at all, right?

  • @iromeku for this paticular video-exactly

  • @ld101 Class

  • yo it kinda sound like a Premo beat yo, shit madd nice

  • HAWLA!

  • he is inspired!

    :P

  • i blame bmore *shurgs*

  • lol

  • diabase uses one of these joints, huh? like what you're doing with the joint. gotta get one of these .

  • diabase's that dude

  • ,,,,1 WANT ONE OF THESE SHITS! NOW!

  • NICE!!!

  • reminds me of sum pete rock

  • I was JUST about to say that

  • nick, Your voice sounds like Lil Sci's voice..

  • Does your Lady throw down on the samplers too? If so post her joint.

  • Yo question wher do yo find your smart media cards? and how much would you charge for some drum samples on a smart media card? I really feel them joints on the sp1200 been at least 10 years or more since I jammed with the sp1200.

  • tight. i love my 303, i might upgrade to the 505 so i can sample whole movies but other than that.... i dig the rawness of the 303 - got a bunch of "californication" samples on it right now, plus muppet movie loops and some shit from "american pimp" - i like fuckin with the overdrive/lpf to really warp shit (guitars, bass, loud shit)

  • how do you add drums?

  • The Drums On 2nd Beat have always been my favorite..

  • yo Nic what kind of memory that thing has ?

  • internal - 30 seconds high qual - minute medium qual - 2 mins low qual ... i got a smartmedia 32mb card, it can do 16min mono, 8 min stereo (high qual) (2 banks times 8 pads). its enough to fuck wit, time doubles the lower the quality

  • dope shit, and dope shirt!

  • hot shit homie !!!

  • man i clearly seee one better way of putting tehe last sample!

would u send me the sample to do my remix??

would put u in te credits!!!

    thankss!!

    peace!!

  • wow this vid makes me want to mess with my 404 again! ;)

  • Nice work yo. Lovin' dem drums yo.

  • maryland/DC.....low budget family!!!

  • I bought that same machine and it's been sitting forever. Time to put it to use.

  • uh...where you get the drums from?

  • thats wassup

  • that shit is dope

  • should check out jel from anticon.

  • nice track man. btw where did you get that shirt from?

  • thx homie--& ebay!

  • good shit

  • lol holla at cho kid like bad parents funny my nigga

but back on topic good shit

  • how do the hell do u chop with this thing and how do u change the tempo and mute tracks? can u possibly make a tutorial on this machine??

  • it's def not the record i show in the video!

    -that's the decoy!

  • i wanna know the name of the song too!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • He got that samp from an Old Pete Rock joint! I did the same!

  • you got talent bro, nice one

  • those drums are ill bro, especially the snare.

  • how did u slow down the sample without fucking up the sound

  • a video of what the SP-303 can REALLY do...

  • wered you get that kit from?

  • you are a master!

  • Great job man!

I have a question for you..

How do you do to make a loop of a drumming on one pad? You just use the resample button then play a beat in live instead of making a pattern or you can edit a pattern on one pad? 'cause when I do a pattern, if I have too many drums and samples some loops and samples stop suddenly...I fucking don't understand, this make me crazy! help me pleaseeeee! eheheh anyway thanks in advance and keep on doing good stuff with simple materials, I love it. Peace!

  • yeah man sorry for the delay---you can't place a pattern on the same number for a sound you're using...for example is kick is on 1 and snare on 2--you can't save a pattern/record to either one or it'll clip off

  • Thanks for this video, I am going to go get my SP-303 out of storage!!

  • ill shit my dude!

  • dope as fuck, I was already inspired to buy one of these but after seeing this video (and hearing dilla and madlib used one) I'm almost pushed over the edge.

  • Where you get that shirt from, I see Questlove wears some similar to those, he has a ton of them. Do you make them your self ?

  • definitely a pete kit---now if there was only black milk drums around...hmmm

  • keep up the good work, nick.. ur SP 1200 joints are the shit.. these 303 beats are dope as well... you made that shit look so appealing im going to get one of them.. need that video on how to chop..you've got some sick drum kits for this 303.

  • sick video man, really helpfull wen choosing what stuff to buy.

If u dont mind me asking, what songs did u use to sample? or are they being kept a secret lol

  • damn man that was fresh.

  • for what its worth i like the first beat a hell of a lot more... i just saw a lot of people saying they liked the second one

also i think it sounds ill when you cancel out the sound like that, allows for a simple change up so its not just looped

    peace

  • yo ill shit, i see u using the pt-01. yo i got a question for u, do u ever get a weird white noise when u plug in yours in. i use a mpc 2500 and whenever i have it on input thru i get the noise, then it get worse when i put the eq and compressor on. if u can help me with this it would help alot thanks

  • yeah that happens to me occasionally

sometime i'll clear it up in cool edit/audition--but otherwise you might need a better cord (stereo/gold as opposed to mono)

  • thanks man, i got another question.i want to know how to take the drums out of a loop. i listen to alot of instruments and ill hear the sample and there like a "ghost" of the drums under it, but the sample it loud and clear(piano, horns, etc) i really dont know how to do this and i want to know what the technique on how to do it right thanks

  • damn, it sound like you ate the camera at the end. lol. nice video though. thanks

  • hey man, i like your shirt, where'd you cop it?

  • ebay...searched diggin!!! that's what we do!

  • how come the sp303 can just chop the sample automate like that but not the sp555? somebody please answer that for me!!!

  • def not automate-lol

i'll def make a vid in the future of how i do chops---cause i get alot of questions on how to snippy-snip the samples anyway in detail. holler.

  • dang Nick...you a genius Doggie

  • Where you gettin your drums from?

  • yo homie, you a sick man on that SP303

    one..

  • resample to the intended pad...saves space for more samples/sounds and you'll have your original drum pattern

not much room for switch-ups tho if you heavy on that

  • that would require you to be very precise on the timing tho right?, given that you can't quantize without pattern mode

  • ive had my 303 for a while and i havent been able to get my sequencer to work. i read the manulas and all that.

    any advice?

  • one of the biggest probs is the space you have avail...i personally like sequencing in banks C and D cause it'll access my smartmedia card...if that's not the issue may be a prob internally! 303 is mid life crisis now, lol

  • 303 holla..lol...yo tho's tracks where hot mane..specially that 2nd beat..the 2nd 1 sound like a Premire track..otha than that the shit was hot...919 holla...lol

  • I sold my sp202 to pay rent but good music comes from struggling and coping with obstacles so its all good. I'll buy it again from Craiglsist when I get the money. Roland's filters are the shyt for that lo fi sound.I also like the 606 and the 404. I use em in conjunction with Fl Studio 7, Sound Forge 6 and Acid Pro 4.

  • yoooo how did u slow down the sample with the pitch?! wen i fuck with bpm on samples it makes it sound really bad. thanks man

  • hey, i really need some help. i just got a sp 303 off ebay, and tried to sequence with it and i cant get it to playback after the measure is up, or save the pattern for that matter. am i not pressing a certain button or somthing? (granted i at least know to press record to start and stop) or did i just get screwed.. all the other functions work fine, seems odd that only the sequencing would be messed up.. any info would help alot.

  • Great stuff man, I love it. I'm thinking about getting the sp 404. what's the keyboard hooked up to?

  • keyboard hooked up to the PC for reason

    404 is ill!

  • the second beat is off the frickin hook! u rock nick!!!!

  • good vid. I got the sp-202 and I really dig the crustiness of the lo-fi sampling. Does the sp-303 have good mojo on the lo-fi sampling? I'm thinking of upgrading to it.

  • yeah all the sps got the ill lo-fi

202 can do just as much as the 303...that 404 nice too!

  • hey nick i like your video man your dope on the sp! please i'm lookin for dope one shot drum samples but i just find crappy drums off internet and ebay banging beats, everybody tell that i should sample break but i'm lookin for one shot sample please i need help!!!

  • nah i hooked up regular RCA cables(red and white) from the portable turntable directly in the sp!

the 404 has a built in mic tho!

    --

    Sent from my Helio Ocean

  • yo dawg cant get the input levels rite sounds really low

  • how did you queue that sample into the sp 303? (i'm a new at this, don't clown me too hard)...does it have a built in microphone?

  • chesss sir

  • yea very nice, good work.
