I really want someone to explain to me what was so great about FFVII...... I played for quite awhile but I just got bored.... The story was not at all satisfying to me. Then there is FFX :) Which I loved every second of playing it or watching my brother play it... You become so attached to the characters, as if you actually know them... It has the perfect soundtrack... the perfect gameplay... and the perfect "story" :)
@0utbre4k I tend to agree. The things that made Final Fantasy 7 great were its breakthroughs in graphics, video game soundtrack, RPG gameplay, its development of very specific characters, and the fact that it broke RPGs into the mainstream in the west. In many ways FF7 isn't great because of what it is on its on but rather what it was to people at the time, a giant step forward for the genre. Objectively speaking I would agree that FFX is better in many ways, but people played FF7 years before.
@0utbre4k The key to FF7's popularity really is nostalgia. It was so strong and groundbreaking at the time that it's extremely hard to forget and thus is prone to being viewed as perhaps better than it actually is. Even still it does have a certain power to its narrative and if anything else I think it's the Final Fantasy game that could benefit the most from a modern remake. Both for fans and for Square Enix' shareholders.
@LogosSteve I disagree about the nostalgia. The key to FF7's success and the reason why it is better than the 10 imo is the feeling of freedom. 2 alternative characters, mini games the possibility to discover the world and secret places in the world, the background, the complexity of the story (even if 10's story is far more touching), the richness of every characters background and the coherency of the unniverse (you can really feel the difference between the pre and post Meteor apparition).
@WolfGhost97 You have a great point and you might be right. It was a very well designed RPG overall and it did have more open-ended gameplay elements than FFX. To me though since FFX was very comparable in quality and the fact that its story was more touching cement FFX as being my favorite.
@TheCreed20 Yeah, it would be awesome to see any and all of the Final Fantasies updates for the PS3, especially 7. But right now getting a good PC and playing them on this emulator is the best you can do.
@TheCreed20 Their recommended specs are an Intel Core 2 Duo @3.2Ghz or better (it only is coded to use 2 processors at the moment so you'd need a Quad to be that fast for similar results), Vista or 7, Nvidia Geforce 8800GT or better, and at least 1 Gig of Ram (2+ on Vista or 7). The processor is really the big requirement. If you're trying to make do with what you have then set the graphics plugin run in native PS2 resolution and turn on the recommended speed hacks, that's what I do.
@TheCreed20 yup, that's the international version... Also, the Int. version has 4 more abilities for weapon's; Magic distiller, power distiller, speed distiller and ability distiller (I think) =P
there's also some other additions but I've only ever played the IE so I don't the other's =P
@DarthPingu07 ... Dang, talk about your convenient coincidences, however it hasn't been announced if it's a port or actually will have graphics made from scratch.
@LogosSteve ... rumor is it's a total remake using the Luminous engine that Versus XIII will use or FFXIII's engine, character's will be rebuilt for better looking HD and decent lip synching but design's are to stay true to original (good because they ruined Yuna in X-2 lol), setting's are to be slightly modified but still instantly recognisable... battle system? turn based will stay... thank *insert expletive*
@LogosSteve ... this is still a rumor though but as long as Squenix doesn't put too much of their stamp on it and ruin it, I'll die happy haha
yep, massive coincedence, but I think people are being unfair to this game because it's being released before VII and therefore are putting it down. If VII was released first people will be fairer on X.
X is in it's own right, a truly amazing game. Voice acting etc maybe poor but it's beautifully put together and deserves more praise than put downs imo
@DarthPingu07 No it's not a rumor, it was officially announced at the Sony Tokyo Game Show press conference last month. But yeah, here's hoping it shapes up to kick some serious ass.
@DarthPingu07 Oh, right... Yeah it seems like it's going to be an HD port. It's funny I'd rather them try and redo it since I'd like them to actually do something right for a change.
@LogosSteve ... I would agree if it wasn't for Square-enix.
They've screwed up far too many times lately for me to trust them with a full makeover of my favorite game of all time lol... It's risky, FFX-2 was Enix's first FF and look how it turned out, they had the character's, setting's, gameplay, a background plot and musical score to work with that was tried and tested and they ruined it, the battle system and soundtrack was great but rest was awful. I couldn't live with an enix remake yet :P
Hey, this seems quite impressive :) I am running with high graphics settings too (1080p, 60 fps) but i can only use SSE2. Anyway even though I can run it at 60fps, it seems a touch slower than the original version.
A point of reference i use is when Tidus looks up then down again, and as shown in your video he correctly takes about 2 seconds whereas in mine he takes about 4 seconds.
So yeah it's quite wierd to have it running at 60 fps but about half speed in this intro.. any ideas?
@utubeisso1337 I think you might have some speed hacks on or some setting that causes the emulator to misrepresent your real time fps. If your emulator is actually running at full speed 60/59.94 FPS when rendering in 1080 with the default settings it should look exactly like this as far as I know. My computer isn't good enough to actually play this at full speed in real time but thanks to the video capture ability of the video plugin it doesn't have to to record it and play back in real time.
@Griffo569 Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I checked the media info on the flash vid YouTube displays and it reconverted it to an AVC High Profile 4.0 VBR 3.7 Mbit/s 30 FPS vid but the frame rate varies from 29 to 55 FPS. Interesting. Also YouTube reconverted the AAC audio down to 128 kbit/s VBR. Still not too bad.
@Link0ot There is currently no way to actually render FFX in 16:9 whether on a PS2, PS3, or PCSX2. The PS2 was made for 640x480 output and although it does support 16:9 it does this simply by cutting off the top and bottom of the 4x3 image thereby losing information. The emulator would have to expand the field of view internally which isn't currently an option. If you tell PCSX2 to do 16:9 it simply stretches the image. Keeping the correct aspect ratio is more important to me.
@Link0ot If I did it'd just have those black bars that Youtube already puts there to keep all their videos in a 16:9 window and it'd look exactly the same. Otherwise I'd be stretching the image and the perspective would be distorted. I'm not about to go in and cut off some of the top or bottom of all of the shots, people do that for conversion purposes for some movies and such but it's still just taking away information and messing with what the creators intended.

Unfortunately, YouTube doesn't support 60fps video. It's pretty irritating. Although this video was 60fps before upload, it's certainly not now.
