Also, these videos are simply his opinions and thoughts, as he says very often, so comparing a new product to something that he likes and can shoot well makes perfect sense. My apologies burn, you are absolutely correct I went yo a gun store today and both the cd and block 17 I held both had similar gaps between frame and slide. It just looks odd when zooming in. Thanks.
your sr9 doesnt seem to be properly on the rails. if you look closely you can even see the recoil spring. Unless ruger intentionaly left a gigantic gap there between the frame and slide. I am considering purchasing either a beretta px4 storm .40 or sr9 .40 and seeing that gigantic gap makes me much more inclined to choose the former. If you could please clarify on this matter i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your video reviews they are very informative!
@TDotts26 As far as I know if you hold an XD, Glock, or SR9 up to a light you'll be able to see light between the slide and frame on all of them.. it's normal.
@neurozero Your comparing apples to oranges dude, one is hammer fired and one is striker fired, one is made for a better carry situation, one is not. The P95 has poly slide rails, SR9's are steel. My P95 is a brick and hard to carry concealed, only has a 15 round mag as opposed to a 17, SR is lighter and way more narrow and easier to carry. SR9 has reversable backstrap, P95 does not. SR9 has great hand to bore ratio.
hmm...I wonder if you can post or e-mail me size dimensions of your hand palm...if we both are the same size your suggestions would be as gold and save me a ton of time when shopping for a new gun.
@Kylef7735 To go to war gun? Just Google what the world's best military and police units carry and you won't see a lot of 1911's and revolvers on the list. They've all gone aluminum and polymer frame guns. Why? Because they offer distinct advantages: light, reliable, corrosion resistant, modular, unobtrusive. Lot of people mistakenly believe Glock wins military and LE contracts ONLY because they're cheap. Not true. It is because it fills the gov't RFP requirements better than others.
@assoverteakettle If you would look at my comment, and the comment i was replying to, you will see that the guy who i was replying to stated that there were only 2 handguns he needed, a target pistol and a carry gun, and neither of those are good "Go to war" handguns.
What the heck were you trying to inform me of? (I cant tell, your writing is confusing)
@Kylef7735 Exactly. I was just chiming in on your question to that other fellow who was suggesting the "only two guns" anyone should ever want. As admirable firearms as they are, they are not what today's modern military and law enforcement would consider ideal. That's all I was pointing out. Commenting on his comment and chiming in. No hard feelings intended.
@1a2b3cdf3 I think the gun(s) one needs depends on a lot of things including what NutNFancy refers to as PHILOSOPHY OF USE. Most modern militaries and law enforcement agencies have dumped heavy all steel pistols in favor of aluminum and polymer framed pistols because they are lightweight to carry, impervious to corrosion, and reliable. I'm not a huge fan of Glock and polymer pistols but I would take it over a 1911 or revolver for defence. But for fun at the range; steel: 1911, revolvers, CZ!
I've got the same right-handed left-eye-dominant thing. I wonder how common that is. It works great for a bow, not too bad for a pistol, but kind of sucks for a long gun.
I like the thoroughness of Nutandfancy's reviews but I get a little tired of the Glock love fest. Reviews should be factory to factory comparisons in terms of ratings. Talking about after market options is okay but should be done to add color not "the Glock is better once you employ these three after market options.
@pitabread112 yeah, ive seen it on a glock 26 at a gun show, but that's about it. my glock 30 and my hk don't have it. neither does mt friend's m9 or my fathers p99 or his p229.
I am preparing to buy my first few handguns soon and am wondering if someone can answer a question I have. I am wondering if all .380s are illegal in Maryland. From what I saw online (midwesthuntersoutlet) MD is the only state that no .380s can be sold too. Not a single one?!?!
Anyway from what I could read on it, they'r referred to as "Saturday Night Specials" or a "junk guns" i.e cheap guns that are frequently used in crimes. I am guessing all the crime in Baltimore got this cal. banned...
@IndivisiblePrinciple - I was trying to find some laws against this specific .380 caliber and I couldn't find any.. I maybe wrong but I doubt your state would ban a specific caliber, I've never heard of such a thing but I could be wrong.. I so then purchase a 9mm.. The difference is a 9mm is 9x19 and (i think) a .380 is 9x17 that is in mm by the way.. If your state doesn't have .380 caliber banned i would consider a bersa thunder. google it if you dont know.
@mixwell1983 Hey, thank you for looking that up. Since posting my last comment I read a bit more and found out that there ISNT indeed a ban on the .380 caliber. It is just "junk guns", which happen to mostly be .380.
I did find one though that really looks awesome and is legal in MD, the Taurus 738. Now the only difficulty is that I also found out that .380 ammo cost almost the same as .45 cal !!!!
@IndivisiblePrinciple - Yah dude .380 ammo is quite expensive. If you're looking for a low cost gun the Ruger p95 is a great firearm or there is Glock 17, Springfield Armory XD, Beretta 92 which are some of the more popular choices.
What do you think is in the future of Ruger in the next two years? I really like this gun but the problem is that im only 19 so i have another two years till i am able to get a handgun and my concealed weapons permit.
The Glock has a longer barrel so I doubt the groups on the SR9 CAN be as tight unless the SR9 is made better over all. And while I appreciate your preaching safety, it would be consistent to keep your finger outside of the trigger guard while clearing a weapon :) We already know it was unloaded but always practice as if it WAS loaded right? :) And is the Ruger slide finish made of anything like Tenifer?
one thing about the glock is that the comfort zone on it for most people is realy high or realy low and for high grips it good but for the low grips it sit the sights and barrel to high. personaly i prefer the ruger p90 ( thats a pistol confusing i know) a higher caliber but reletivily the same gun so i going with ruger!!!
First of all, awesome review. Your other reviews are also very thorough. and this really answered all the questions I had. I'm not yet 21, so i don't have the ability to own a handgun, but i have fired plenty and I am taking advantage of this waiting time to study up and find out what i want and from everything I have read and with my experience with Ruger, it's definitely between the Glock 17 and the SR9. Thanks.
I've got to be honest, I don't feel like you fired enough rounds with the Ruger to determine its reliability or ruggedness - especially considering the poor reputation of Ruger automatics.
@bgomusicco glocks are good for one thing, whacking someone (murder at close range) and throwing it away. or possibly using it as a small billy club or sucker chucking it at some asshole
I was alomst sold on the sr9, but the only thing i didnt like was the fact that it was so thin, i think its to thin, but here in california we cant carry guns in our poket, wich is stupid, for me though a gun being thin is not that important. anyway later nutn good review as allways.
I used to shoot like you do with my index finger up on the front of the trigger guard, it's how my dad taught me, but I just found my finger slipping right of with every shot. Anything from a .380 to a .44 magnum, slips off every time.
oh man when you have them side to side and have them looking from the top view of the chamber, that ruger looks really handsome rather then the square looking glock, cause then again thats all your looking at when your shooting anyhow, nice vid!
re : mag slippage and round in battery, hammer vs striker issue> i have early para p 14 no round in battery is an issue because of over sized magazine release(i supose for operators gloved hands in tactical situations) but any close to body carry release kicks mag loose(very embarassing when it hits ground in felony warrant serving activities related to bail recovery)nice gun otherwise but went to xd45 service model so far so good, also less refires with strikers trigger wt.but j. browning rocks
I think that if you would have used a 1911 as a gun to compare it to, it would have made more sense. Sense the glock doesn't have a hammer safety the 1911 would have been a better comparison. I know the cap isn't anything like the ruger but still I think that a 1911 shooter would have gotten more out of the vid then a glock shooter. All in all great vid man . But I think that a 1911 shooter would be able to pick up this sweet pistol and feel more comfortable picking this pistol then a glock.
I love both these guns, and they are both faster on the draw....But I carry a Beretta px4 storm because I feel safer with a round in the barrel having the safety ( decocker on) with the plate between the hammer and firing pin...I don't feel the same with the trigger safety and no external hammer. I just take the safety off when I see a situation that might go bad ahead of time. Do most carry with a round chambered in a Glock or a Smith ?
@ JessineHein- what's it to you? You don't live here, so our guns don't affect you in any way. I think unlimited speed limits on freeways are a bad idea but I don't care if Germany wants to do that, because it DOESN'T affect me. SO I DON'T CARE. Funny though that you think gun ownership is "fucked up" yet you are intrigued enough to scope out gun videos. Your jealousy is understandable. I'd be pissed off too if I lived in a country that produced so many nice things that I could never own.
@ryanvertz20 Yep, fucks like him are a dime a dozen. Sig, H & K, Walther, Mauser are all quality German guns in which that poor bastard will never get to shoot, sucks to be him but don't take it out on us. That's really my only point.
@ryanvertz20 I was referring to JessineHein's comment and people like him that look at gun vidoes and make stupid and/or jealous comments and try to bastardize our gun laws and gun ownership rights in the US.
@ragenbert Thanks man. People like him really piss me off. Too bad there are thousands just like him. Generally they are almost always Europeans who are just butt-hurt that they can't own guns like we can. But of course the beat goes on and as I type this I'm sure some other Euro-Twat is making an anti-gun, anti-US comment. (PS: Not all Europeans are twats, just those who make jealous or ill-informed remarks.) There are plenty of American anti-gun twats as well.
@BaddieAss Actually rapists and murderers are responsible for their crimes, not guns. Law abiding citizens need to take responsibility for their own safety through whatever means they feel are necessary. Police exists primarily to to pick up the pieces and file reports.
@cbetancourt Only way it's gonna work is if EVERYONE gets a gun and trains with it. Guns should be a mandatory requirement for education. If little shit head ghetto kids learned to respect guns at a young age and treat them safetly then guess what, we woudln't have 90% of the crime we have today. Either everyone arms themselves or it just doesn't work.
Seeing how that is impossible what do you say we all turn in our guns. The government will protect us I swear ^_-
@BaddieAss thugs buy them on the streets, we buy them in stores or privately, then register them, legally. as far as rape? most men dont need any weapon but themselves to rape a woman you dummy, what we need is to get more responsible women armed, so some rapists can get shot. peace.
Maybe you should look up the crime rates in England and Australia then... they took away all the guns from the law abiding citizens and it's like the ghetto of New Orleans in both those countries. Gun control doesn't work, end of story.
Excuse me? Have you been to Australia? We are allowed to have a different array of weapons TO AN EXTENT. We are not allowed fully-automatic weapons. As such, we have a much lower crime rate than the US. I'm not picking on the US, I'm just telling you to get your facts right before you make a comment like that again.
@XxXTommo69 I was under the impression that you had to have a hunting license of some sort, and then you could only get bolt action, pump action, etc. I had heard that semi-automatic weapons and handguns were banned in Australia. Maybe I was wrong, or my source was bad. But for the record, full auto weapons aren't legal for the average citizen to carry here either. Sorry for the mix up.
@XxXTommo69 No you did not. You said you are allowed a different array of weapons to an extent that excludes full-automatic weapons. Then you said they were thinking of banning semi-autos but didn't. No where did you specify as to whether you were talking about handguns or not. In fact, I hate to be a dick about it, but I have multiple sources stating that MOST semi-autos were banned, including .22's and shotguns. Not only that, but firearms are not allowed to be used in a defensive manner.
@XxXTommo69 And don't sit here and tell me the crime rate in Australia is lower than the crime rate in the U.S. because of gun laws. Australia had lower crime rates before they passed those laws then they do now. Maybe some semi-auto's are legal, but that doesn't change the facts. Restrictive gun laws are bad. Period.
@JessineHein u know wat? if u think thats true stay away from america and u can go screw urself cause its fine to protect ourselves. vitenam and all those countrys cant even defend theresevles-we had to do it. Who u think is winnin wars around here?
@JessineHein by the way, germany sucks ass. and you are just a kid so you wouldnt know shit. just because guns are legal doesnt mean anyone is allowed to carry them wherever they want. some states you can carry one in a holster or concealed if you have a license. but alot of place you arent allowed to carry handguns on you. only in your home for protection and in your car not loaded.
@JessineHein If you really want to be shocked go google "German concentration camps". Talk about crazy!!! Really fucked up with all that genocide.....
I jsut bought a Kimber Custom 2 stainless, and now really want a 9mm for training purposes that does not drive me bankrupt with the price of ammo. I really love this gun. Plus the safety is big for me, I need that 199 type of manual safety. Im a bit torn cause I do like the simplicity of the Glock, but the SR9 has it all for under 4 shekels.
Very nice review. I've been shopping for a good solid 9mm and right now the SR9 is winning for my price range. I do want to mention that other reviews that got a chance to put more rounds (1000+) say that the SR9's trigger does lighten up a bit as you break it in making it more comparable to the glock. Not to step on your toes nutnfancy, just adding some more info.
I love Ruger and Glock... The Glock slide release was designed close for ease of holstered pistol removal and Glock wants you to actually pull the slide back for positive engagement of the first round.
man u ride glocks dick so hard!

there are only 2 handguns in the world that you need to own
# 1 any good quality modern 1911 in 45apc or super .38(for fun)
#2 a S&W 340 pd (personal carry)

@1a2b3cdf3 What about a go to war gun?
Kylef7735 1 year ago
@Kylef7735 To go to war gun? Just Google what the world's best military and police units carry and you won't see a lot of 1911's and revolvers on the list. They've all gone aluminum and polymer frame guns. Why? Because they offer distinct advantages: light, reliable, corrosion resistant, modular, unobtrusive. Lot of people mistakenly believe Glock wins military and LE contracts ONLY because they're cheap. Not true. It is because it fills the gov't RFP requirements better than others.
assoverteakettle 1 year ago
@assoverteakettle If you would look at my comment, and the comment i was replying to, you will see that the guy who i was replying to stated that there were only 2 handguns he needed, a target pistol and a carry gun, and neither of those are good "Go to war" handguns.
What the heck were you trying to inform me of? (I cant tell, your writing is confusing)
Kylef7735 1 year ago
@Kylef7735 Exactly. I was just chiming in on your question to that other fellow who was suggesting the "only two guns" anyone should ever want. As admirable firearms as they are, they are not what today's modern military and law enforcement would consider ideal. That's all I was pointing out. Commenting on his comment and chiming in. No hard feelings intended.
assoverteakettle 1 year ago
@assoverteakettle Ohh, ok
Yea, hes got a gaping hole in his handgun repoitoir.
Kylef7735 1 year ago
@1a2b3cdf3 I think the gun(s) one needs depends on a lot of things including what NutNFancy refers to as PHILOSOPHY OF USE. Most modern militaries and law enforcement agencies have dumped heavy all steel pistols in favor of aluminum and polymer framed pistols because they are lightweight to carry, impervious to corrosion, and reliable. I'm not a huge fan of Glock and polymer pistols but I would take it over a 1911 or revolver for defence. But for fun at the range; steel: 1911, revolvers, CZ!
assoverteakettle 1 year ago
I've got the same right-handed left-eye-dominant thing. I wonder how common that is. It works great for a bow, not too bad for a pistol, but kind of sucks for a long gun.

I like the thoroughness of Nutandfancy's reviews but I get a little tired of the Glock love fest. Reviews should be factory to factory comparisons in terms of ratings. Talking about after market options is okay but should be done to add color not "the Glock is better once you employ these three after market options.

I am guessing all the crime in Baltimore got this cal. banned...
IndivisiblePrinciple 1 year ago
@IndivisiblePrinciple - I was trying to find some laws against this specific .380 caliber and I couldn't find any.. I maybe wrong but I doubt your state would ban a specific caliber, I've never heard of such a thing but I could be wrong.. I so then purchase a 9mm.. The difference is a 9mm is 9x19 and (i think) a .380 is 9x17 that is in mm by the way.. If your state doesn't have .380 caliber banned i would consider a bersa thunder. google it if you dont know.
mixwell1983 1 year ago
@mixwell1983 Hey, thank you for looking that up. Since posting my last comment I read a bit more and found out that there ISNT indeed a ban on the .380 caliber. It is just "junk guns", which happen to mostly be .380.
I did find one though that really looks awesome and is legal in MD, the Taurus 738. Now the only difficulty is that I also found out that .380 ammo cost almost the same as .45 cal !!!!
So the 9mm it is...
IndivisiblePrinciple 1 year ago
@IndivisiblePrinciple - Yah dude .380 ammo is quite expensive. If you're looking for a low cost gun the Ruger p95 is a great firearm or there is Glock 17, Springfield Armory XD, Beretta 92 which are some of the more popular choices.
mixwell1983 1 year ago
What do you think is in the future of Ruger in the next two years? I really like this gun but the problem is that im only 19 so i have another two years till i am able to get a handgun and my concealed weapons permit.
snarejaguar1 1 year ago
The Glock has a longer barrel so I doubt the groups on the SR9 CAN be as tight unless the SR9 is made better over all. And while I appreciate your preaching safety, it would be consistent to keep your finger outside of the trigger guard while clearing a weapon :) We already know it was unloaded but always practice as if it WAS loaded right? :) And is the Ruger slide finish made of anything like Tenifer?

First of all, awesome review. Your other reviews are also very thorough. and this really answered all the questions I had. I'm not yet 21, so i don't have the ability to own a handgun, but i have fired plenty and I am taking advantage of this waiting time to study up and find out what i want and from everything I have read and with my experience with Ruger, it's definitely between the Glock 17 and the SR9. Thanks.
MonkeyWrench1988 1 year ago
I've got to be honest, I don't feel like you fired enough rounds with the Ruger to determine its reliability or ruggedness - especially considering the poor reputation of Ruger automatics.

nodillinger 1 year ago

Generally they are almost always Europeans who are just butt-hurt that they can't own guns like we can. But of course the beat goes on and as I type this I'm sure some other Euro-Twat is making an anti-gun, anti-US comment. (PS: Not all Europeans are twats, just those who make jealous or ill-informed remarks.) There are plenty of American anti-gun twats as well.
riolindasucks 1 year ago
@riolindasucks hahahah well said. but the 2nd amendment is responsible for rape and murder in the US :(
Bad guys get guns the same way us legitmate owners do. We create the demand. They pick up the leftovers.
BaddieAss 1 year ago
@BaddieAss Actually rapists and murderers are responsible for their crimes, not guns. Law abiding citizens need to take responsibility for their own safety through whatever means they feel are necessary. Police exists primarily to to pick up the pieces and file reports.
cbetancourt 1 year ago
@cbetancourt Only way it's gonna work is if EVERYONE gets a gun and trains with it. Guns should be a mandatory requirement for education. If little shit head ghetto kids learned to respect guns at a young age and treat them safetly then guess what, we woudln't have 90% of the crime we have today. Either everyone arms themselves or it just doesn't work.
Seeing how that is impossible what do you say we all turn in our guns. The government will protect us I swear ^_-
BaddieAss 1 year ago
@BaddieAss thugs buy them on the streets, we buy them in stores or privately, then register them, legally. as far as rape? most men dont need any weapon but themselves to rape a woman you dummy, what we need is to get more responsible women armed, so some rapists can get shot. peace.
mkooms01 11 months ago
Maybe you should look up the crime rates in England and Australia then... they took away all the guns from the law abiding citizens and it's like the ghetto of New Orleans in both those countries. Gun control doesn't work, end of story.
glramer2007 1 year ago 8
@glramer2007
Excuse me? Have you been to Australia? We are allowed to have a different array of weapons TO AN EXTENT. We are not allowed fully-automatic weapons. As such, we have a much lower crime rate than the US. I'm not picking on the US, I'm just telling you to get your facts right before you make a comment like that again.
XxXTommo69 1 year ago
@XxXTommo69 I was under the impression that you had to have a hunting license of some sort, and then you could only get bolt action, pump action, etc. I had heard that semi-automatic weapons and handguns were banned in Australia. Maybe I was wrong, or my source was bad. But for the record, full auto weapons aren't legal for the average citizen to carry here either. Sorry for the mix up.
glramer2007 1 year ago
They were thinking of banning semi-autos, but they didn't. I can understand your confusion.
XxXTommo69 1 year ago
Are handguns banned there?
glramer2007 1 year ago
I just said they're not banned here. The only handguns that ARE banned here are .50 Calibers.
XxXTommo69 1 year ago
@XxXTommo69 No you did not. You said you are allowed a different array of weapons to an extent that excludes full-automatic weapons. Then you said they were thinking of banning semi-autos but didn't. No where did you specify as to whether you were talking about handguns or not. In fact, I hate to be a dick about it, but I have multiple sources stating that MOST semi-autos were banned, including .22's and shotguns. Not only that, but firearms are not allowed to be used in a defensive manner.
glramer2007 1 year ago
@XxXTommo69 And don't sit here and tell me the crime rate in Australia is lower than the crime rate in the U.S. because of gun laws. Australia had lower crime rates before they passed those laws then they do now. Maybe some semi-auto's are legal, but that doesn't change the facts. Restrictive gun laws are bad. Period.

Very nice review. I've been shopping for a good solid 9mm and right now the SR9 is winning for my price range.
