  • plz make a tutorial

  • so you made this FOR chuck or did you copy it?

  • @mistermaster7492 I made it for the episode. i also did whatever episode had that pig with the explosion behind it..

  • @dandeentremont then i am officially a fan of your work :D

  • what program are you using

  • Hello, are you using only deformers to animate the legs? I'm quite interested by your technics. Thank you for the answer :)

  • @OfficialEthern1ty For the close ups, it was a rig that another artist made using long IK chains. For the far away shots, I made an odd right that's difficult to explain. The legs were basically segmented tubes. At each segment (4 per leg), I placed a bone to control it. This gives it a lot of freedom in movement, but doesn't prevent stretching, so you have to be careful when animating. I rigged it like this to work around the fact that Lightwave doesn't have satisfactory Spline Deformers.

  • @dandeentremont Thank you for your response, I animated the same9 for a special neck of one of my character, but I decided to use Spline IK but the animation is quite painful as the cluster attached to my curve move to far away...

By the way, Awesome work, I really like your work :) Quite enjoyable to see.

  • Dear Santa...

  • THATS NOT A SPIDER!!! it has 6 legs

  • @TheStopmotion1423 It lost 2 of its legs in 'nam. Such a pointless war...

  • Incridible!

  • which animation softwar did you use?

  • @FreakeSport Lightwave

  • @dandeentremont thanks mate :)

  • haha, chuck ;D

  • Why do people all put fake and gay, dude you have a talent for editing mate x keep up the animations your the future of Disney animations!

  • fake and gayer

  • CHUCK! :)

  • lol somebody has been watching chuck :P

  • It's an amputee spider robot; it has only six legs.

  • What was used for tracking? Boujou..? Syntheyes?

  • @Avian98X Boujou. it was a free moving camera.

  • @dandeentremont Hey I have a Boujou question for you. I've tried using it with Max and After Effects countless times but I can never export a good camera. In Boujou, the tracking looks great, the 3D test objects look perfect, but as soon as I export it, the camera lags behind the video or is off a little bit here and there so it ruins my animations because the objects just shake around unrealistically. What could I be doing wrong? I've tried countless times.

  • @iSOBigD If I had to guess, I would say that you should offset your image sequence in Max by one frame. Boujou by default tells the sequence to start at frame 1. Perhaps it is starting on frame 0 in max, creating that lag.

  • @dandeentremont I've tried that in Max and I tried editing the script and setting the start frame to 0. It's not only offset by a frame, the camera just shakes badly or lags behind then catches up again, both in AFX and Max. In Max, I also always get a loading error and I need to remove the part of the script where it sets your video as the scene background in order to make it work. I've used Max 9, 2010 and 2011 and at least 2 verions of Boujou...

  • @dandeentremont I just don't get why I'm not getting the same exact camera movement in Max and AFX as I am in Boujou. Am I the only one with this problem?

  • @iSOBigD This is a pretty common issue. If the camera looks good in boujou, you probably only need to shift the image sequence start time in Max or AE.

  • How the heck did you learn to do this?

I'm pretty good at 2.5D video stuff like After Effects, but I've just started learning 3ds max.

I'm sure you're in some college or out of it, if not it sure looks that way.

  • The rendering is excellent. Very realistic! Any insight into the rigging you care to share? (fellow LW user)

  • @grayvickfilms The rig for the close up "wall crawling" shots was done by my coworker, Derek Serra. The legs were basically long IK chains. For the first shot, I made my own setup, which is a little difficult to explain. Each leg was a sub-patched "tube." At each segment on the legs, I placed a bone to control it. This enabled a great degree of animating freedom, but I had to be extra careful not to stretch the legs unrealistically far. My goal was to get sort of a spline rig.

  • how do you animate?

  • Now THAT, looks realistic.

  • definitely Chuck, i wonder if he made it for their tv series?

  • Minority report!

  • volcoff? Isn't that from Chuck?

  • @TheZB17 description

  • that's so Cool ! again .my friend...^_____^ How r u ? (สบายดีมั้ย) อิ_____อิ

  • @Aumfreaky I'm doing great :) Just been working mostly. We also got a new house. I wish I had more time for personal projects because I have tons of ideas!

  • Super cool! I very nicely done and I think it looks great!

but.... doesn't a spider have eight legs??

    ;)

  • Chuck?

  • I wish i could do that, all i can do is be shit on Call of duty :/

  • Cool story Bro.

  • can i ask ow did you put a logo to replace your youtube name

  • @facebookidiot You have to become a youtube partner to make the little logo thing.

  • @dandeentremont Is this from a movie? Not the animation, but I seen the spider robot somewhere in a movie about a the FBI or something with that.

  • @MegaGhidorah Minority report

  • @pimroes Thanks.

  • That's beyond cool! What render passes did you use if you don't mind me asking? :) I'd love to learn from professionals like you!

  • @Attiladesigner22 Nothing special. I used:

-Beauty Pass (textured spider with all lights and radiosity)

-Shadows cast by spider on floor

-Reflections "cast" by spider on floor

-Incidence Angle pass (for boosting or reducing reflections and color on the edges)

-Ambient Occlusion for where the spider makes contact with the floor

-Motion Vectors for adding motion blur in comp

  • Volkoff Industries XD

  • with what program do you make this??

  • @markmodder Lightwave for 3d, Boujou for camera tracking and Fusion for compositing.

  • @dandeentremont thanks for respons!

  • Heyyy, thats a clip from Chuck!

  • ROFL, this is from Chuck :O

  • @Nerdsausage He made this animation for Chuck

  • ok- this is proof enough that the water vid is fake :/

  • Ha that was cool stuff! I knew that wall at the end was cg! No way you'll be able to track that spider to walk up that smooth wall! Well, I guess there's ways now with planar tracking or just painting over tracker markers, but I still knew it was a fake!

  • @ajfrank28 Actually, the wall was real and the track turned out surprisingly well. I guess there were enough bumps and dimples on it to make a decent track.

  • @dandeentremont really? Ha, had me fooled!

  • I love the description xD Domo Arigato Spider Roboto

  • Oh, COME ON! I can't even get a fucking penguin to walk!

  • @ancientshogun Personally, I'd find a talking penguin more difficult to do.

  • @dandeentremont Wow, I'm a moron who doesn't read things thoroughly.

  • Is this the robot off of spy kids? Lol

  • Your the man. first i find out about the water trick and now you did work for chuck? the water trick made my friends look dumb

  • Can you make tutorial how you do this transformers

  • Spider Man didn't have 8 legs.

  • Amazing!

  • That is awesome, brilliant CGI. Excellent work of art in computer generated imagery.

  • btw, you're awesome.

  • How did you make the shadows and reflectives?

  • that was no spider a spider had 8 legs and this had 6 :D

  • I read that Chuck might not come back back for a 5th season. =(

  • What program is that?

  • I never thought anything remotely arachnid could be cute. But in an odd way that robot kinda is. <3
