If I would fail a drug test (at my job) for , say, Vicodin(also a schedule 3 CS)- I'd be fired; my pharmacy license would be suspended; my employer would contact local law enforcement who would obtain warrants to search my home, car and person - if any CS was found I'd be arrested for possesion of a controlled substance & possibly go to jail. These guys get a 4 game suspension. Wow!! No they don't get any special treatment.
the thing that pisses me off as a pharmacist is the MAIN factor that everyone seems to overlook in these "athletes caught on positive hgh, anabolic steroid, etc... drug tests" scenarios; all these drugs are schedule III controlled substances as per the 1970 Controlled Substance Act. I realize they aren't licensed but they are professionals and should be held to higher standard, especially given their exposure. I agree the war on drugs is ridiculous, but this has nothing to do with that; this has to do with certain professionals obtaining & using legal but controlled drugs, illegally, to gain an unfair and unethical advantage. I can't overlook that and say "that's just how it is" especially seeing how an 18 Y.o caught with 1 joint gets his/her life ruined and these (con't)

@markarich159 multi-millionaire 'roid heads continue to get away with this behavior with only a slap on the wrist from the NFL, who should be working with LE to take a much harder line. There is, essentially, something really wrong with this situation & these players should face the music just like the other thousands of non-violent drug offenders doing time(either incarcerated or on probation/parole). But anyway, I've got to get back to work, it's been fun. By the way - Go Eagles!!!!

If I would fail a drug test (at my job) for , say, Vicodin(also a schedule 3 CS)- I'd be fired; my pharmacy license would be suspended; my employer would contact local law enforcement who would obtain warrants to search my home, car and person - if any CS was found I'd be arrested for possesion of a controlled substance & possibly go to jail. These guys get a 4 game suspension. Wow!! No they don't get any special treatment.

the thing that pisses me off as a pharmacist is the MAIN factor that everyone seems to overlook in these "athletes caught on positive hgh, anabolic steroid, etc... drug tests" scenarios; all these drugs are schedule III controlled substances as per the 1970 Controlled Substance Act. Anybody else would be fired, lose our professional status and charged criminally. I guess NFL, MLB, etc... players don't have to meet the same standards/consequences to which the rest of us slugs are subject.

@goofy775 As I said in my 1st post, Pharmacy. And players caught certainly don't face the music as the rest of us. I've not heard of one player caught with or on steroids that EVER was arrested for possesion or distribution of a controlled substance. Nor have I heard of any law enforcement agency ever securing a search warrant for said players(s) once a failed drug test was made public(which is certainly probable cause to assume possesion and/or distribution) of a controlled substance.

@markarich159 i only saw your very top post... players aren't going to be arrested because the drug tests are done my their individual regulating bodies.. not by law enforcement etc.. while it may give probable cause for possession.. it isn't enough for any law enforcement agency to act upon it. The risk is too great for them.. if the tests were done in a police station then it would be different.

@goofy775 Not true, the example I gave in my last post(as to what would happen to me in the same situation) happens to most licensed professionals(just not professional athletes). It's the NFL's, NBA's, MLB's... decision to NOT appropriately bring in law enforcement in these situations(which they certainly could and should). And this decison by the NFL, etc..(and the licensed physicians they employ) sets a horrendously BAD example & places the NFL physicians in a conflict of interest (con't)

@markarich159 (con't) and a very precarious position in which they serve two masters with two diametrically opposing sets of standards; #1 Their employer(the NFL) who, apparently, only cares about keeping players(of any moral, ethical stripe) on the field to make $ and #2 the oath they took as physicians to do no harm and follow ALL applicable Medical/Pharmacy laws at the local, State and Federal level.

But point still stands.. if they were legitimately caught by law enforcement in possession they would be arrested.. they most likely would beat the charges(money beats all).. but they aren't going to lose a licence etc.. you don't need a licence to be an athlete :P
