I fly at this club, from what I understood the guy who was doing the flyby did pay for the damage costs, although I heard he initially did not want to.... I've also heard the guy is a total jackass and refused to pay for damages from similar instances
....a few weeks later the pilot of the Logo 600 ploughed his brand new rebuilt 600 into a tree on a test flight. It looked like the tree chomped on the heli and spit out the wreckage. Kinda felt bad ...it was so nice and shiny and new .....
I thought a simple "follow the circuit" rule would apply. It does at my heli club. or we call low pass right to left or vice versa. Looked like no communication between pilots and they should have been standing side by side.
where was the yellow helis spotter on that one. you have to think about that befor you just go and blame the pilot i mean yea he made a careless mistake but the spotter could have told him there was some one flying. right?
I have seen a few collisions in my time, but I've never seen one where someone was so clearly being careless and dangerous. The yellow heli is at fault and I'm not sure how you can argue that. He did a high-speed low pass into another flight box with no idea what was in front of his bird. What if a person had been standing there?! This is careless behavior, and could have resulted in an injury. If he's not banned, he's certainly going to be "unwelcome" there. It almost looks deliberate.

Boohoo, this is hobby and a mid air is the same as smashing into the ground. Do you ask for reimbursement from the ground? C'mon its a gamble when you put your machine in the air, if its too much to handle a crash then don't fly it.
i would agree if it was just two helis that met at the edges of there flight box, but when you intentionally fly over a handful of flight boxes its more then just the price to play the game.
Eh, not the same as hitting the ground. In this video the guy doing the hitting was well out of bounds in both flying space boundries and respect and sportmanship as well as flying safe. That could have just as well been somebodys head he hit like that.
So how in the Hell can you compare sentient actions of a person to the inert,non-living, stationary..........ground??
Yeah the guy flying the 500 was out of line However the idea of a spotter is to watch the other heli's/planes to inform the person he is spotting for , not watching his pilot fly...If the spotter was doing what he was supposed to be doing maybe this would not have happened... My .02
It's at times like this that you find out what people are made of. Soooo, did the guy who did the low, high speed pass in front of the other pilot's flight station take responsibility and offer to pay the damages and write a check?
If I was hovering my heli, and some cowboy swooped down at high speed and destroyed it right before my eyes like that I think i'd be forced to kill him
So what happens in this case? Does the guy at fault end up paying for the other guys heli...or is a simple aplogy suppose to make up for the loss of the guys heli???
In theory you buy your ticket and you take your chances.
In practice heli events have 100 foot boxes. Pilots don't fly into another pilot's box. If you want high speed passes, you do it out past everyone's flying box, in free for all territory.
Financial enforcement against blatant idiotic behavior is difficult as your dealing with the type of person that does this type of stuff.
What a reckless dickhead

I hope that pilot walked up to the other pilot with his wallet open and offered to re-build!

spotters where not required until after this incident.
duck9191 2 years ago
Even then, spotters can not anticipate bone head decisons on the part of the pilot.
When your riding in a car, you cant anticipate the driver jumping over a barrier instead of going around like a sane person might do..

guy flying the yellow heli is at fault, he flew into another pilots flight zone..

Looks like the situation is being handled ok. Thread is on RunRyder if you want to read.

Very stupid ideal here, for nobody is controlling the ground in your scenario.
Very few crashes in full scale and RC involve mid-air collisons but most always involve the ground/water. So much for your theory.

That made no sense whatsoever. I want to mid air that comment.
